Development squad win 4th trophy!!

John Stimpson Memorial Shield Final

Dorchester Town 0 AFC Stoneham 1

Goalscorer: Evans 86

Our young development squad won their 4th trophy of the season in a very good game with a pulsating finish. Both teams played good football throughout the night with our boys just possibly shading the chances created.

As the game was heading for penalties young Isaac Evans headed home a corner with only four minutes of normal time remaining.. Within two minutes Dorchester were awarded a penalty to the dismay of everyone in purple however keeper Ben Godwin pulled off a superb save going to his right and then claimed the rebound setting off delirious celebrations.

The boys saw out the last few minutes to record a huge triumph.

The way the game and season finished was "written in the stars" as the boys lifted a record breaking 4th trophy.

Words can never do justice to either the boys fantastic achievements this season or this final game. Just wonderful !!!!

AFC Stoneham won on penalties

Our development squad starting with eight U18s and another four on the bench won the clubs first ever Hampshire Saturday Trophy in 103 years.

The boys were always the better side however could not turn that superiority into goals and had to face the agony of penalties having equalised through the mercurial Cian Cleary.

Keeper Ben Godwin was the hero with two penalty saves whilst Will Hammerton scored the decisive winning penalty .

The victory sealed the boys third trophy in a record breaking season.

The whole club is immensely proud of their achievements !!

Scorer: Ashley Holland

A well deserved victory tonight in the SDFA Cup final for our Vets with the winning goal from our U8 Hurricanes manager Ashley Holland who also won the man of the match award.

The Vets won the clubs first piece of silverware this season with a controlled and professional performance against a feisty Hamble team.

Oliver Forbes missed two great chances late in the game to widen the winning margin after great work from David Redding.

Well done boys on a superb victory !!

Development squad-Cup winners !!

Hampshire Combination League Cup final

AFC Stoneham 3 v Fareham Town 1

Scorers: James, Gilpin, Ngombi

Our development squad, with nine under 18s starting the game and another three coming on, lifted their first piece of silverware tonight with a convincing 3-1 win over Fareham Town.

Fareham took the lead but two quick goals by James and Gilpin just before half time allowed the boys to control the game until Ngombi broke away on 88 minutes and sealed a great victory.

The boys still have potentially three other trophies to win as the superlatives continue to roll in around this superb team of very young and talented players.

They are all a massive credit to our football club in both the way they play and conduct themselves.

We are all very proud of them.

Well done boys !!

U16 Girls - JPL Champions !!

U16 Girls JPL - League Champions !

A huge congratulations to our U16 Girls Junior Premier League team who won their league yesterday down in Kent having been unbeaten all season with one game remaining.

This season was the first in which our club and the girls had entered the JPL and their success has been awesome whilst firmly putting girls football at AFC Stoneham on the map.

They started the season competing in a pre-season tournament against the likes of Spurs, Millwall and Ipswich Town narrowly losing out to Spurs in the final and have maintained that very high standard of football throughout the season.

A big well done to Paul and Lisa who have led, managed and organised the girls to this great success.

The Girls will aim to be Hampshire County Champions on May 7th to complete a famous double.

The whole team are a massive credit to our club and we are all exceptionally proud of them.

Well done girls !!

Sat/Sun April 9/10 round up

Boys and Girls

Weekend round up

U7 Panthers

Great early game this morning against Millbrook U8 Harriers. The boys were fantastic, closing the players down and supporting each other on the pitch. Their passing and offensive build-up play was also on point and also a step ahead of the opposition. What really stood out today was seeing all of the Panther boys being highly disciplined in their given positions and covering each other's roles when attacking runs were being made from the back. Today's goals came in the form of a brace from Jack, with further goals from Manny, Hayden and Freddie. The Player of the Match went to Manny.

U7 Hurricanes

Great performance and result today for the Hurricanes against Hedge End Rangers. Always a difficult team to play against. Even with a depleted team everyone dug deep and put fantastic effort in to take home the honours.

It was close going in to the last quarter where we were 1 down, but some great football and we managed to turn it around in the last.

Top marks to Rangers, we have played them a few times this season and they always put in a good performance, but more importantly they are a really nice team.

U7 Spitfires and Wolves

A late KO fixture saw a U7 Red 2 Derby game between Spitfires and Wolves with what looked like the biggest crowd of the season and some fantastic support could be heard. The game was a slow burner with both teams cancelling each other out before Wolves capitalised on some loose Spitfire play and a mix up at the back and got themselves in front with 2 goals, Spitfires pulled one back through Donatello to go in 2-1 at half time. Play in the 3rd quarter continued in much the same manner with Wolves extending their lead. Spitfires continued to battle and got back into it with goals from MOM Charlie and Jayden. Before Donatello managed a brace in the 4th to grab his hatrick. The game was played in great spirit with a fantastic atmosphere and we are super proud of all of them #oneclub UTP

U8 Spitfires

U8 Spitfires played Bursledon Stars in our penultimate game of the season in a very physical game. Slow start from the boys and were a few behind at half time but a great 2nd half performance got us back in the game but sadly just ran out of time. Goals were scored today by Elliott Finch who reacted to a blocked shot and then Adriano Philips scored direct from a free kick after brushing himself off after being fouled. Goal of the game went to POM Alfie Bungay who rounded off a great performance with a bullet header from a corner but prior to this smashed the crossbar from near on the half way line, some power. Well done Spitfires for the fight today.

U8 Panthers

Well done today boys. From start to finish you gave us everything. The passing, movement and just player awareness was a joy to watch. What pleased me more wasn’t the result, but the way we scored our goals, total football! We need to take that into next season!

David as always, solid in goal, with the occasional sweeper keeper role adopted. James and Oliver were rocks at the back with some important tackles and off the line interceptions.

Ollie and Lucas were excellent in midfield, breaking up play and moving the ball. Henry and Harry were terrific battling, running with the ball and shooting. Both getting a brace.

Harry was also unlucky with his header. Jenson was all over the pitch today, physically strong and with great feet and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself. But my man of the match went to the whole team! They all played their part today and throughout the season as a team. Working for each other and never give up attitude. Well done all of you today.

U9 Girls

Under 9 girls played away at Chineham this lovely sunny morning and continued our great progress through the season with another positive result.

Another quick start saw us score 2 without reply in each of the first 2 quarter's.

The 2nd half played against an extra player and we still managed 2 more in each quarter with Chineham getting one in each.

Goalscorers today were Seren with 4, 2 from Chloe and singles from Diya and Serayah.

Some of tye best football we have played on display today with passing. An all round team performance.

Opposition girl of the game went to Diya and ours went to Matilda for a fantastic energetic performance and some brilliant crosses into tye box.

Well done girls and happy easter

U10 Panthers

City Rubies 3

AFC Stoneham Panthers 1

An away trip in Portsmouth to finish the season without a couple of the regular players was always going to be difficult and so it proved.

City Rubies took the lead in the first quarter and only a couple of saves from Abigail kept them in the game.

The Panthers missed several chances in the second quarter before equalising in the third quarter. A Jess H corner found Jess P on the edge of the box who beat the keeper with a fine effort.

City Rubies took the lead soon after when the striker was left to run in on goal and went 3-1 up with a similar goal.

Both teams gave the players sweets and donuts after the game (thank you Imogen’s parents).

Promotion at Christmas and only 2 defeats in the new division is something the girls and their parents should be proud of.

Away team POM - Jess P

Parents POM - Abigail

Managers POM - Rosie

U10 Phoenix

The girls were outstanding today; moving, passing into space, keeping shape and holding positions; everything we’ve worked on in training just came together today. Couldn’t ask for anything more than this which gave us a 5-1 victory. Bring on the last league game of the season on the 30th. Up the Phoenixes, up the purps!!!

U10 Spitfires

A battling performance saw the U10 Spitfires run out winners today against a strong Totton and Eling team. Stoneham went 1-0 up early in the first quarter with a goal from Freddie. Totton then scored two goals in quick succession in the second quarter. Stoneham rediscovered their battling spirit in the third and fourth quarters with Alfie scoring the equaliser, Bushy scoring the third and Freds making it safe by scoring his second. A couple of long range free kicks threatened the Spitfires in the final quarter. As with two weeks ago against the same team, Charlie and James stood out for the Spitfires for their persistent pressing, and work rate winning the ball back. Man of the match went to James for this and for motivating the team.

U10 Wolves

This was a game of two halves!

Faced with being asked to play fluid tactics that were new to some of the team, it was a case of could the rest of the Wolves adapt by remembering their learning from several weeks previous and inspire their teammates.

Teamwork and understanding were fortunately on show with Fuku leading on the pitch by helping others with positioning while still making his dribbles and forward passes from his best position of central midfield. Support play on both wings was good and the tracking back by Noah from his position in attack was so exceptional he looked like he had run a 5k race after just one quarter. At the back, Harry, Dash and Eesa were applying good pressure to opponents each time they took shots which, whenever still on target, would be superbly saved by Reuben. Reuben got all his angles right today, helped by a starting position of slightly nearer the edge of his area.

Following half-time assurances that everyone was doing the right thing, the shooting accuracy suddenly went up several notches led by first Fuku and Noah then Oskar P and Harry. Oskar's goalward flick from a Harry corner was a particular delight! In defence, Jude became momentary hero with a goal line block from a fierce shot after giving up his left midfield position to Rivers who had an exceptional game for the second week in a row.

The second half confidence was especially high because Reuben had been in such top form in the first, applying his learning from training and maintaining a high level of concentration throughout, for which Reuben has become our Wolf of the Week

U11 Tigers

The Tigers travelled to Fawley Falcons with the bare 9 players and found themselves 2-0 down at half time.

However they showed great team spirit and togetherness, with no lack of skill, to roar back into a 3-2 lead which they held onto to recording a hard fought and very well deserved victory .

Goalscorers were Spencer (2) and Miles. Spencer and Alfie shared Man of the Match .

Well done boys and parents !

U12 Panthers

Under 12 panthers cup run unfortunately came to an end today with a 3-1 defeat at Hedge End United in the semi finals today.

Hedge End deserved the win.

We took an early lead through Sam White and had a few opportunities to increase it in a cagey start to the game.

Hedge End grew into it and scored 3 goals to take a lead.

We kept knocking on the door but weren't able to score the goals we needed to get back into the cup tie.

Some disappointed lads at the end of the game but finishing league runners up and getting to a cup semi final is something we all would have taken at the start of the season

U12 Spitfires

Spitfires played a league arranged friendly against Sholing Reds. Played on the Stadia in the glorious sunshine sadly lost 5-2 but was a good game by both teams. Charlie Maguire stepped up in goal again and played a blinder pulling off some great saves. Couple of mistakes found us behind but a good fight back saw Mikail Field score with a bullet header from a pinpoint Will ‘Beckham’ Lakin corner. 2nd half was a great contest with some excellent football played by both and Sholing took a 5-1 lead, although the score was a bit flattering for how the game was. Ethan Cripps pulled a goal back with a sweet strike from outside box. POM went to Ethan Roache who was making his 1st appearance for the Spitfires and got stronger as the game went on with some great touches, tackles and some excellent passing. Well done. Happy Easter to u all.

U16 Girls JPL

After a long road trip to Kent the U16 JPL girls continued their unbeaten league run this season. They have now maintained 14 wins and one draw this season!!

After a slow start the goals finally came, first from Molly from a fantastic run down the wing!! Followed by goals from Kyla, Dakota, Jamie and Aimee. Another clean sheet for the defence who have been outstanding all season.

Not only did this seal our unbeaten run but we were confirmed Junior Premier League winners!!! Amazing first season in the league.

A huge congratulations to all the girls and coaches for their hard work and amazing team spirit.

Well done to everyone on some amazing performances, results, league titles and cup finals wins over the last few days !!
