Sunday 7th Nov - Round Up part 2

Sunday Round Up - Part 2

U14 Knights

Knights lost 3-0 to unbeaten top of the table Millbrook at home in Tyro Div 1. The 3 goals came in a 5 minute spell in the first half. The second half saw no goals scored.

Mom was Ben for 2x solid performances at the back this weekend against 2 of the best teams we have faced all season.

All the boys deserved more today.

U14 Wolves

A fantastic performance under the lights from all the boys tonight after a nervy 10 mins boys started to control the game well. Created many chances throughout the 2nd half and saw the game out to win 2-0. Wonder goal from luke, and a 2nd from floyd.

Parents mom went to Max

Managers mom went to Alfie Pack

U14 Panthers

U14 Panthers played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at home to Romsey Cougars. The boys were very slow in starting and went 1-0 down early in the second half, and were thankful to stand in keeper Joe Phillips for keeping the score down until half time. The second half proved to be much improved, with the boys playing some good football and showing more energy off the ball and deservedly equalised through Matthew Riordan. The boys then took the lead after Tomi Mengyi headed a corner, however we’re pegged back shortly afterwards after a scramble in the box following a Romsey corner. The Panthers re took the lead through an own goal, again from a corner, but could not hold on, with another scramble after some poor defending allowed Romsey back in to equalise late on. Man of the Match was Tomi Mengyi after providing a great assist and goal.

U15 Spitfires

Spitfires played a great game away to Alresford Town Lions winning 4-3. Score line closer than it should have been as Tristan Sparkman, Taylor Waters & Fergus Mitchell-Moore putting us 3-1 at half time. Alresford fought back to level the game but a thunder bolt from Harry Cull won us the game. POM went to Tristan Sparkman not only for a wonderful cross/shot goal but was at the centre of all our attacks and chipped in with an assist as well as his goal. Great performance.

U16 United

From being comfortably 0-2 up at half-time, 60 seconds of madness midway through the second half allowed QK to get back to 2-2. But we keep our composure and deservedly got the winner in the final minute.

QK Southampton 2 - 3 United

U16 Panthers

WOW...BRILLIANT ....

End of match report (surely not?)

But just incase you want to know more, as “hinted” at above, the U16 Panthers emphatically swept aside the league leaders Littleton, with the complete team performance.

Back to front, left to right, every player could have been awarded man of the match and to single out players seems unfair, but it would be remiss of me not to mention Cam Churcher in defence, Jude Cowan in midfield and Dylan Cross and Sam Holder up top.

The 5-1 margin truly didn’t flatter the boys, with goals from Dylan Whaley, Sam Holder, Dylan across and a brace from Man of the Match Luke Collins-Smith.

Well done boys and the management team!

Sunday 7th Nov - Round Up part 1

Sunday Round Up- Part 1

U8 Spitfires

Spitfires came up against our very own Panthers in a good game of football played by both teams. Close game throughout but the Panthers ended stronger with some quick fire goals. Spitfires battled hard and Brody Hibberd on fire in front of goal. POM went to Adriano Philips who was solid throughout and at the centre of all our good play. Well done to not teams and congratulations to the Panthers.

U8 Jaguars

Jaguars were caught a bit off guard early on and conceded a silly goal initially. This seemed to liven them up and they began to get in to their stride.

Goals came from Sam (4),Leo (3), Avi (1) and Louis (1).

We were most proud to see the fruits of our labour from training. The boys played brilliantly as a team. The were all looking up and playing the simple pass rather than trying to over-complicate things.

There were some excellent assists as well as goals, showing that the work we have been doing on running the ball down the line and crossing it in to the middle is really paying dividends.

Leo took Player of the day for his work rate, assists and goals but all 7 boys who played today gave 100%.

Great job Jaguars!

U8 Hurricanes

Really entertaining game today against a good Millbrook team. The game was end to end with the lead changeing hands a number of times. We had some great link up play which was straight from the training ground this week. Zachary bagged a brace and Callum also converted from close range, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to win the game. Reggie was a nuisance for them in midfield and came close to scoring, but it came back off the post. Today's POM went to Reggie for his tackling, work rate and determination.

U8 Thunder

Played against a previously unbeaten opposition today.

First quarter we set off a little slow and found ourselves behind but after a bit of luck with an own goal and a cool, calm finish by Freddie the 1st quarter ended all square.

A goalless 2nd quarter meant the second half was all to play for. Eryk today showed great work rate and his tackling to break up play was immense. Two goals for them in the 3rd quarter put us on the back foot but the boys dug in and Harry scored a lovely goal to keep the game tight.

The 4th quarter was all Thunder.

Teddy slotted home to equalise and we piled on more pressure. Another disallowed goal followed towards the end meant the game ended in a draw.

A good performance by the boys who came away disappointed that they didn’t win.

U9 Panthers

U9 Panthers had a great first game in their new Red 1 division, playing out a fantastic competitive game against a great Winchester team. Both sets of players put on a great performance, highlighted by our player of the day, Tate, for a show stopping performance in goal. Jacob grabbed our goal today to cap an excellent team display. Well done Panthers

U9 Royals

Really competitive game vs Romsey Town Tigers today both sides having spells of dominance in the game. A well worked short free kick from Danny set up Henry to smash it home from the edge of the box. Aron also scored a proper strikers goal at the back post. Special mention to Archer for many 1v1 saves putting his body on the line. MOTM went to Dexter showing great skills, passing and a solid all round performance.

U10 Jaguars

Jaguars v Alresford

A really gritty performance from the Jaguars against a much improved Alresford who we played earlier in the season.

First half goals from Egit saw us take an early lead and allowed us to settle into the game.

Solid effort today from our defence and midfield along with good performances from our keepers Anders and Jacob again, giving the Jags another clean sheet.

MOM Harry

Coaches Player of the Week Jacob

U10 Wolves

As the Wolves lined up in gleaming purple, they sensed the inevitable triumph was about to happen. Surely, this day, this time!

Relief and euphoria! A final score of Wolves 8 Opponents 2. The Wolves had feasted in style!

The headlines will be about the goals, each one so well deserved, three from Oakley including one much celebrated direct from a corner, two each from the skills masters Adam and Finn and one OG. But the build-up play would often feature one-twos with Oskar P or well-timed support from Dash or Harry or even 'high-line' Alfie to create the overload.

Partnerships are being formed on the pitch and leaders are being discovered. Such things will be needed soon as we prowl yet deeper into the unknown.

Up at half-time, the instruction went out to win the second half with no room for complacency against one and briefly two extra 'mercy' opponents and the boys still delivered.

We learnt plenty about our defenders as well today. Rivers did a fine marking job, Rayane showed strength and balance whenever tackling facing his own goal, Harry was faultless in starting the match with his first ever quarter at Central Defence and Sweeper Keeper Noah made 3 excellent saves as he visibly grew in confidence.

But Wolf of the Week... for the first ever hat-trick by a Wolves player... is Oakley!

Congratulations and well done to everyone.

U10 Spitfires

A great performance today saw the U10 Spitfires come out on top against a good Winchester team. After a slow start goals from Alfie x2, Freddie x 2, Zack, Charlie and Joey sealed a 7-2 victory. Man of the match was a tough choice, but went to birthday boy Joey who made some great passes, looked confident driving forward and scored his first goal of the season. All in all it was a pleasure to watch the boys play today. Well done Spitfires.

U11 Royals

The boys played really well today and deserved the 3-2 win. The goals came from Allistair and Noah. The man of the match was Tom who made some terrific saves and kept us in the game.

U11 Knights

An early away match to Winchester City today saw an absolutely fantastic performance by the team.

Our passing and work rate was superb and some brilliant individual performances.

After being on the back foot for the opening 7/8 minutes, we then took control of the match, passing in triangles, being brave on the ball and passing to feet.

We did this and more today.

Goals from Charlie S x2, Tom, Noah, Charlie P x2.

Players of the day to Charlie S, his bravery on the ball and running at the defence was immense and 2 quality finishes.

Louis for work rate, being so strong in the middle of the park and his passing was spot on.

Great game!

Up the Knights!

U12 Panthers

U12 Panthers managed to get a late winner at home to Winsor today.

Having taken the lead in the first minute we found ourselves 4-2 down to score 3 late goals to win 5-4. The supporters enjoyed watching far more than the coaches.

Goalscorers today were Jake with 3, Zach and Sam White with a fantastic last minute goal to top it off.

Man of the match today went to Sam White who was by far our best player and topped it off with his amazing last minute winner.

Shout out to Ewan, Liam and Alfie who all played out of position today so thanks for doing us a favour

U12 Spitfires

Tough day for the U12 Spitfires against Romsey Town Cougars in a game where nothing seemed to come off and lost 4-0. Romsey’s GK made a few great saves in the game to keep us at bay. Overall both teams had numerous chances and credit to Romsey who took theirs well. We draw a line after today’s performance and come back stronger next week. POM went to Harley Marjason who battled hard throughout.

U12 SHARKS 4-1 BADDESLEY PARK CRISADERS

(HT 2-0)

Chiguvare (3)

Taheem

MotM - MacAskill

Parents MotM - Blakely

A fantastic game where the Sharks produced a dominant display showing the level that they are capable of playing at.

Chiguvare was played through by a great ball, from Hallett, beat the defence and shot from the edge of the area. His shot ricocheted off both posts and the underside of the bar before finding the back of the net.

Chiguvare then managed to out run defenders, once either side of half time, to get on the end of long balls to the slot the ball calmly into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick.

With around ten minutes to go Taheem picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box, pivoted and smashed the ball into the bottom corner, leaving the keeper with no chance of saving.

Fantastic energy shown throughout by the Sharks today for a great team win.

Thank you Baddesley and we wish you all the best for the rest of the season.

Some great performances and well done to all of our young teams !

Saturday Round Up

Boys U8 very local derby

U8 Wolves v U8 Spitfires

Wow, what a game it was today between two very competitive AFC Stoneham teams - Spitfires and Wolves!

Spitfires started strongly and took an early advantage with goals from Joseph and Donnatello. In the second quarter it was a different story with Wolves blasting out of the blocks and getting back on level terms.

The third quarter saw the momentum swing back towards Spitfires with goals from Donnatello and goal of the match from Asher which was created by a wonderfully accutate long pass from Donnatello.

The match was far from over going into the final quarter though and Wolves would not give up. They scored again and the match was fiercely competative until the final whistle. Wolves were very unlucky not to score in the dying seconds. The ball hit both posts but somehow it did not cross the line during the goal mouth scramble that followed.

The game was a real thrill for spectators of both teams not lleast because the game was played in such great spirits. Both teams should be very proud of themselves and were a credit to the club.

U9 Girls

U9 girls continued with our amazing start to the season to progress to the next round of the cup.

Today's goalscorers were Chloe with 2 and singles from Seren and Millie-Mae.

Another brilliant performance from each and every one of the girls who continue to make everyone proud. Girl of the game today went to Matilda for her brilliant all round performance and great positional awareness. Seren was voted oppositions player of the game.

Well done girls and keep smiling as you play

U11 Girls Tornadoes 6

U11 Southbrook 0

A great game today by the Tornadoes which saw fantastic passing, set pieces and formations generate a 6-0 win away to Southbrook leading to next round of the cup for the girls.

A well earned win

U12 Girls Panthers V Alton Panthers

Good, even first half, with the Panthers playing some really good football.

The girls were unlucky to concede a goal 10 minutes before half time.

HT 1-0 Alton

The girls started the second half with determination to turn the game around, and got the goals they deserved! Melina scored twice.

There could've been a third with Ella hitting the bar. The girls fully deserved the win, to progress to the next round of the Plate.

FT 2-1 AFC Stoneham.

Opposition player of the match went to Melina.

Parents player of the match went to the whole team, as they couldn't choose just one player.

U13 Girls

Cup action for the U13 girls, away at Netley Royals who sit top of our league with a perfect record so far. It would be a tough game ahead.

First half we started a little slow but soon increased our energy levels and created a couple of early opportunities. Then Netley scored with their first attack of the game, a fortuitous slice that lobbed over our GK. The girls then dominated the half and bossed the game, we were all over them, winning tackles, first to every ball, and using our pace out wide as we’d worked on in training. Despite the pressure and territory we couldn’t score. HT 1-0 down.

Team talk was easy. Out of possession, more of the same. In possession be a bit calmer. The goal will come!

Second half Netley sat back, and the girls continued their intensity and trying to create that chance… Finally the ball broke 12 yards out and Christiana Lambert drilled a half volley into the corner. What a finish. 1-1.

We pressed, we defended magnificently, so determined. The crowd was buoyant willing the girls on but the game finished 1-1….

PENALTIES…..

Lambert = Goal! Netley = Goal.

Reed = Miss, Netley = Saved!

Johnson = Goal!, Netley = Saved!

Banks = Goal!, Netley = Saved!

AFC STONEHAM WIN 3-1 ON PENALTIES !!

(Report of the day ! Exciting just reading it !)

Girls U14 Lionesses 4 Stubbington 0

A really solid performance from all the girls today, dominating possession for most of the game against an improved Stubbington side from last months match.

Some of the passages of play were excellent, the 1 touch passing through the lines was superb, resulting in 2 of the goals. The defence looked in total control and looked to pass the ball out from the back. The midfield and forwards linking up really well too.

The girls have really stepped up a level this season, and seem to be improving week on week. Long may this continue.

GoG Amy Coleman

Bring on the next round!

Boys U14 Knights

Playing up a year in the U15 Testway League Div 2 came back from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 away against Shooters Youth Blue.

This was an entertaining game to watch against a physically imposing opposition.

The goal was scored by Waseem (45’).

MOM was Jack for his non stop battling against a very big opposite number in the middle of the park.

Great performance from every player all across the pitch.

U14 Girls - Eagles

Away v City (Cup)

The Eagles put City straight under pressure from the off and moved the ball around well, gradually wearing down their defence but a strong keeper read the game well and was in the right place at the right time for every attack. We dominated for the most part, with Polly constantly shutting down in midfield and distributing the ball well, but we took a risk throwing our centre back up for a corner and were hit on the break, conceeding on the half hour mark.

The girls responded with immediate pressure and a clever attack which led to Lexie lobbing the keeper 2 minutes later for the equaliser. Our determination and work rate strengthened further and a dangerous pass across the box from Ailish found a confident Priya who's only intention was to break the net with a powerful shot, edging us ahead right before half time. 1-2.

We were just as passionate in the 2nd half, giving City no time on the ball and switching play to come at them from all angles. Another lob, this time from Elvin, extended our lead to 1-3 on 50', and we were unlucky not to add to that.

A well deserved win and the Eagles will definitely sleep well tonight!

1-3 full time.

AFC Stoneham 2-0 City Ladies

An away fixture in a windy and blustery Farlington yesterday saw AFC Stoneham JPL U16’s battle to secure a win. With numerous shots on target it remained 0-0 at half-time. The girls continued to battle, with the wind on their side in the second half, And managed to score 2 goals from open play, from Ede and Kayleigh.

U18 Girls

Match Report 2/11/21 - Christchurch away

Christchurch 0-5 AFC Stoneham

A rescheduled fixture saw AFC Stoneham travel to Christchurch on a cold and windy Tuesday evening. AFC Stoneham are looking to continue their recent winning form after beating Baffins Milton Rovers 3-0 last week. Two changes were made by The Purples with Ronan Galloway and Mat Bainbridge making way for Ben Clarke and Ryan Penny.

AFC Stoneham started the first half brightly – first chance at goal came from Ryan Penny who collects the ball at the edge of the box and shoots but it goes wide. Christchurch had chances as well to make it 1-0 when Ethan Maddocks played the ball over the top of the Stoneham defence, Matthew Stephenson brings it down and shoots but it goes just wide of the post.

16 minutes gone and AFC Stoneham win possession in there own half, a pass to Scott Hills on the left side sees him cross the ball into the path of Cal Laycock who chips it over the keeper who came running off his line and makes it 0-1 to The Purps. AFC Stoneham pile on the pressure after the goal and earn a free kick just on the inside of the halfway line on the right side, some quick one  touch football is shown but a loose pass is made and the keeper easily sweeps up the danger for Christchurch. Another chance goes astray to make it 0-2 when Jake Thomson presses the Christchurch defence and forces a mistake from the player, Thomson takes advantage from the mistake and crosses the ball into the box, Cal Laycock brings the ball down and has a shot at goal which skims the goalpost and it goes out for a goal kick.

36 minutes into the first half Jim Orvis plays the ball into Christchurch’s box which ricochets off the defender and into the path of Scott Hills. Hills shoots but it hits the post, however Hills pounces on the rebound and once again has a shot at goal and this time buries it the bottom left hand corner making it 0-2 to Stoneham. Christchurch have a chance before the halftime whistle when Tyler Forbes from the edge of the box has a shot but it skims the top of the crossbar instead. At half time it is 0-2 to AFC Stoneham.

 HALF TIME – Christchurch 0 – 2 AFC Stoneham

Christchurch kick us off for the second half and go on the attack straight away they have a few chances at goal but none that are a real threat for Tom Parker-Trott. AFC Stoneham win a free kick on the edge of the d – Jake Thomson takes his shot takes a deflection off the defensive wall and sends the keeper the wrong way making it 0-3.

AFC Stoneham make there first change of the evening with Ryan Penny coming off for Diego Romero. Christchurch make a change as well with Jamie Power making way for Joe Stacey. Joe Stacey makes himself known quickly proving himself as an impact substitution when he retrieves the ball outside the penalty box and shoots at goal but it’s an easy save for Tom Parker-Trott.

Second change of the evening for AFC Stoneham sees Tommy Barnes make way for Mat Bainbridge on 69 minutes, quickly after the change Stoneham’s Jake Thomson once again makes it 0-4. A great worked goal sees Parker-Trott’s goal kick headed over the top of the right back by Cal Laycock and flicked into the feet of Thomson who smashes it in the back of the net. 81st minute sees the third and final change for AFC Stoneham with Cal Laycock off and Duarte Martins on – only 9 minutes left on the clock.

83rd minute arrived and sees once again a well worked goal for AFC Stoneham making in 0-5. A ball over the top of the defence by Diego Romero is brought down by Jake Thomson who crosses into the goalmouth in which Duarte Martins buries it in the back of the net.

Full Time – Christchurch 0-5 AFC Stoneham

 Line up for AFC Stoneham

Parker-Trott, Kerton, Barnes, Bulpitt, Wiseman, Clarke, Penny, Orvis, Laycock, Thomson, Hills

Subs – Clements, Bainbridge, Galloway, Martins, Romero

Saturday round up.

Not so many games this weekend due to half term

U7 Spitfires

U7 Spitfires played a good spirited game in torrential rain against U7 Tigers. Spitfires focus was on their shape and positional play and impressed with how they linked up, in front of goal. MOM went to Charlie Liburd showing great composure on the ball

U9 AFC Stoneham Knights JPL 3

U9 Proco 0

Knights won 3-0 vs Proco, an established JPL team, continuing their excellent form in their first season in the JPL. Some excellent team work, combined with some great defending at times ensured our clean sheet.

Goals from Antek and Jack secured the victory today. Man of the match today was Jacob for a great play in midfield, setting up counter attacks after winning the ball back in midfield. Well done Knights.

AFC Stoneham Lionesses Girls U14 1 Pompey 7

Well if ever there was a game of two halves that was it. The final score not representing how the game played out. A superb 1st half performance from the Purps saw them dominate a Pompey team who have scored 36 goals in the last 2 games, to just 1 goal (which was from a slip in the 'wet' conditions.) Every girl was superb and the way they played as a team was the best I've seen them play. A goal either side of half time effectively ended our chances and, a few heads went down it must be said. After getting a goal back at 4-1 a fightback was on the cards... only for their No 9 (GotG) to score straight from the kick off.

The scoreline flattered Pompey and our girls should be proud of they way they played today, if they keep on playing like they did 1st half, then theyll be right up at the top of the league at the end of the season.

Lee Hewett

A sublime performance from our Vets. Fantastic to see two of our junior team coaches scoring for the vets with Ashley Holland (U8) scoring 4 and Lee Hewett (U9) notching a hat trick along with Mikey Harris.

The game was also superbly refereed by our U7 Spitfires manager Matt Whale.

Great to see the above which very much epitomises what we are as a club

Sunday Round up

U8 Spitfires came up against our very own Thunder this morning in a great game of football. Enjoyable to watch with some great football played by both teams. Thunder dominated the 1st 2 quarters taking a well deserved 3 goal lead but Spitfires then started to play and fought back excellently to level the game. The match was looking to end as a draw but a penalty for handball in the last minute won it for the Thunder. Congratulations to the Thunder and well played by both teams. Goals scored for the Spitfires by Henry Polkinghorne, Brody Hibberd & Elliott Finch. POM went to Harvey Whyte who played well in goal and excellent in the last quarter when outfield. Up the Purps!

U8 Panthers

What a great game that was today!

It was an even match with both teams having chances to win the game.

Oliver and James defended superbly. Lucas was great in midfield with some important tackles. Ollie showed some good footwork and passing. Henry ‘midfield general’ was as ever all over the pitch enforcing and bagged himself a goal. Harry is also starting to show that bite in the tackle and got on the scoresheet. Jenson ‘the goat’ was a menace in attack and was unlucky not to get more than the one goal today. I think we must have hit the post and bar nearly double figures. But my man of the match was David. His rushing out, point blank saves and distribution was outstanding today, well done David. Again well done all of you.

Final score 3-3 .

U8 Jaguars and U8 Hurricanes

faced off today in this AFC Stoneham Derby.

Samuel opened the scoring for Jaguars in the first quarter but both teams started well and there was little to separate them early on. In the second quarter Hurricanes were rewarded for thier endeavour and levelled the scoring. The deadlock was broken by a wonder-goal by Avi for Jaguars, who ran the length of the pitch before rounding the keeper and tucking the ball home.

In the second half, Jaguars went from strength to strength.

Goals for Jaguars came from Samuel (x 4), Leo, Louis and Avi.

Player of the day for Jaguars went to Avi who played some brilliant football after being away for a couple of weeks. Avi, it's great to have you back

U8 AFC Stoneham United vs Windsor United green

Good game from both teams as the conditions eased off just in time for kick off. Goals from Alex, Elijah, Charlie and a double from macca helped the boys to a hard earned and pleasing win. 4 games without defeat with confidence and belief showing throughout.

U10 Spitfires

A 3-1 loss today for the U10 Spitfires despite some good football being played. Alfie put the spitfires 1-0 up and was man of the match for a battling performance in midfield. The boys will rue some missed chances and some defensive errors but should be commended for the way they continue to play as a team and play out from the back.

U10 Jaguars v U10 Royals

Today saw the derby rematch of our first ever game as a AFC Stoneham team. With very trying blustery gales this was a very competitive game.

Goals from our star strikers Egit and Will along with a long awaited goal from our captain Alex saw the Jaguars seal a win despite a valiant effort from our opponents.

This game was a great advert from two very well matched AFC Stoneham teams.

U10 Wolves

United in adversity, the drenched and sodden Wolves ran out on to the pitch hungry for prey. So near did they come. So near indeed!

It was quite simply the best performance of the season so far. They had learnt well from training. Play as a team and control the press.

The defence, marshalled by Alfie, made a great shield for Noah who was making his debut in goal, and Noah had a good game, in particular when coming off his line on more than one occasion like a 'sweeper keeper' to clear a dangerous through ball that threatened a goal. But right defender Dominik is Wolf of the Week as he continues to learn from training and capped it off today with a fine display.

Midfielders Adam, Finn and Harry were creating chances. Everything going to plan!

When a shot is missed, it's too easy to blame the shooter. But they still must have been in the right place at the right time to get the opportunity. So, special mentions to both attackers, Tyler and Oskar P, for good positioning and attempts at goal.

Goalless it remained until the very end when a cross shot from Brendon 66 found our net.

The final whistle. A 1-0 defeat to the team at the top who are to be promoted from next week. The out of luck Wolves withdrew from the scene, but next time, they just might be hungrier than ever.

U11 Jaguars

Another solid performance from the jags today against a well drilled Hamble side. We started strong with leading scorer Elliot adding to his tally. Freddie then chipped in with a lovely solo goal including a nutmeg to increase the deficit. Hamble pushed back but the midfield and defence had a solid game throughout the 60 minutes. The purps pushed on with owen slotting his penalty away with confidence.

Motm today was Owen who not only contributed with goals and build up play but tracked back and won the ball in key areas.

U9 Girls

U9 girls continued our amazing run in a tough game away to Down Grange. We were down to just 7 players today due to some illness but the girls worked hard as a team, played some great football and got the result the efforts deserved.

Everyone played amazingly and a Millie-Mae hatrick got us over the line.

Girl of the game this week went to Millie-Mae for her goals and also some great saves when she went in goal.

Well done girls

U10 Panthers

U10 Panthers - a heavy defeat today agains a very strong Moordown side who have been playing league football for 2 seasons now.

AFC Stoneham Tornadoes 2

Whiteley Wanderers 1

A well won victory which should have seen several more goals scored by the Tornadoes dominating the game from the off. A keeper fumble ball over the line and clear penalty were just two chances that should have gone our way.

Whiteley were a strong team but we held on for the 3 points by a strong Tornadoes performance.

Down Grange 0

Cracking performance on a dreadful pitch. Not a surface for passing football but we still moved the ball really well. Big respect to the players.

We dominated from start to finish and I’m not sure we lost a tackle. Their goalie was their MoM which says it all.

Our defence has become the bedrock of our team, Abbi, Amelie, Roxy, Sophie and a cameo at LWB from Nancy, played superbly both in and out of possession. I wouldn’t swap them for anyone in the league and love their tekkers

In midfield we dominated, Phoebe played like Roy Keane, even being told to ‘calm down’ and was often outnumbered but won the ball. All action performance from Nancy, did everything but score today and even chats with me whilst playing Erin enjoyed playing higher up the pitch in CAM, lovely passing, great finish and the back heel pass. Loved the confidence.

Most of the goals came from wide areas today. Aaliyah with a determined performance and brilliant goal. Lauren grabbed MoM with 2 goals and 2 assists despite the and linked up brilliantly with Erin and Abbie 2nd half.

Layla secured Opposition player with a powerful performance, direct and brave, on another day would’ve scored more and wasn’t even fit.

Abbie rounded off the game with a clinical finish for the 5th. Worked hard as always and her link up play made all the difference after half-time, allowed the midfield to create havoc.

Thank you to Waca for his co-management today. He told Erin to stop passing and she scored within 2 minutes so proved his worth. Kev as ever faultless Lino and defensive coach

Match report U13G girls

Away to Alresford in the mist.

A last minute venue change and we had to play 9-a-side with 7 subs!

We started very slowly and found ourselves 1-0 down but we grew into the game and hit back with a goal from Lillie Banks. HT 1-1.

Into the second half we had to change most of the team, unfortunately we conceded two goals. But the girls dug in and kept pressing to get one back. We did, Hetti Webb scoring 3 minutes from time but we couldn’t get the equaliser.

FT ALRESFORD 3-2 AFC STONEHAM

U14's GIRLS - EAGLES

Away v Vectis Youth (I.O.W)

It was a tiring and expensive trip over to the island today to face a strong Vectis side, but fun all the same!

Barely time for a warm up, our girls began their fixture on an uphill slope and overgrown grass on a huge pitch, so we were heavy underfoot from the off. A few girls not back to 100% and with our dependable captain unwell, we faced a tough one.

Vectis were quick to take advantage of the downward slope and sun behind them, slotting home on 7 minutes. We impressed going forward with Ailish especially terrorising down (or up!!) the right wing and creating problems for their otherwise strong defence, but we were unable to get in behind to take advantage of our chances. Vectis found the back of the net a minute from half time to go into the break more comfortably.

We came at them second half and created several chances but never really tested the keeper. Vectis took advantage of a rare corner 10 minutes from time with a cross fired into the box, ricochetting off our defence and into our own net; nothing we could have done about that one! Full time, 3-0.

We met our match today and the better team on the day won, well done Vectis Youth!

Sunday Round Up

Part 2

U12-U16

U12 Panthers

Panthers continued our impressive start to the season with a win in the derby against the Sharks.

Kept our first clean sheet of the season and all 6 goals were brilliant finishes. Goalscorers today were Jake with 3, Joey with 2 and Alfie with a single.

Great performance from everyone single player today man of the match went to Joey Gibson for 2 fantastic finishes and a good hard working game on the pitch

U13 Panthers

Hampshire Cup 1st Round:

AFC Stoneham Panthers U13s 3 -0 Hayling At Andrews White U13s.

Great team performance today. We looked solid at the back, kept our shape and used our wide players well.

We took the lead after 22 mins with a goal from David and an assist from Jude to make it 1-0 by half time. We stretched the lead in the 2nd half after an own goal from a cross down the right from Harry on 42 mins. Jude then made it 3-0 on 25 mins with a light assist coming from Teddy.

Man-of-the-match went to George Hillyear.

U14 Panthers

U14 Panthers put in an awesome performance in the Hampshire Cup, beating Millbrook 2-1. The boys started on the front foot and created a number of chances before going 1-0 up through Will Hosmer, who slotted home after some great pressing forced a mistake. Shortly afterwards Kunashe Musonza was pulled back in the box, and slotted home the resulting penalty for 2-0. The boys continued to create chances in the second half, and really should’ve been out of sight before Millbrook pulled a goal back following a scramble after a free kick. The boys stood firm though and saw out the game.

The boys really deserved a good result after some decent performances with no end product recently, and hopefully this can be a springboard into the upcoming games. Kunashe and Will were voted players of the game.

U14 Royals

The Royals lost 3-1 today to a Portsmouth team in a much higher division. We played our best football and didn't shy away from any challenges with a physical team. 2-0 down at half time we had a great 2nd half with one goal each. Player of the Match was Euan Snelgar for showing great effort and tenacity in defence. Royals' goal was scored by Ollie Brading.

U14 Wolves

Hopefully a lesson we'll learned today, boys went into the cup game very confident, wasn't the most pleasant game to watch, boys created many chances in the first half but couldn't hit the target. Second half was a big improvement with moments of good football but again unable to hit the back of the net. Chances came and came before max managed to strike 1 past to take the lead with 7 minutes to play. Fair play to southside they continued to pressure the boys playing some good football saw a cross put into our own net.

Full time came and boys refocused to finally see the game out on penalties 4-2.

Parents Motm went to Lennon.

U14 Knights

U14 Knights are through to the next round of the Hampshire Cup after beating Whiteley Wanderers 7-1 at home on the Stadia pitch. Goals were from Ewan, Elliot (2 goals), Will, Waseem, Sam & Ben.

MoM was Will for dominating his position, creating several chances and scoring a lovely bicycle kick.

U15 Spitfires

Spitfires came up against 2nd in the league Marchwood Rangers at home. After 3 defeats in a row we needed to change this around as their efforts have not deserved them to be on the losing side and they did just that. An excellent display by all the boys saw them come out 5-2 winners. From the GK to forwards everyone put in a great effort and team spirit was amazing. In a physical game the boys got on and just played their football and deserved the win with our defence looking solid throughout. Goals from Taylor Waters (3), Samuel Lawrie & Ollie Payne. POM went to Harry Cull for a solid defensive display but also contributed going forward with some excellent passing. Really impressed today and pleased for the boys.

Sunday 10th Oct - Round Up Part 1.

Sunday Round Up

Part 1 : U8-U11

Panthers U8 report

What a great game. It was end to end. We started off quickly and found ourselves leading with goals from Jenson, Henry, Harry and Lucas. But the last two quarters the boys started to feel it and was struggling with the heat. David pulled some great saves in goal to keep us ahead with Oliver strong at the back. If it wasn’t for the over extra 2mins the ref gave, it would have ended in a draw, but some lack of concentration and a last minute goal proved too much for our boys. However my man of the match went to James, he was solid at the back and put some great tackles in. Well done James.

Those are the teams we want to be playing every week to improve ourselves. Once again, well done all of you.

U8 Thunder

Another fantastically dominant performance by the boys.

Took a little while to get the breakthrough in the first quarter but when Eryk took the bull by the horns he provided two assists which put us in a great position for the 2nd quarter.

2nd quarter, flood gates opened with a Freddie Hattrick and Archie rounding of a massive quarter.

3rd quarter and against more players the goals dried up by the passing and determination certainly didn’t.

Another 2 goals in the final quarter rounded of a great display.

AFC Stoneham U8s Jaguars V Hamble United

Played a good unbeaten side today, the boys played really well and it was a very close and competitive game. After getting off to a good side we let the lead slip.

Goals

Sam Purchase 2

Leo Gritt 1

Mom

Louie Purchase didnt stop running and his all round play was very good today

U8 Spitfires

Spitfires continued their great start to the season against Pace Panthers. Some excellent passing by the boys and great defending when required. Hit the woodwork numerous times and felt we would never score. The persistence though did pay off in the end. Some great shooting by Brody Hibberd, Adriano Philips & Elliott Finch. Special mention to Henry Polkinghorne for a superb display and energy all game. POM could have gone to anyone as a great team effort but Brody Hibberd took the award. Well done boys. Proud of them all.

U9 Panthers

U9 Panthers had a great game today. Following yesterday’s exploits in the JPL, the team put in a fantastic performance. Goals from Antek, Jack, and Dexter coupled with some heroics from our outstanding keeper Tate ensured a great result today. Well done Panthers

U10 Spitfires

A great team performance against Littleton today resulted in a dominant score line for the Under 10 Spitfires. It was encouraging to see the boys apply pressure for the full 60 minutes, with some great passing and movement across the pitch. Unselfish play saw 6 players on the scoresheet with Freddie scoring 4, Alfie 2, George 2, and 1 each for Charlie, James and Zack. Congratulations to Freddie who was awarded MoM for a great performance up front. A special well-done to goalkeeper Charlie who played really well in his first league game this season for the Spitfires.

U11 Royals

U11 Royals won 9-3 today. It was a great team effort, with goals Jack, Ben, Shimmy, Alistar, Rhydian and Noah. The man of the match was Alistar.

U11 Jaguars

Aka Tommy's Terriers

Great game for the jags today against a good fawley side, the boys went behind early but bounced back with a tidy finish from Elliot assisted from a composed pass by Owen. Freddie went on a lovely run and another quick thinking ball from Owen put Elliot in for his Second of the day. The game was back and fourth but the boys fought there way back throughout first half with Elliot getting his hatrick with a top bins free kick. The boys pushed on second half to go ahead for the first time in the game with 2 more solo goals from the in form striker. Overall a great team performance where every player worked their socks off. Motm today Elliot with just the 5 goals and rockets in his boots! #upthejags #upthepurps

U11 Lions

A good game today from the Lions but a draw was a fair reflection of the game with a last minute Lions equaliser just to make it feel a little bit better. Man Of The Match went to Josh for his brilliant pressing, adaptability & first half strike. Positives definitely to be taken from today, Up The Lions!

U11 Panthers

U11 Panthers had an early kick off today against a very skilful Sholing team in one of our toughest games in Division 1. The lads didn’t disappoint and put in their best performance of the season. Defending from the front and battling for every 50/50 and spoiling play in the midfield. Goals from Fin, Jacob and Oliver combined with outstanding displays from stand in keeper Eddie and an outstanding defensive display from Charley ensured we got the result we deserved. Well done Panthers

Well done to everyone!

U13 Girls - 1st ever game !

Our first ever competitive league game away at Aldershot.

Aldershot started brighter and quickly built a 2 goal lead taking a 2-0 score line in at HT. Into the 2nd half we started competing, dominated possession and territory creating chances. We got hit on the counter for 3-0 but still continued to press forward. Then we conceded a harsh penalty for handball for 4-0 but again we kept attacking and creating chance after chance after chance. Finally we got our breakthrough, Sophie Freeman converting from close range. We kept knocking on the door but our day ended with a 4-1 defeat. Very proud of these girls for that second half display.

The girls will take so many positives from today's first ever game .

U14 GIRLS - EAGLES

Away v AFC Portchester

The girls started their 2021/22 campaign with a goal inside the first minute, following a sweet left strike from Lexie who caught the defence napping. A succession of attacks led to a further goal on 7 minutes, again a left foot strike from Lexie after a sweet throughball from newcomer Priya.

AFC Portchester then came alive and gave us a good game of football to see out the half, with a comeback goal to take us in at 1-2 at half time.

We continued to play with 3 at the back despite Portchester pushing with 3-4 attackers, and the girls kept tight infront of superb GK Polly to keep the opposition out of the game in our half of the pitch.

At the other end, the girls continued to create chances, with Elvin slotting home a goal on her debut on 41 minutes, and Lexie completing her hatrick on 61' to bring home a final result of 1-4!

Angel getting her 4th goal straight after half time with great play from the rest of the girls. Porchester pulled one back making it 4-2 but Angel was on fire making it 5 goals for her with the end score 5-2 to AFC Stoneham. Amazing work rate all round.

Player of the match went to super keeper Millie Mitchell who pulled of some fantastic saves.

Sunday 19 Round up - Part 1

SUNDAY ROUND UP - PART 1

Under 8- 11

U8 Thunder

A great team performance today with some excellent team goals scored. High intensity from the start gave us a sizeable lead at half time and never looked in trouble.

An excellent performance by Captain Eryk proved why he deserved the armband for the next few weeks.

More pressure lead to more goals in the second half. A good team performance, well done thunder

U8 Spitfires

U8 Spitfires had a smacking game today with some excellent football against a physical Winsor side. Brody Hibberd was deadly in front of goal and took home the matchball. Henry Polkinghorne also deadly in front of goal with a sublime chip. POM went to Brody Hibberd.

U8 Jaguars

First game of the season and a good display from the boys, after us starting of on fire, Totton and Eling made a few changes which got them back into the game. But we didnt give up and got stuck back in and come away happy, goals from Aviad Sam 3, Leo and Oscar

Purp of the day was Oscar with some great saves and a goal to add to his excellent performance

U8 Panthers

Well that game had everything today, great strikes, tap-in’s, OG and a Penalty!

But I thought the boys played brilliantly. Their passing was a joy to watch at times. David pulled off some good saves in goal, James and Lucas done extremely well defending and Lucas even got on the scoresheet. Ollie, Harry and Henry worked their socks off in midfield and attack, with Harry on the scoresheet early. Henry and Ollie were was unlucky not to score, they both done everything right, but their GK pulled off some great saves. You all deserved man of the match, but my man of the match today went to Jenson. Apart from his 6 goals he scored, I thought his work rate was great to watch. Well done Jenson, well-done all of you again.

Final Score x-x

U9 Royals

U9 Royals has a tough match .

Aron scoring the first goal of the game slotting home at the back post. St Francis took advantage as the boys were unsettled in their first game together. As the game went on the Royals dug deep and began to dominate the game, just missing the final touch. MOTM went to Archer who made excellent saves throughout alongside great distribution.

U9 Spitfires

Another great performance from the boys and huge effort shown from everyone. A very close game but as the boys started to tire, after all their efforts from JPL Saturday, they were caught out on the counter attack and conceded a late goal.

On target today were Tom Robinson (1) and Reuben Lombard (1).

MoM was our star goalie Jake Clemons, he made some awesome saves today.

U9 Panthers

U9 Panthers continued their positive start to the season against a well organised Millbrook team. Goals from Max, Jakub and Dexter combined with some great play in particular down the wings from Jack, ensured a positive day for the Panthers. Slow start today but grew in to the game. Player of the day was Max for his excellent goals and all action display. Well done Panthers.

U10 Jaguars

A fantastic result today for the U10 Jaguar's after a disappointing start to the season last week. Goals from Egit and Billy saw us take an early lead in the first quarter, settling the team down into playing a well controlled game.

Clean passing and strong defending saw further goals from Egit and Sammie x2 we went from strength to strength in each quarter.

A late goal from Alresford then saw the Jaguar's see out game. MOM was Sammie Simpson who ran tirelessly throughout the game and was rewarded with 2 very well taken goals

U10 Royals

The U10 Royals made it 2 from 2, showing a solid defensive work from Ethan, Owen, & Hayden whom also attacked effectively up the wings with Tuula & Harry. Noah and Marcus caused problems for their defense all game. Royals of the match goes to Noah for breaking the net and Hari for some athletic saves. Well done Royals.

U10 Wolves

A first ever win today for the U10 Wolves was well deserved. Congratulations to every player!

Tactics are being followed and match awareness is improving.

Most notably we saw great interchanging of roles down the right between Harry and Dash, an opening goal with his left foot from Oakley and two classy goals from Finn, one after a dazzling solo run and one a calm finish under pressure.

Special mentions to Noah and Oskar Z for great first performances in new positions.

Wolf of the Week is goalkeeper Reuben for his intelligent positioning, taking on additional goalkeeper training and some outstanding saves over these first two games.

U10 Spitfires

Under 10 Spitfires put on a performance for the spectators against a good Chamberlayne team. Game start well with the purps playing some slick passing moves. They however found themselves behind!!

The boys didn’t panic and continued to play the ball around and soon found themselves in full control. Outstanding team performance which saw Adam Smith clinch the MOM trophy. Alfie Lomas found the net 3 times with Freddie, Bushy and Charlie all netting one each.

U11 Tigers

Another great test for our U11 Tigers squad today, in a game which was goalless first 30mins, dominated by defensive efforts and great saves from both teams.

We continued to create chances and show promise, and it wasn’t long before a poachers finish saw Kristof Hollosy break the deadlock. Hollosy was instrumental in the second also, with a superb through-ball which was tucked away by Jay Baker, to continue his lethal form in front of goal.

Mustapha Suso converted from a Oliver Lewandowski corner to round off our scoring, before a late fight back from Hedge End challenged our tired legs and despite saves from GK Jack Binns, they battled back into the game. In the end our defensive efforts meant we saw out the result and earned another deserved victory against a good side.

U11 Knights

U11 Knights first home game of the season saw a fine performance, showing a combination of skill, composure and work rate. The defence and midfield were combative and attack showed a hunger to chase and press. The passing was fantastic today. Goals from Tom Smith, Conner Gardener and a hat trick from Charlie Payne. Players of the day to Ryan Bunting for a truly dynamic display in midfield and Charlie Payne for his hold up play and goals. Well done all!

U11 Lions

A really good performance today from all despite the result not going our way. Special mention to man of the match Manny for his excellent work defensively. Many positives to take from today moving forward, Up The Lions!

The coveted "Purple team of the day" trophy goes to our super U10 Wolves who enjoyed their first ever win!

Well done to the Wolves and all of our teams who enjoyed another very successful day .

Sunday 19 Round up - Part 2

SUNDAY ROUND UP - PART 2

U12-U18

U12 Panthers

Under 12 Panthers continued our fantastic start to the season with a 3-1 win at Winsor United Green.

For the third week running we went 1 nil down and it stayed that way until half time.

The 2nd half saw us pick up the tempo and a brace of set pieces from Sam Warner sandwiched a single from Jake Fluck. Man of the match was a tough choice this week with some brilliant performances but for his tireless running and all round great game it went to Ewan Halliday.

U12 Spitfires

U12 Spitfires had a tough/physical game away to Millbrook, formerly Bush Hill who are our bogey team who we just can’t seem to beat. Boys battled hard but lost 3-1 although score line doesn’t reflect the game as could have been a draw. Harley Marjason scoring our solitary goal following some nice passing and a defence splitting pass from Oliver Drew. Some great defending throughout and Archie McQuiston (Mr Reliable) was solid and deservedly got POM.

U13 Panthers

AFC Stoneham Panthers 4 - 2 Totton & Eling Allstars.

Great team performance from everyone today. We defended well when we needed to and were hard to break down. Fantastic recovery after going 1-0 down with 3 mins. Goals from Jude (2), Teddy and Jacob.

U14 Panthers match report

U14 Panthers lost to a very strong Warsash Wasps side. The boys took the lead through Tomi Mengyi, who was making his league debut for Stoneham, and lead until Warsash equalised just before half time. In the second half Warsash moved up a few gears and the boys were unable to respond. Harry Clark was man of the match for AFC Stoneham.

U14 Knights

U14 Knights drew 4-4 against Romsey Town. Having gone 3-0 up with goals from Elliot (8’), Adrian (15’) and Ewan (37’), Romsey then scored 4. Waseem (63’) scored the equaliser.

The MoM was Brad who was solid at the back and forming a great partnership with Oliver.

In summary the team dropped points but didn't throw the game away.

U14 Royals

2-2 draw for the Royals today. A very tightly contested game - we went 1 nil up, and later 2-1 up. At times it seemed that the opposition just wanted the ball more than we did but we put in some great performances all over the pitch, and some excellent saves from Rex kept us in the game. Player of The Match goes to Greg Rolinson for giving his all and putting his body on the line for the team. Both goals from Harry Noel #UpThePurps!

U14 Wolves

Good solid performance from the boys today after our slippery mistake early in the game saw us 1 nil down within minutes with a great lob shot from luke saw us back level and from that point onwards boys controlled game well. With boys applying constant pressure in second half finally the door opened up and boys comfortably got a nice 4-1 lead in which they controlled the game out for our first win of the season boys have been unlucky in first 2 games but this day was ours and very much deserved.

Goals from luke, Alfie Kyle and an own goal also.

Motm and parents player of match went to Lennon for an all round perfect performance.

Well done Wolves

U15 Spitfires

U15 Spitfires had a tough game which i am still unsure how we lost. Played home against Alresford Lions and lost 5-3. Damage was done from the long ball which we struggled to handle all game. Our 3 goals were scored by Taylor Waters who was excellent today and all over the pitch and deservedly won the POM award.

U15 United - Peter Houseman Youth League

AFC Stoneham United U15s started the new campaign today in the premier division of the Peter Houseman Youth League with a win!

We faced a very strong and physical Oakley Youth side who scored first early on. We didn’t let that phase us at all and the boys quickly regained possession and took hold of the game. Two goals from Stanley Potter helped secure our first win in this new league. New league, new grounds, new teams, new possibilities and new beginnings!!!

U16 Panthers

Another narrow defeat (1-2) for the U16 Panthers in a game that they should have drawn, and one that but for a couple of missed chances and great saves, they might have won.

One down early on from a disputed free kick, Panthers fought back and deservedly drew equal through a corking finish by Owen Divers, before keeper, Liam Small, brilliantly saved the first of two penalties just before half time.

A momentary switching off on the halfway line, just after the start of the second half, resulted in a second for the opposition, who were strong, aggressive and determined throughout an evenly contested match. Shortly after this, they were awarded a second penalty of the match, but this was once again kept out by Liam, with arguably a better save than the one in the first half.

This spurred Panthers on and they had by far the better of the rest of the match. Owen probed and asked questions time and time again, Cammy had a thunderbolt of a shot amongst many other chances spread throughout the team, but not even a shot/cross that went about 300ft into the air and down onto the keeper’s head found it’s way in.

It’s coming..it’ll happen… and in the meantime, we’ll just enjoy the endeavour, effort and teamwork that this team show.

Special mention must go to Jake Squires who was superb in keeping their No9 quiet throughout the game, but the man of the match award had to go to Liam for his two penalty saves!

Well done to all of our teams on some great performances !

Mens first team update

Our first team have made a pleasing start to the season which, whilst not wishing to make any excuses, has been effected by injuries and unavailability which probably makes the start even more satisfying.

We have had a couple of “lows” losing 6-1 to Shaftesbury in the FA Cup conceding 3 goals in 4 minutes just before half time and then last week losing 2-1 at home to Cowes Sports. Following the FA Cup exit we returned to Shaftesbury a week later with 11 players missing from our squad and earned a very creditable 2-2 draw having been 2-0 down at half time . Duarte Martins scoring a second half brace.

The boys earnt a very creditable draw with Hamworthy before victories over Hythe and Ringwood in the league cup. The last two weekends have seen us travel to Horndean and come away with an excellent 2-0 win and on Saturday we progressed in the FA Vase with a 4-0 home win over Portland United which has earnt us a home draw v Blackfield and Langley on September 25th.

Our injuries have mounted up with key players such as Scott Hills, Nathan Clements and new signing Jamie Bulpitt not having kicked a ball yet this season. We are hoping that Scott and Jamie may be back within 2-3 weeks all going well. Nathan is going to take slightly longer although is progressing well. Ryan Penny, having missed the last 5 games, should also be returning within 2-3 weeks.

Sadly captain and talisman Alex Welch wont be playing again this season having damaged his ACL against Hythe and now requires an operation to reconstruct the knee. We are working with our fantastic sponsor and supporters at the Nuffield Health hospital to arrange this operation for Alex and all of the injured players have been supported by the Nuffield including undertaking their own rehabilitation programme.

We have lost summer signing Jamie Webber to Verwood however have recently signed Jake Thompson from Horndean and Diego Romero from Hythe. A big welcome to both Jake and Diego.

Still very early days in what we hope will be our first ever full season in the Wessex Premier League.

Ladies first team update

Our Ladies ladies started their first ever season in the womens southern regional league with a great 5-3 win over Surrey based Abbey Rangers on an extremely hot summers day. Goalscorers were Alisha Buckingham(2), Jess Treweek, Madi Payne and Kayden Wood . The girls made a great come back having been 2-0 down early on.

With Buckingham on England duty the girls then travelled to Bursledon in the FA Cup (Sept 12) and came away with a convincing 6-0 win with goals from new signing Mia Inglis(2), captain Abbie Awdas, Madi Payne, Jess Treweek and Chloe Stokes. The girls will now travel to Merley Cobham in the next round.

Manager Tom Forbes said, “We have worked very hard during pre-season and having lost two of our young girls to Southampton FC, coupled with our promotion to a level we have never played at previously, we have had to recruit well and are delighted with our new players. In addition the ethos and culture of the club will always be to promote young players from within having built a very strong player progression pathway from girls youth football to womens senior football meaning our team will always have a youthfulness about it.

We made a slow start to the first league game finding ourselves 2-0 down however I was delighted with the comeback which will stand us in good stead for other battles later on in the season . Our FA Cup win was also really pleasing as Alisha was away with England meaning other girls had to step forward which they did with aplomb along with our experienced leaders such as Abbie, Katie, Chloe, Rachel ,Marie and Sian. All in all a very good start however extremely early days to be making any wild predictions! “

Alisha Buckingham - International Purp !

Our very own Alisha Buckingham has been representing England over the last couple of weeks in the Womens European Beach Soccer finals in Portugal.

The team beat Portugal, Czechoslovakia and Switzerland to reach the final where they eventually lost to Russia.

We managed to catch up with Alisha during the week and she was extremely happy with both her own and the teams progress during the tournament.

“The support and messages from family, friends and everyone at the AFC Stoneham has been amazing and means so much. It is such a pleasure to represent my country playing the sport I love and I am looking forward to giving it everything I’ve got in the final tomorrow”

Well done and keep doing AFC Stoneham proud!

Sept 11 and 12 - Weekend update U7-U10

Purps weekend round up

U7-U11

U7 Panthers had another great game this weekend. The man of the match was Logan for his outstanding work and passing of the ball.

U7 Spitfires

showed great team spirit and determination against Windsor United Youth Red U7s in their first EDMSL league fixture of the season going behind early on, to a brace of Windsor goals, Spitfires fought back with goals from MOM performance by Jayden Tribbeck added to by Asher Johnson, Joseph Purchase and Donatello Sserwadda. Great communication, passing and defending shown by the team to overcome a tough opponent!

U7 Hurricanes

Had a great first game !!

Joseph was player of the match 3 goals Reece dribbled from our half and scored an amazing goal

Preston Brooks and Ramsey scored also. Great team win

U8 Panthers

Wow! What a first game to start our league campaign off in Red 1. We started slowly, and at was caught by two long shots. We then composed ourselves and started to dominate. New signing David done well in goal when called upon. James and Oliver were resilient in defence and Oliver also produced a moment of magic the other end after a fine run. Lucas and Ollie were great in midfield, with Ollie also having his moment of magic. Harry was a menace in midfield/attack and managed to score a hat-trick of magical moments.Jenson was again skill full and bagged himself 2 magic moments, but could have been more if it wasn’t for their Gk. But my man of the match today was Henry, his all round work rate, determination and energy was too much for the opponents, and he too managed a hat-trick of magical moments. Well done Henry. Well done to all of you.

What pleased us more than the score, was the passing between each other, the hard work in training is finally showing signs of sinking in! Have a great rest of the weekend Guys.

AFC Stoneham U8 Hurricanes

An eagerly awaited first game of the season and it didn't disappoint, with boys making an awesome start to the season. The boys started slowly, but then it began to click into place. Great movement on and off the ball, impressive effort displayed by each player and some awesome link up play between the team. Very difficult to pick a MOM today with so many strong performances, but today it was given to Oscar for a very strong physical performance and netting himself a brace. Up the purps!

U8 Spitfires got off to a good start to the new season. Great team performance all round with some good goals scored. Henry Polkinghorne and Elliott Finch were deadly in front of goal as were Brody Hibberd, Zachary Curtis & Alfie Bungay. Special mention to Harvey Whyte for his penalty save. POM went to Henry Polkinghorne for a superb display all over the pitch and got to keep the matchball.

Super start to the season.

U8 Thunder

A slow start in the heat but after a 35yard worldy from birthday boy Alex the lads settled down and gained their composure. Tough opponents who battled throughout but after a few more break throughs in front of goals the game settled down.

Player of the day for Thunder was Archie who’s passing and movement was exactly what I ask if the boys. His goal from a short corner rounded of a great display.

Solid start to the season with plenty of areas of work on. C’mon the Thunder.

U9 Panthers started their season off strongly with a great result. Goalscorers Dexter and Jakub ensured we started the season off well. Some great play in parts, and great to see the team starting to gel. Well done Panthers

U10 Spitfires

Under 10 Spitfires got off to a slow start to today’s game. They were on the back foot early on and took their time to get going. The last quarter was a different story as the boys switched on and showed their quick play and slick passing. They dug in deep and honours were even come the end of the game. Bushy found the bet twice and Lomas once. MOM was Zach for his performance in the centre of midfield.

Under 10 Wolves:

There were 11 heroes for the Wolves today with many playing their first ever competitive match and the amazing progress made since our first pre-season friendly was clear to see with much improved teamwork and communication in a close match. From two behind the boys suddenly grew into the game, scored a great goal and were unlucky not to get the equaliser after finishing on top.

Special mentions to Dash for goal of the match during one of his forward runs from right defence, Alfie for leading by example in defence and Oskar P for 100% attendance at everything since day one. Our first 'Wolf of the Week' is Charlie for most improved performance.

Sept 11 and 12 - Weekend update

Purps weekend round up. (part 2)

U11 upwards

U11 Panthers put in another great display this week, gaining a great result against Hamble Club in their second game in Division 1. Some great passages of play in a sometimes physical encounter ensured we were rewarded for our hard work and teamwork. Well done Panthers

U11 Royals had a tough day .

The man of the match was Tom, who made some terrific saves.

U11 Tigers Match Report

Southbrook Pirates 2-3 AFC Stoneham Tigers

A solid test for the first away game of the season for the U11 Tigers, vs a well organised and dangerous Southbrook side.

Despite our hard work, Southbrook took a 1-0 lead, forcing us to battle back into the game and test our desire. An equaliser from Mustapha Suso was followed by a great finish from Vinnie Hamstead, to give us the lead. A third goal came from Zach Simmonds as we created chance after chance. Despite countless superb saves from GK Jack Binns, it was a close final 15mins, with Southbrook scoring a second.

The team all committed defensively to see out the game and earn the victory today. Great effort by all and a good test passed.

U12 Spitfires 1st home game of the season was against Baddesley Park who hit us for 6 last year. This Spitfires team has massively improved and showed today with a 1-1 draw and arguably could of win it. Excellent team performance throughout and so proud of how this team is playing already. Our goal was superbly taken by Harry Halligan rounding the GK to slot home. POM went to Will Lakin for a great performance in defence and his delivery from set pieces was ‘Beckham like’.

Looking forward to the season with this great bunch.

U12 Panthers

Under 12 Panthers had another great win today coming out 6-1 winners against Winchester City Red. We went 1 down but showed great spirit to get back to 3-1 at half-time thanks to a brace from Jake Fluck and a stunning free kick from Sam Warner. Second half started a bit scrappy but Futher goals from Joey Gibson with 2 and a single from Ewan Halliday gave us a 6-1 win. Great effort from the boys and so many could have been MOTM and it was given deservedly to Joseph Westwood for a fantastic display at the back with some great talking too.

Well done to all the boys today

U12 SHARKS 3-2 HAMBLE HAWKS

(HT 1-1)

Harley

Michael (2)

MotM - Ben

A very equal and closely contested first half saw the Sharks score first and the Hawks pull back one to level at half time.

The second half saw the Sharks concede and the defence soaking up a lot of pressure. With a loss looking likely with 2 mins to go, a goal mouth scramble saw a goal for the Sharks. After the restart Hawks pushed forward but Sharks broke down the right wing with the striker scoring a brilliant individual goal to win the game in the final second.

U13 Harriers

The Harriers played against a good Littleton side

Both teams played some great football and was a very close match through out. We started brightly and controlled the the opening half and Littleton had the better of the second half.

Unfortunately we couldn’t see the game out and Littleton equalised in the final minute to end up 3-3.

Overall and draw was a fair result.

Scorers- Billy x3

Mom - went to Josh who kept his shape well and was calm & composed on the ball

U14 Royals vs Hursley

The Royals put in an impressive performance this afternoon and sealed a 3-1 home win. The scoreline doesn’t really do the team justice on the way they played. Being more clinical in front of goal is the next challenge.

Some impressive passing football as well as some disciplined defending was a joy to watch.

Goal scorers today were Harry Noel, Ollie Brading and Finn Hibberd. MOM went to Jack Lowth for his new positive attitude, great work rate and putting in to practice everything we have worked on in training.

Well done Royals, #upthepurps!

U14 Knights

U14 Knights beat Eastleigh in the Community 3-0 on the Stadia pitch. A good team performance with goals from Elliot (41’), Charlie W (63’) and Waseem (67’).

Waseem was MOM for his constant work rate. Well deserved win with big performances all over the pitch.

U14 Wolves

Boys very unlucky today went and played a strong Warsash team. Went 2 nil down very early on before boys managed to pull 2 back before the break, game was very tight throughout with Warsash adding another and we equalised again and then the limited squad list hit in our fitness level dropped in last 10 mins conceding 3 goals. Final score losing 6-3. Score line didn't reflect the game boys played superb and many moments of class just unlucky with our injuries

Parents motm went to George E

Mangers motm went to

Luke

Goals from

Floyd, Archie and Kyle

U14 Panthers match report

U14 Panthers were very unfortunate to go down 4-3 away to Hiltingbury, in a game we really should have won. The boys did go two goals down, after missing a host of chances, but did respond through Matthew Riordan to come in at half time with the score 2-1. The boys then dominated the start of the second half and Matthew added his second of the game, and then took the lead through a superb run and finish by Jared Grant. However, the game turned on its head through a free kick, and then a poor communication error meant the boys found themselves 4-3 down. Despite pushing hard for a late equaliser, but boys were unable to respond. Matthew and Lukah both put in great performances for the team.

U15 Spitfires had a disappointing day losing 4-0 away to Littleton Lightning . We missed a penalty @ 1-0 and game turned on this with 2 quick goals to put us 3 behind. The boys battled hard and the 2nd half was a massive improvement but the damage was done on the 1st half. POM went to Braydon Morgan in goal who made some great saves and unlucky to have conceded 4 as never his performance deserved more.

We go again next week.

U16 Girls JPL

Millwall 4

AFC Stoneham 2

In their first game in the JPL the Stoneham girls were away to Millwall Lionesses and definitely made an impression. The Purps came flying out the blocks and dominated the first 20 minutes with the Millwall keeper pulling off a couple brilliant saves but as another chance was saved it went out for a corner. We took true advantage and scored! End to end thriller of a game, with another goal coming from Izzy. Millwall however played some very good football and fought back hard.

A fantastic game of football, with credit to both teams.

Final score:

Millwall 4 AFC Stoneham 2

U16 United

U16 Utd started their season this morning with a 3-1 home win against Hythe & Dibden. MotM was Tom Clarke.

AFCS Utd 3 - 1 Hythe & Diben

Aga-In

Montenegro

Clarke

U16 Panthers

“How did we lose that?” was all you could hear from every player and parent as the season opener against Winsor ended for the U16 Panthers in a 1-0 defeat.

An evenly contested first half was followed by almost complete domination in the second. Led with determination and drive by new skipper Cammy, with every member of the squad playing their part in a strong, hi intensity performance that shows we have a season to really look forward to.

A team performance that deserved and will achieve more was built on the foundations of an impressive performance by the whole defensive unit, with strong debuts by Liam Roles and Luke, backed up by Oli, Jake Ben and Adam, loudly marshalled by Liam in goal.

And the outcome could and should be have been different if, man of the match Dylan Cross’ shot had gone in off the post instead of rebounding back out.

Looking forward to next week boys

U16 Galaxy

Despite a pretty decent team effort this afternoon, hitting the woodwork 4 times and having 2 cleared off the line, Galaxy were pipped 2-1 by Wyvern. Boyd Mackenzie netted for Stoneham.

Vets

Saturdays game saw us facing Alderbury Vets who were promoted last season. After last weeks disappointing result we had to put it right this week, and we did, winning 11-2. All round good performance and we took our chances. Henry Smith scoring a double hatrick and having to buy the drinks after the game earned himself MOTM.

Our Ladies first team won 6-0 in the FA Cup at Bursledon whilst our ladies development squad drew 1-1 with New Milton.

Great to be back playing and well done to all of our teams !!

#upthepurps

Development squad - Great start!

Hampshire Combination League

Fareham Town 1 AFC Stoneham 6

Our young development squad started their season with an excellent 6-1 away win at Fareham Town on Wednesday .

Goalscorers were Will Hammerton, John Mcormack, Cian Cleary and a second half hat trick from Kevin Ngombi who came off the bench at half time .

The squad of 16 contained 13 current U18 players proving yet again that our structured player pathway is paying dividends at senior level including our current first team squad.

Well done boys on an excellent start to the league campaign .

Saints sign two purples !

The club is delighted to announce that Southampton Football Club have signed two of our young players in recent days.

Kayleigh Buckingham and Mia Flood have joined up with Saints at their world class facilities in Marchwood training most nights during the week and playing matches at weekends

Both girls have progressed through our U16 and U18 age groups whilst Kayleigh is the youngest player ever to score in a senior match for the club just after her 16th birthday.

The girls are pictured below in their new Saints kit with U18 manager ,Ben Pack, and Head Coach Alisia Buckingham.

Whilst we are sad to see them move on we are also immensely proud to have played a part in their football journey which we will continue to follow with great interest .

We very much hope that Kayleigh and Mias progress will act as an inspiration to all of our young players, both male and female, allowing them to aspire to be the best they can . Anything is possible!

A huge well done to Kayleigh and Mia whilst the whole club wishes you lots of success at Saints .
