U8 Girls

Our two new U8 Girls teams played a friendly for their first ever game

Both teams were brilliant although very warm in those temperatures!!

Well done girls!!

AFC Stoneham Tigers U8’s:

After missing a few chances to take the lead ourselves, we conceded a couple of quick goals which swung the game millbrooks way, who were clinical from then on. We Always take the positives but also plenty to practice on in training. Roll on next week to try put it right.

MOTM: Brooklyn Helm: covered every bit of grass today and great organisation input on the pitch.

AFC Hiltingbury Hurricanes U8 v AFC Stoneham U8 Jaguars

The Jaguars had a cautious start to the match until, out of nowhere, Walter scored an absolute screamer from a free-kick. At the back, Samuel and Walter were putting in the tackles and winning the ball back to allow Cooper and Lucas to go on weaving runs. Harry, in goal, was called upon for this quarter, to make a couple of solid clearances. Towards the end of the quarter, Lucas made an intricate run and took a powerful shot, but it was saved by the Hiltingbury keeper.

In the second quarter, Samuel continued to make crunch tackles in defence – winning the ball with grit from the attacking side. Freddie had a powerful shot saved by the opposition’s keeper and then Archie got a taste of the action, taking aim at the Hiltingbury goal. Soon after, Samuel smashed top bins . At this point, the Jaguars were coming under a bit of pressure. A free-kick was given away, but was calmly cleared away by the Jaguar’s defence. Hiltingbury came back and were awarded a penalty kick after a big tackle at the top of the box. Joseph, in goal, responded with a confident save and then managed to sweep away the rebound shot. At the end of the quarter, Walter had a couple of strikes at goal in quick succession.

At the start of the third quarter, Harry soon got in on the action striking just wide of the post. Samuel showed his resilience once again when attacking and being surrounded by opposition. Lucas was in goal this half and was called into action making an important save 1 on 1 with the Hiltingbury forward. Cooper struck a beautiful corner and the resulting strike went just wide of the post.

The final quarter started with the Jaguars continuing where they had left off, this time with Freddie going on darting runs toward the goal. The first one of the half resulted in a Jaguars’ corner which allowed Harry to smash the ball just wide into the side netting. Some great build-up play between Harry, Freddie and Walter resulted in Archie scoring an absolute belter. Freddie made the most of an error and got the Jaguar’s fourth. Some great work in defence towards the end by Archie and Freddie nearly got another, but it wasn’t to be. Well done Jags on another great team performance!

AFC Stoneham Panthers U8 Report

Well done today boys.

Thought the passing and team work is getting better each week. You are starting to look up and slowly you are making the right choices when to pass and when to shoot. Some of the goals was unbelievable.

But my man of the match went to Jacob, he kept us in the match when it was 0-0 with some important saves. Well done Jacob. Well done all of you. Special mentions to Evan with 3 magic moments, Henry 2 moments with Matthew, Seth and Edison with 1 each. A thorough team performance.

So proud of you all.

U9 Panthers

Another sunny Sunday (with some showers) at Stoneham saw lots of goals in todays match. �It was a hat trick of hat tricks! �Super Luca scored 3 goals in the 1st quarter, adding a 4th in the last quarter while Cooper and Vinnie both scored hat tricks too! Vinnie even scored from the half way line and Cooper great shots from distance. �Billy and Oscar added to the score sheet with 2 each plus 1 from Manny. �Freddie was brilliant out wide, finding passes, winning tackles and clearing off the line. Fraser played high up the pitch, making some fast runs back and saves. �The Panthers linked up some beautiful passes whilst working on some new plays and tactics. �Todays Captain was Oscar contributing important decisions and Man of match went to Vinnie.

U9 Eagles Match Report

The boys continued their excellent start to the season today. After a slow start, they adapted well and began to play the aggressive flowing football that we all enjoy watching.

With James(1), Freddie(1), Quinn(1), Billy(1) and Albert(4) all on the scoresheet, this showed a strong team performance and very positive for more players to open their account for the season this early on.

The flowing passing play was obvious for all after seeing assists from James(1), Albert(1), Jenson(1), Kian(1) and Billy(2)

Julius and Leo were full of energy on return from illness/holiday and worked tirelessly to help the team.

All topped off by the resolute work at our own end from Wali and Harry to complete an assured team performance.

Special mention for Albert delivering a Man of the Match performance with 4 goals and 1 assist.

AFC Stoneham Panthers U10 Report

Today we played our very own Spitfires in a scrappy game. Not the result we wanted and just wasn’t meant to be. Apart from having more of the possession, thought we controlled the game. The passing was really good. There were a few individual errors that costed a few of the goals. But that’s how we learn.

We just didn’t take our chances, on another day, we could have had 4/5 more goals but for their brave keeper.

Put this game behind us and move on to next week.

Man of the match went to Gabi.

Apart from his 2 magical moments, thought his teamwork was excellent.

Well done Gabi, well done all of you for not giving up.

Special menton to Henry for his two magic moments also.

U12 Wolves

Manager's Report: Stoneham U12 Wolves

v Romsey Cougars (a) Tyro div 7

The Wolves were at their very best today in a 4-0 win for our first ever competitive league match.

Building on a successful summer, it was a quiet start before Ahmed opened the scoring mid way through the first half, making his Wolves league debut in central midfield alongside the non-stop box-to-box Rayane.

Quality crosses had been coming in from both flanks, especially from Dash and Frankie who were both full of running throughout the game. Adam is quickly learning how to link play between midfield and attack and Muhammed was often in the right place to either run, create or shoot and made one reverse through pass to Adam that was pure delight.

Dominik then showed agility to tip a quality Romsey cross just over the head of their forward while leaning backwards to prevent a certain equaliser. Dominik was to make one other incredible save and tip away another good cross to keep us in the lead before a moment of magic from Dylan ten minutes into the 2nd half when he lobbed the keeper from 30 yards (he will say he meant it) to double the score.

Then, enter sub Evan! Talk about making an impact! Firstly, a perfectly placed curled shot from the edge of the area, and then a well struck penalty put the Wolves beyond reach. During this time, Harry had also come on to make the extra back and ensure the clean sheet.

Everything was led by captain Jude who had an excellent game at the back and together with first Dylan then Alfie, the distribution from the back was of a good standard.

Key to this win was the passing and movement between all the players that, at times, was a delight to watch.

Frankie becomes our Wolf of the Week for an energetic performance down the left in which he was a continual threat to the Romsey defence.

Well done to all the boys!

U12 Girls

AFC Stoneham Jaguars 5

Bursledon Phoenix 1

The Jaguars played their first ever match together against a team from their new division and finished up comfortable winners.

The start of the game was very equal and only solid defending from Jasharna, Elyssa and Isla prevented the opponents from opening the scoring.

At the other end, both Aimee and Annabelle had chances to score before Izzy got the teams first goal with a tidy finish after a strong run.

Anaya, in goal, had very little to do but her distribution was very good and she had no chance when Bursledon made the score 1-1.

Evie restored the Jaguars lead with a long range strike.

Belle and Zara both had good runs that were stopped by last ditch tackles before Izzy made it 3-1 with another good goal.

Pippa and Amy both played defence, midfield and upfront which really helped the team.

Evie scored her second of the game to make it 4-1 before Masey lobbed the keeper to seal the win.

U12 Jaguars

Sholing red vs AFC Stoneham Jaguars

Match Day 1

The mighty Jaguars couldn’t wait to get their season underway.

The first half we came out all guns blazing Harry Blanchard running the show with a faultless performance.

We pushed and pushed and Sholing goalkeeper some how kept us out for 15 minutes until Harry managed to unlock the defence and set up his teammates to open up the scoring goals from Egit x2 Harry x1 Zohair x1 in the first half.

Second half was pretty much the same from the Jags but their goalkeeper was still keeping us out.

We conceded a goal from a long ball that somehow managed to bounce in the box and evade Riley that was the only thing that Riley had to do for the whole game was to pick the ball out of the net.

We pushed for the next goal and good link up play from Harry to Egit crossing the ball to the back post for Alex to get his well deserved goal.

U12 Spitfires

The U12 Spitfires started their season strongly with an excellent 7-1 victory against Romsey. The first half was tight, offering chances to both teams. Stoneham were the more clinical in their finishing, with man of the match Freddie scoring two great goals, the second following a quick break and brilliant ball through by Ethan. The Spitfires’ keeper Carmel produced a great save to tip a long range Romsey shot onto the crossbar, and Romsey also had a header hit the post. In the second half Romsey scored early on to make it 2-1, but this didn’t phase Stoneham whose team spirit and ruthlessness really shone through to dominate possession and create chance after chance. A further 5 goals were scored with Freds getting his well deserved hat-trick, and goals from Ethan, Bushy, Charlie and Alfie. All of the boys played their part today, being strong in the tackles and some great passing, however striker Freddie’s performance really stood out with his tenacious and skilful play. Well done boys.

U13 Spitfires (Mid Solent)

A great start to the season for the U13 Spitfires with a victory against a strong Gosport Blue in the Saturday mid solent league.

The Spitfires were slow out of the blocks with Gosport pinning the Spitfires back early on. Once the boys had settled they started to create chances with Freddie scoring to put the Spitfires 1-0 up. Gosport replied quickly as the boys failed to clear their lines from a corner. Man of the match Bushy then lashed the ball in the back of the net with his trusted left foot to give the Spitfires a 2-1 lead at the break. Stoneham played some great football in the second half in very hot conditions, making Gosport Blue work hard and result to long balls from the back. Freddie secured the win with his second. A few more chances were created and keeper Johnnie pulled off a spectacular save at close range late on. All in all the boys gelled well and worked hard for each other for a deserved victory.

U13 Knights

U13 Knights vs Alresford

After a summer of much change to the team personnel, the Knights got the season off to a great start against Alresford Town.

The opening 10 minutes saw us pass the ball brilliantly well and make a couple of chances for dynamic forward Travis to narrowly put wide.

The break through came when CB Milo won the ball high in our half, calmly play a pass to Ryan who in turn played an excellent ball through to Travis who had spun on his defender and ran on to stroke the ball home.

We continued to pass and play well, we came close to a 2nd through shots from Charlie and Taylor. Winger Carl showing what a brilliant deadline day signing he was, being a constant pain to the opposition RB.

Alresford to their credit grew into the game and managed to find an equaliser after us just failing to clear our lines.

At Half time we spoke about keeping our passing game going and being brave on the ball.

We did that and continued to pass and probe and made more chances, hitting the bar and not quite finishing off moves.

In the end our winner came after some great work by Trey allowed him to slip Travis in again to hit home.

We saw the game out well, Alresford having a couple of corners but we stood firm.

Everyone played their part today, all working hard for the team and giving commuted displays.

Players of the day go to Carl and Travis, both were tenacious and brave and Travis getting two goals.

U14 Spitfires vs Lymington

Our 1st game of the new season was against a team we have never played before in Lymington.

A very close end to end game and a good watch for the neutral. Both teams were trying to break each other down and the deadlock was broken midway through the 1st half when Lymington took the lead. The response from the boys was superb and within minutes were level after Charlie Gray’s shot came back off the bar but ended up at the feet of Harley Marjason who fired into the roof of the net.

2nd half was much the same but feel we looked the most likely to score and when we were awarded a free kick just outside the box Zach Rutherford curled the ball over the keeper on his Spitfires debut to put us ahead.

Boys battled hard to keep the lead and Josh Beadsworth made some great saves in goal to retain the lead but in the last couple of minutes a penalty was awarded against us for handball and game ended 2-2.

Really impressed with the performance and a great start to the season. Was certainly a team effort and as a result the team all shared the POM award.

U18 Spitfires vs Hythe & Dibden Thunder

A fantastic start the season with a thumping win in the rain.

Boys got off to a flyer with Tristan Sparkman putting the boys ahead early on quickly followed by a 2nd from an unfortunate own goal then Jack Polkinghorne added our 3rd which put us in full control. Ollie Payne then added a 4th from spot after being brought down. Hythe managed to pull a goal back from a corner but the boys then took complete control of the game when Aaron Batista added a 5th and Taylor Waters our 6th to end a dominate 1st half.

2nd half was pretty much the same with the boys in complete control when Ollie Payne got his 2nd with probably goal of the match then Tristan Sparkman, Aaron Batista & Taylor Waters all getting their 2nd goals of the game. Our final goal was scored by Samuel Lawrie to complete the rout winning 11-1 but on another day could easily have been 20 but could not have asked anymore from the boys and a great start to the new season.

POM was between a number of players but Aaron Batista took the accolade as was an instant threat all game.

U18 Knights Match report:

AFC Stoneham Knights lost at home 1-3 to Champion Sports in their first fixture of the season playing in Testway U18 Div1.

In sweltering conditions the boys got off to a great start playing some good football and dominating possession. We had several chances in the first half, Ewan closest after hitting the woodwork. Unfortunately, against the run of play we conceded and went in at half time one nil down. In the second half, again we created chances but couldn't find the net. Opposition took their chances to go 3 up. Finally, Blake was able to stick one away with his head. Decent performance against what could be the strongest side in the league.

MOTM goes to Blake for his work rate, determination and scoring our only goal.

Great to be back and feel sure next week we will have more great match reports!!
