Some four months after returning from lockdown we now prepare for the new 2021/22 season in the hope that we will complete the season. Fingers crossed!
The last 18 months has been a challenge for everyone including all grassroots clubs although during this period we have undoubtedly seen the positives, both from a physical and mental perspective, that sport can bring to communities and the value of being part of a grassroots community club.
Our children and adults were delighted to be able to resume football in April with most completing their league games by the end of June during an extended season. The club were also delighted to see a number of our teams win leagues and gain promotion.
The club took the decision, having missed January-March due to lockdown, that all of our teams would have the opportunity to continue training throughout the summer at our home in Stoneham Lane all on 4g astro as we have decided to give the new grass pitches a rest until late August. Nearly all of our teams have continued training once or twice a week during the summer and are now well into friendly games being arranged.
During this period we were able to hold our first ever summer tournament at our new £10m facility during the weekend of July 3/4 hosting 5000 plus people over the weekend . Some achievement !
The tournament was the first in the local area for some two years due to covid and we had to turn over 80 teams away such was the demand. The tournament including all age groups for both boys and girls was a great success and we very much look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
The club would like to finish with a big thank you to all of our volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the last few months, and continue to do so, to ensure that the “show stays on the road” and that young children can again enjoy the huge benefits of organised sport.
We all look forward to the new season with renewed vigour and enthusiasm.
