Girls round up

Saturday

A superb day for female football at AFC Stoneham with many great victories!

We have shown the results of our older teams below with our U16 Girls beating Eastleigh 7-1 and our U14 Eagles defeating Stubbington 3-1 to both reach the semi finals of the Hampshire Cup.

The Purps also beat Eastleigh at U14 level with our Lionesses winning 2-0 whilst our U18s defeated Romsey 5-0 both in league matches.

We have highlighted two other great games from Saturday which illustrate yet again the huge progress the club is making around girls football.

U11 Girls

AFC Stoneham Tornadoes 3

AFC Stoneham Pumas 2

WOW!! SUPER proud of both sets of girls is an understatement today…

A Stoneham derby today Tornadoes V Pumas…

AFC Stoneham is fortunate to have two girls teams both playing top division football for their age and both sets of girls dedicated to the game putting in 110%…

The game was a mixture of halves, some missed opportunities, great tackles, superb passing, banging shots and to top it off great sportsgirlship afterwards with high fives and fist pumps

Superb parent interaction and coaching cuddles afterwards

Best wishes to both teams next week against different opponents!

Club view:

We have received many reports on the above game all wishing to let us know how super proud we as a club should be of both teams.

This was a wonderful game with exemplary behaviour from every player, manager, coach and parents.

Everyone involved brought huge credit to our club. Thank you .

U13 Girls

Home to Winchester City who sit top of the league. A game we had to win to stand any chance of pushing for the Div 3 title….

A very evenly matched first half saw both teams giving everything. Not many chances on offer. With 25 minutes on the clock Winchester broke free off the left and fired a low shot past Flo to make it 0-1. The girls took a while to recover, when a shot hit a high Winchester hand in the box and we won a penalty. Cherice Johnson stepped up, and stroked it home in the bottom corner! 1-1… all to play for. The half finished that way.

We asked the girls for an extra 10-15% in the second half, my word they gave it…. the game was end to end and all of a sudden very open. Iris Wakely, through on goal… hit the post! Goal mouth scramble, shot block, shot block…. how have we not scored?!!

Then Winchester won a free kick on the edge of the box, they struck it in the top corner…. BUT super Florence Page leaped high to deny a certain goal! Outstanding.

End to end, when Iris has laid Lillie Banks through 1 on 1… could she…. ?? ….. Go on Lillie…. The crowd held their breath ….. 2-1!!!!! Limbs everywhere in the sideline!!!

But then backs against the wall, under pressure defending for our lives and the ref has given a penalty to Winchester for handball…. But the girl has put it wide! Still 2-1….

Corner after corner for Winchester… we stood firm… and there was the final whistle!

FT AFC Stoneham 2-1 Winchester City

11 unbeaten, we march on… up the Purps

Club view:

Our U13 girls only started playing football in the summer and have been formed into a super team now enjoying great success with a manager ,Steve, who should undoubtedly be a sports reporter with his wonderful match reports !

As a new team the U13 girls epitomise what our club is trying to achieve with girls football .Fantastic!

A huge well done to all of our girls teams on yesterday's superb set of results.
