Sunday 27th March round up

Sunday Round Up

U8 Panthers

Excellent game today boys. After the last 3 disappointing results, we really needed to get back to winning ways, and boy, didn’t we respond well. Goals galore. A total dormant performance. I don’t think they could cope with our high press and general organisation. David pulled of some great saves in goal, with some brave diving at their feet. Oliver and James defended well today, against some strong attackers.

Ollie and Harry was great in midfield and attack and both managed to get on the scoresheet. Henry was excellent in midfield controlling play, with some lovely diagonal passing and also scored a goal. Lucas was terrific today, up and down the pitch, tackling and passing. And all that hard work paid off with 4 goals. But my man of the match went to the ‘goat’ Jenson. His energy, workrate and determination was outstanding. He bagged himself 6 goals today with one of them being a glancing headed goal!! Well done Jenson. Well done everyone today. You thoroughly deserved your haribo win bonus!!

U8 Spitfires

U8 Spitfires were excellent today in a physical game against Winsor and got back to winning ways. Alfie Bungay was a handful today and got himself the matchball as was deadly in front of goal. Brody Hibberd was lethal in front of goal too and Henry Polkinghorne scored from the half way line. POM was a awarded to our super supporting Mums (pic attached) today as it’s their day and the boys won for them but special mention must go to Alfie Bungay who was amazing.

U9 Royals vs Romsey Town Tigers

The Royals were on top form today, and put up their most impressive team performance this season. Oakley and Lucas were a driving force down the wings taking players on for fun and putting some great crosses in to the box. Dexter, Dan and Jafha all had solid games in midfield and controlled the game. Although the lads were on fire going forward, Leo had to be a rock at the back putting in some big tackles to deny Romsey. The Romsey attack was also on great form and would’ve scored more if it wasn’t for Archer making brilliant saves, the highlight being a low save down to his right that everyone thought was in! Goals came from Jafha, Leo and and Hat-trick hero Mikaile who was excellent in front of goal, even scoring one with his face!

A great game to watch and and unbelievable performance, well done boys

U10 Jaguars

Wellow warriors vs AFC Stoneham Jaguars u10’s

With only 7 players available today we knew we would have to adjust our shape to suit our team.

1st quarter

The Jaguars went off like a steam train,

With Egit scoring a quick goal.

Wellow came back at us but with our new defender Billy blocking, tackling,

And just in complete control at the back made it hard for them to really have any changes.

2nd quarter

More of the same.Alex running his socks off all around the pitch I don’t think there was a position he didn’t play in today, he also saw himself on the score sheet with a solo run and a tidy finish.

3rd quarter

We was in complete control of the game passing our way around the pitch, we made some really good plays and got our rewards with billy setting up a fantastic team move.

4th quarter

Wellow pushed us hard but we we do what we do best and shut the door. Our captain Alex battling for every ball never giving up.

Well done Jaguars 5-2 win

U10 Spitfires

A 1-1 draw today between two teams who played some good football despite the poor pitch. The Under 10 Spitfires went one nil up early with a long range effort from Bushy. Totton and Eling then had the better of the first quarter. After a good goal from Totton the Spitfires settled and nullified the away team’s attack. Both teams had chances throughout the game, with both keepers playing well. A couple of battling performances from Charlie and James stood out, with Charlie getting MoM for tracking back and making some strong tackles. Overall a good game to watch with both teams doing well to control the ball and continue to try and pass the ball on a bobbly pitch.

U11 Panthers

U11 Panthers had an excellent game today, against tough opposition who proved difficult to break down. Despite a positive result we spurned several chances to make it far more comfortable than the score line suggested. Great battling in midfield and a great defensive showing laid the foundations for some excellent play going forward. Man of the match was Fin Ashton for a great display in defence. Well done Panthers

U12 Panthers

Under 12 Panthers won 3-1 today away to Winsor Green in our cup quarter final.

The boys started brilliantly and too a deserved 2 nil leading the first 15 mins with a goal from Isaac and a Sam Warner penalty that was won through great work from Isaac.

Winsor pulled a goal back but we quickly went back up the other end to restore our 3 goal lead through Sam White pressing the defence from a goal keep nicking the ball and slotting the ball home.

The 2nd half was goalless and at times a bit nervous for those of us coaching and I'm sure the parents watching.

Some great performances today and MOTM went to Zach who was a driving force in the midfield and pur in some crunching tackles.

Well done boys now to look forward to the Semi finals

U14 Knights

U14 Knights were unlucky to lose 1-0 away against Hamble Spitfires conceding with the last kick of the game. Very unlucky as didn't deserve to be on the losing side due to the hard work each and every player put in. No subs and the physicality of the game meant the boys had to dig in and work their socks off for 70 minutes. Brilliant performance.

MOM, again could have gone to everybody today, but just for his constant battling, strength and determination Brad has my vote. Boys have been superb this season in a very tough league and all should be proud of what they have achieved.

U15 Spitfires

Spitfires ended their season on the losing end against Littleton Reds, 5-2. In a game I thought we were the better team it was frustrating we lost but never took our chances whereas our opponents did. Braydon Morgan pulled off some great saves throughout and special mentions to Cameron Houston and Joe Webb who were brilliant today. Both our goals were assisted by Tristan Sparkman with the 1st being swept home by our captain Owen Leece after some great play. The 2nd goal was a little more easier for Ollie Payne who bundled home from 2 yards. Chance came and went but just couldn’t get back in it. Well played boys in a difficult season. POM went to Owen Leece who enjoyed his new role in midfield.

U16 Galaxy

Galaxy's good run of form continued this afternoon with another 2-0 victory this afternoon against visitors Sholing White.

The defence again played very well as a unit but the purps were unable to break the opposition down until 2 breakaway goals in quick succession both scored by in-form striker Davi De Paula.

Keiran Kandiah picks up the mom award forward today with yet another fine display

Up the purps

U16 Panthers

With two games left of the season U16 panthers turn their attention to Compton in the league. With the sun shining, on a warm Sunday morning panthers put on a show for the crowed coming out 7-0 winners. It was a solid team performance From back to front, every player showed their class today with some great football being played.

MOTM Luke

Josh ,Dizzy 2 ,Jude ,Liam R , Billy , Owen

Well done to all of our teams!

Saturday 26th March round up

Saturday Round Up

U7 Spitfires

U7 Spitfires turned in their best performance of the season against a good Hamble team. Spitfires have been working hard on the training ground in the week and it was great to see them put it into practice on matchday. Spitfires were straight at it with a double from Donatello and Joey either side of a Hamble goal in the first quarter. The second quarter was uneventful with both teams cancelling each other with impressive defensive work by both sides and some great saves by the Hamble keeper. Half time tweaks to the team saw Donatello score a third quarter hatrick and it was all Spitfires again in the last quarter with Joey completing a deserved hatrick, Finley getting the pick of the goals with some unbelievable team passing before casually passing past the keeper and Donatello getting another. Very tough to give player of the match today as they all played so well but Archie stood out for being so composed at the back and a defensive rock took it

U7 Hurricanes

Hurricanes U7 had a tough game against Fawley Falcons Eagles. On a glorious Saturday in the sun it was Fawley who took an early lead in the second quarter, ending it two up going in to half time. But the Hurricanes channeled their disappointment and played an unbelieveable third quarter, scoring 4 goals, ending the third 4-2. A tight encounter in the final quarter but some great defending and positional play from the Hurricanes, we finished the game 5-3 winners.

The team continue to grow and they demonstrated great passing and structure today.

Top marks to Fawley, who are a great team and didnt make it easy for us.

Gosport Borough Whites Girls U10 1

AFC Stoneham Panthers U10 3

An excellent win for the Panthers on a rock hard, bumpy pitch.

After 2 goalless quarters, the Panthers took the lead in the 3rd quarter when Aimee scored her first goal for the club with a nice finish. Every girl in the squad has now scored this season!

Jess P scored two long range goals in the final quarter to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead before the hosts scored a consolation late on.

U11 Girls Pumas

Big well done to the girls late night, early kick off, rough pitch, first half tired sleepy lack lusted, not playing as a team, poor passes, hot potato football 1 nil down half time we had a gentle chat and told them to simply play football & work as a TEAM Help each other out.

We struggled to get onto the corners in the Danger Zone every time in the first half everyone flew by us, second half we rearranged how we did it not one corner was wasted we attacked it from the back of the box and it worked

Well done to Roxy for playing almost as a central midfield still needed you to help defend and you scored a cracking goal

Well done to Sophie my player of the match had a little moan she was playing out of position but switched it about and played simple football

Well done to Lauren always trying to give 100% and what a cracking free kick

we need to learn to mix it up, which is what we will do in training but was brilliant to watch we were commended on the way we passed the ball about how we pressed we were a class above in the second half Well done all

Big thanks to AFC portchester great hosts great bunch of girls and fantastic game

4-1 win

U13 girls match report

Away to AFC Portchester for the girls today.

A tough encounter with a loud home crowd and a physical opposition to match. We soaked up pressure really well and counter attacked with pace all game.

On 15 mins, Lillie Banks broke through on the left cut inside and struck a beauty in the near corner 0-1 Purps.

Then we got caught a little ball watching as Portchester managed to grab a goal with a nice finish into the bottom corner. 1-1.

Then put danger girl all game broke through again on the left and this time sent a brilliant finish over the GK into the far corner. 1-2 Purps at HT.

Second half much of the same, and then the moment of the game as Lillie this time playing right wing took on the left full back and smashed an incredible strike high over the GK into the top corner for 1-3 Purps.

We saw out the game until and unfortunate penalty right at the end for 2-3.

A great battling win to bounce back from defeat last time out.

AFC Portchester 2-3 AFC Stoneham

U14 Knights

U14 Knights playing up a year in the U15 Testway Div 2 lost 2-0 to Chalke Valkey away this morning

Although Stoneham were the better footballing side the boys couldn't find a way to get past the bus chalke parked for pretty much the entire game. Deserved more just couldn't break through their defence.

MOM goes to Oliver as was superb with his tackling and was excellent in breaking down their counter attacks.

Well done to all of our teams !

Development squad - Four senior debuts

The highlight of the two recent games against Alresford Town and Baffin Milton Rovers were the senior debuts of four of our development squad which, again, highlights the excellent player pathway the club has created.

Isaac Evans, Jan Blazicek , George Ockwell and Kieran James all started over the two games to mark their senior debuts for the club.

Our development squad has only one objective which is to support good young players making the transition from youth football to adult football. The debuts of Issac, Jan, George and Kieran gave us all far more satisfaction than winning a cup or league in honesty. That is not to say we do not like winning a cup or a league occasionally as well !!

The club has invested a lot of time and money into our development squad over the last few seasons to ensure that our young players can play at the best level possible even if that means utilising our club as a springboard to a higher level.

Well done to our development squad and particularly to the four new debutants.

New Managers and Coaches wanted!

Our club is growing at a very fast rate from 9 teams some 6 years ago to 76 today with further substantial growth predicted for season 2022/23.

Our fantastic new home ground in Stoneham Lane, with both grass and 3G pitches, plus our structured player pathway for both boys and girls have been important factors in this growth aligned to a “one club” philosophy allowing the club to provide football for beginners right through to players who move into professional clubs academies.

AFC Stoneham now have over a 1000 players and hopefully play a positive part in our local community.

We now need more managers and coaches to support this growth and become excellent role models for our young children. If interested please do contact 07841696579 or chairman@afcstoneham.co.uk for an informal chat.

Saturday 12th Feb round up

Saturday Round Up

U7 Spitfires

U7 Spitfires played Winchester City Youth in the early KO at Stoneham Park. In contrast to last week, the boys were quickly at it in the first quarter and scored 3 through Donatello to take the lead. Winchester battled back and grabbed a couple of goals before Asher restored the lead in the second quarter, and the Spitfires went in at halftime a goal up. Winchester came back out fired up and managed 2 goals either side of a great goal from Charlie from a well worked corner. Spitfires went to sleep in a mad 2 min spell conceeding 3 goals, which did see them pick their energy levels up, and Jayden got one back. MOM today went to Alfie for his work rate breaking up Winchester attacks!

U9 Girls

Under 9 girls clearly had their weetabix this morning as we welcomed Winchester City Flyers to Stoneham Lane this morning.

A quick start to the game game us the upper hand that we managed to keep in this 8 goal goal.

Our scorers today were Seren with a hattrick for the second week running, her second goal being a brilliant finish, Chloe with 2 and a single from Millie-Mae.

Some fantastic football was played when we kept our shape and positions.

Opposition girl of the game was given to Matilda.

Seren for her goals and all round performance won girl of the game for us.

Well done girls

U10 Girls Phoenix

Had a very good 8-1 win

U10 Girls Panthers

AFC Stoneham Panthers 8

Stubbington Swans 0

The Panthers have played some really good football in the last couple of weeks and won this game comfortably.

Hat tricks from Jessica P and Jessica H and goals from Georgia and Emily secured the win.

The most pleasing thing is seeing the development of players who have spent most of the season ‘in the shadows’. Imogen had her best game by far and Rosie has been very good the last couple of weeks.

What a game between 2 very good teams. The girls fought from start to finish, with amazing play.

Both teams never gave in and battled till the very end. A fair results for both teams.

Goals from Selina 2 and Millie Fear 1

Player Of The Day - Managers Selina for her unbelievable work rate and 2 cracking goals.

Freya Caplen for her solid tackles and organisation.

U12 Panthers V Hartley Wintney

A very good first half, with the Panthers playing some really good football, only the crossbar denying Melina her first of the game. The girls continued to pass and move the ball well, with some great work down the wings. The first goal came in the 15th minute, with Melina scoring her 1st. The girls pushed for a 2nd, but some good defending from the Hartley defenders kept it at 1-0 till half time.

HT 1-0 Panthers

The girls started the second half with the same intensity from the first half, and in the 37th minute Melina got her 2nd of the game, 2 minutes later Melina completed her hat-trick. The girls pushed for more goals, but some great saves from the Hartley keeper kept it at 3-0.

Brilliant team performance.

FT 3-0 Panthers

Opposition player of the match went to Tallulah

Parents player of the match went to Juno

U14 Knights

U14 Knights beat Braishfield Bees 6-0 at home playing up a year in the Testway League Div 2.

Goals were scored by Leo x2, Waseem x 2, Ben & Brandon.

Tough first half performance due to the wind but the boys turned things around in the second half and came out a much better side. MOM was Ben, consistent with moving the ball around and keeping it simple throughout the game. Also scored a nice header from a great delivery from Will.

U16 Girls JPL

On a very cold morning in Sutton Scotney AFC Stoneham U16’s JPl girls played Andover new Street in the Hampshire cup semi-final. It was a hard fought game with the wind being a contributing factor, however Stoneham took an early lead with a goal from Kayleigh Maishman in the first five minutes. However Andover were quick to respond on the attack to level the game up. unfortunately AFC Stoneham backed off and Andover got a goal from the break to go 2-1 up. AFC Stoneham U16’s battled hard and got an equaliser from Kayleigh Marshman just before half time. With 10 minutes to go and both teams battling hard AfC Stoneham finally got the chance from a cross for Molly Gladwell to header the winner home.

Taking the Under 16 JPL girls into the Hampshire cup final!! 💜🙌💜🙌

Well done to all of our teams and especially our U16 Girls JPL in reaching the County Cup final.

Sunday round up

U10 AFC Stoneham Jaguars

1st quarter

In very cold and windy conditions the boys fought hard, attacking and defending but couldn’t break Winsor down.

2nd quarter

Saw us take an early lead with Billy opening the scoring and then Egit added another goal. Some really good defending on show today from Oliver. He made it hard for the opponents to make any chances working his socks off.

3rd quarter

We settled down and started to play some really good football. Unfortunately we left the door open slightly and Winsor managed to pull one back. The Jaguars put their foot on the gas again and added 2 more goals.

4th quarter

More of the same by the Jag’s. The defence kept everything together with some really good communication. The strikers were hungry for more and added another two goals. This saw us round off a very comfortable win.

U10 Panthers

Great performance from the team today, against a very good Fleming Athletics. The Weather was against us, but no one gave up and battled against the wind and the rain, making for a great result.

Scorers: Millie Fear, Ollie Ransom, Henry Cordall

Player Of The Day goes to Jamie Henderson for some outstanding saves and his positioning for when the ball was in his box.

U12 Panthers

Under 12 panthers played another 11 a side friendly today to prepare for stepping up to that next season away at Hedge End United in dreadful conditions.

We came out 5-4 winners scoring the winning goal with the last kick of the game.

It really should have been more comfortable as we were by far the better team but injuries meant we finished the game with 9 against 11.

Goalscorers today were Sam White with the first 4 before Joey Gibson scored our decisive 5th.

Pitch was heavy and hard work with some good performances.

Man of the match went to Sam White for not only his goals from midfield but some tremendous tracking back and timely tackles

U16 United

Salisbury 2 - 5 United

U16 Panthers

Football is a team game as today proved with the U16 Panthers putting in a performance that belied the wind, rain and a sodden, muddy sloping pitch, to return to winning ways with a 3-1 victory against Compton FC.

More accurately perhaps with this side, it’s a squad game and just as enjoyable as the final scoreline was the return to action of Ehren Cox and Owen Diver after long term absences, adding yet more quality to the team.

The boys raced into the lead with Dylan Cross rounding the keeper to score (or was it Josh Marks .. the debate’s ongoing) inspite of the best efforts of Compton defenders with the first of many challenges that were a feature of the match.

A strong first half performance ensued, but it wasn’t until the second half that captain Cameron Churcher doubled the advantage, latching onto a sublime through ball to score with a calm, classy finish, only bettered by his JWP celebration.

The opposition then stepped things up, asking Liam Small to dive smartly to his right making a two handed save. After further pressure and another save, they managed to halve the deficit, but that proved to be it, with Panthers restoring their two goal advantage with another goal from Jude Cowan.

In summary a great squad performance, as just as important as the goals was the determined work of the defensive team and tireless/ creative work of the midfield unit. Well done boys!

Man of the Match - Jacob Keyse (that “shot” aside )

Finally ,well done to our U16 Athletic team who reached the semi finals of the county cup beating Moordown from Bournemouth 5-1

Saturday round up

U7 Spitfires played Totton Youth Tigers in the Saturday morning early fixture, and the team was still half asleep at KO and were 2 goals down within 3 mins, the shock soon woke everyone up and the boys battled hard to go in at the break on level terms and after a pretty uneventful second quarter the game really got going after the half time break Asher scored a great goal from outside the box with his weaker foot before Totton managed to grab another couple of goals the turning point of the game was the rocket of a shot by Donnatello that the Stoneham first team keeper would not have stopped, to bring it back level..... Jayden managed to grab the winner after some great passing play! Alfie and Archie were immense and battled for everything with Joey and Charlie the teams main outlets. MOM went to Wilf, though, for saving a number of one on ones, great diving saves, and managing to tip a great freekick onto the crossbar! We are all so proud at how far these boys have come in their first season of football.... Go Spitfires!

U9 Girls

Under 9 girls played away at sunny Ringwood this morning, almost tropical compared to our last trip down.

The girls played amazingly and after a goalless first quarter clicked into gear as the game went on.

Our goalscorers today were Seren with a treble and Matilda.

When we got the ball down and play our football we looked brilliant.

Girl of the game went to Chloe for her all action display in midfield, some amazing passes and great tracking back and tackling too.

Opposition girl of the game went to Millie H in goal for some fine saves to keep a clean sheet.

Well done girls you were as brilliant as always.

Hampshire Cup Semi Final

Mudeford 1 - 9 AFC Stoneham U10 Pumas

Great result for the team today, securing our third consecutive Hampshire Cup final appearance and the opportunity to be Hampshire champions three years in a row.

In the end it was a comfortable win and an opportunity for several players to play in new positions. In the end 6 players got on the scoresheet today (Abbi, Erin, Lauren, Layla & Phoebe), a semi final goal is always a nice memory. Abbie grabbed herself a hat-trick plus 1 despite mainly playing on the wing.

However, the performance wasn’t just about goals, we passed really well and moved the ball really quickly. Our best phases of play started with our defenders being decisive in possession. Roxy & Amelie kept making great decisions which secured them the MoM trophies.

Sophie and Phoebe both showed great composure in possession and in midfield Nancy and Layla put in great performances and were a constant threat.

Our wide players were really dangerous today and our delivery out wide was superb, well done Martha, Aaliyah and Abbie. We targeted scoring goals from crosses and 5-6 came from this

In attacking areas we played loads of combinations with Erin and Lauren combining well, scoring and making goals.

Felt like last season with such a comprehensive win, we are used to really tough battles in the league, so it was a nice relaxed Saturday morning.

Well done Pumas, finalists again, time to get the job done

AFC Stoneham Panthers U10 2 Waltham Wolves 2

Panthers won on penalties

Against opposition from the Division above, the Panthers worked really hard as a team and kept their concentration against a team that played some really good, passing football.

After a goalless first quarter, the Panthers took the lead when a Jessica H corner went into the goal with a deflection off the keeper.

The Panthers went 2-0 up seconds into the 3rd quarter when Jessica H won the ball from the opponents kick off and found the top corner from outside the box.

Waltham Wolves pulled a goal back when a weak effort was judged to have crossed the line and then equalised in the final quarter with an unstoppable shot.

A thoroughly enjoyable game and in the penalty shootout at the end, the Panthers won after Abigail saved a penalty and Jess P netted the winner.

Special mention to a Mirela’s who got off her sick bed to play half the game.

Well that’s us through to the Final of the Plate Cup! well done team!

A lovely opposition to play today who were a credit to their club!

The first quarter saw a slow start and level ish playing field although we were dominating and had most possession…

Into the second and third quarters we picked up pace with fresh legs and the opposition with no subs so they were tiring quickly up and down the pitch trying to catch our girls…

The pitch was tough going today and was basically solid mud with a few shoots of green substance on top which made our girls really work hard..

A well deserved win with almost double figures but off side disallowed.

Millie and Pheobe players of the day! Well done!

U14S EAGLES

CUP SEMI FINAL v WCF KITES

UNBELIEVABLE effort and performance from our girls, who went into this game as massive underdogs.

We absolutely dominated the first half, first to every ball and quick to press and shut down WCF play. With a player short in our usual attacking formation we were still able to threaten the WCF goal and eventually got our deserved reward on 33' after a crucial interception from our keeper Leya and throughball caught the WCF defence napping, and Priya striking home to take us in at half time 1-0 up.

WCF came at us with everything 2nd half, forcing some magnificent saves from Leya. We held them with only 10 minutes to go but couldn't stop them finding the back of the net and equalising on 60'. 1-1.

It was Stoneham who looked like finding a second goal thereafter, with Elvin coming close and being denied a penalty after being pushed and pulled off the ball by 2 WCF defenders right in front of goal.

The girls NEVER quit and deserved a full time result, but were now facing their first ever penalty shoot out.

WCF were able to put away one more penalty than us to see them through to the final, counting their lucky stars no doubt! So proud of our girls who stood up to a very strong County 1 team and turned plenty of heads today!

We wish Wayne and the WCF Kites the best of luck in the final!

U14 Knights

The U14 Knights beat Braishfield Bees away 9-0 playing up a year in the Testway League Div 2. Goals were from Brad (10’), Waseem x 4 (12’, 15’, 17’, 20’), Jared (23’), Elliot (40’) and Brandon (57’ and 68’).

Great first half performance, dominating the ball, creating chance after chance. Second half the intensity dropped but continued to dominate possession and came out clear winners. Will S given MOM for his determination and quality of his deliveries into the front 2 which made it a nightmare for the opposition to defend against.

Well done to all of our teams especially those girls teams who progressed to cup finals and our U14 Eagles who sadly lost a penalty shootout to higher league opposition

Sunday Round Up

U7 Panthers

Clean sheet for the U7 Panthers today, best performance since they moved up. Again, the whole team made it on to the score sheet including hat-tricks from Jack and Hayden, and further great goals from Freddie, Cooper, Manny and Logan. Fraser kept some goals out from the opposing team and utilised the players that had space around them when passing back out to the field. During the 3rd/4th quarter break spectators were privy to some ball juggling skills from the Referee. Player of the Match went to Jack today for not only his goal scoring in the first quarter but also his disciplined performance when asked to go in defence. Great game for Panthers!

U10 Spitfires

A great performance by the U10 Spitfires today who remained positive and disciplined throughout their 4-2 win. They continued to stick to their passing game and were rewarded with three goals from Bushy and a great individual goal from Freddie. Man of the match was again very difficult to decide with everyone playing so well, with Zach being awarded the trophy for positive runs forward with the ball.

U8 Spitfires

U8 Spitfires continued their recent good form in an excellent performance against Hedge End Rangers. Some really great passing by all the boys today and a couple of goals scored with slick passing and unselfishness. Some good individual performances but generally pleasing team performance. Brody Hibberd, Theo Yaldren, Adriano Philips & Elliott Finch were all on fire in front of goal. POM went to birthday boy Harvey Whyte who was excellent and tried so hard to score which included hitting the bar. Well done ‘mini Spitfires’.

U8 Panthers

Great game today boys. We asked for a high tempo, passing, running off the ball and shooting. And that game had it all. I don’t think Hiltingbury knew what hit them from the start. We were better all over pitch, and thoroughly deserved the convincing win. David pulled off some good saves when required. Oliver and James defended well, with some crunching tackles. Birthday boy Ollie and Henry was excellent in midfield with some great passes and shots, with both getting on the scoresheet. Harry worked his socks off and was unlucky not to score. Jenson was on fine form with some great runs and shooting, and grabbed himself 4 goals. But my man of the match went to Lucas. His tackling, passing and moving was a delight to watch and he also scored from a pass and move drill. Well done Lucas. Well done all of you. You all deserved the trophy today.

Final score 7-3 win!

U9 Spitfires

Another dominant performance from the boys today against the AFC Stoneham Panthers. The team welcomed back a couple of players who had been off with Covid.

We were quickly in to our passing game and as the match progressed, the goals flew in.

A tough decision for man of the match, as everyone played well, in the end the honour went to our superb keep Jake.

Goals for Jakub 2, Tomo 2 and Alfie 1. Well done boys!

U10 Wolves

Just nine weeks ago we suffered our heaviest defeat of the season to today's opponents. Seven of the Wolves who played that day played again today and this time we won!

This is great development.

It was class on the grass as the Wolves showed that teamwork wins matches. Midfielders were the key to this by supporting both the attack and defence in a formation that most of today's players are now suited to. Tyler continued his good form by making himself available, attacking down the wing, beating defenders and creating chances with low passes or crosses, Oskar Z covered well behind the overlapping runs of Dash, Charlie is reading the game well by covering behind defenders Jude and Dash and supporting the attack with effective dribbling and improved positioning, while Rivers is enjoying life on the left providing box-to-box support.

Another hat-trick! Another different player!

Today it was Noah who kept the scorer busy with an outstanding performance that included accurate shooting, high pressing, tracking back to defend inside his own area and a strong display of stamina in covering most areas of a very heavy pitch.

Whenever his fellow defender was advancing, "indomitable Dominik" was holding everything together at the back against good strikers. Helped also by Reuben's excellent save from a free kick, defending from the front by Oakley and a captain's performance from Finn who also seemed to cover every blade of grass, the Wolves went 59 minutes without conceding until the last kick of the game. But Noah is still our hero of the hour and proud Wolf of the Week. Congratulations Noah and to all the Wolves for 3 wins in a row.

U10 Jaguars

AFC Stoneham Jaguars v Hedge End U10's

A steady start today against a very good Hedge End side saw the Jags go in level after the first quarter. Our defence holding solid with everyone doing exactly as we had practised in training.

Going into the 2nd quarter the whole team started to gel together and with increased effort it wasn't long before we had taken the lead with 2 well taken goals from Sammie and Egit.

Onto the 2nd half and again we continued to push forward and were rewarded with more goals from the mighty duo.

This was backed up with outstanding performances from Anderson between the sticks who totally owned his area with great communication along with some fantastic stops and a clean sheet and Riley B in defence who didn't stop running throughout the game and made numerous interceptions then provided great outlet balls up field.

A great game from the Jags who continue to impress with every game.

U12 Spitfires

U12 Spitfires played away to Whiteley Wanderers in the Tyro Cup on a very frozen 4G pitch. After an excellent couple of performances today was not just our day as we lost 6-1. Score line flatters our opposition but credit to them for taking their chances. Our solitary goal was scored by Harry Halligan with a looping shot from outside the box. POM went to Harley Marjason who kept battling to the end and very vocal on the pitch in trying to lift the boys.

U12 Panthers

Under 12 panthers progressed to the next round of the Tommy Traynor Tyro Trophy with a 5 nil win at home to Winsor White.

It was a comfortable game for the boys whole got a bit lazy at times.

When we got the ball down and kept moving it about we did well.

Goalscorers were Isaac with 2 and singles for Jake, Sam Warner and Liam.

Shout out to the Winsor keeper who played a blinder.

Man of the match went to Joseph who put in a good shift and proved his versatility in playing 3 different positions and doing very well in all of them

U14 Knights

U14 Knights lost 6-3 away against Hurstwood Rangers in the Hampshire Cup. Goals were scored by Adrian and Ewan x 2.

The MOM was Adrian- he won his midfield battles all game, composed on the ball, played some great passes and scored a quality free kick.

A frustrating game for the boys as we were always in the game but errors on our side cost us goals in the end. Boys battled really well, hung in there, played some good football at times and worked for each other wherever they had to play. Just got to learn from today and we go again next week.

U15 Spitfires

U15 Spitfires had a tough day at home to Hamble Club Royals and just lacked a cutting edge going forward. Although we lost 4-0 defensively was good and some great saves from Braydon Morgan in goal. On another day we could have gone in at half time level but just not our day today. Fitness played its part today only have 1 sub but we will look to bounce back stronger next week. POM went to Owen Leece for a captains performance and chose to push forward into midfield instead of defence and put in a solid display!

Well done to all of our teams and thank you to those who sent match reports in

Girls match round up - 29/1/22

Today's Girls round up

U9 Girls

We welcomed Down Grange Sapphires to Stoneham Lane and it was a fantastically enjoyable game.

Our scorers today were Matilda, Diya and Seren. Clean sheets for the 2 girls who played in goals too.

All the girls were amazing, girl of the game went to Edith for her all energy display on pitch and a quarter in goal.

Chloe was give oppositions girl of the game.

Thanks to the supporters from both teams who were encouraging both teams throughout the game, it was lovely to see such a busy touchline of smiles.

Well done girls

AFC Stoneham Panthers 0-1 Gosport Borough Whites

You know it’s not going to be your day when two of your own players collide heads while jogging across the pitch in the warm up leaving one with a lovely black eye. Hoping Aimee recovers soon.

The game itself was a really tight affair with neither team creating many chances. Georgia made a wonderful save before the Panthers conceded the only goal from the penalty spot.

Brilliant result today and some great football in the second half. If the players focus on passing the ball then good things happen. I thought we were comfortable, showed great patience and scored 3 great goals to win the game.

Lauren’s in-swinging corner got us level, a sweeping penalty kick from Erin put us in the lead before a wonderful finish from Martha secured the victory.

5 different defenders today, 5 different strikers and all but 1 played in midfield. Superb versatility. We also saw plays excelling in different roles which all supports their development.

Trophies today, Abbi J cool & calm in possession, great in the tackle. Managers Player.

Lauren was all-action today in midfield and up front, key role in 2 goals. Opposition player.

Thank you again to our sponsors Parchow Groundworks. We play the best football and look the part

U13 Girls Report

Home vs AFC Portchester

1st half was a scrappy affair, neither team really in control, however Portchester we’re working harder, winning more 50/50 duels and had the better of the final 10 minutes. Chances were at a premium and it finished in a stalemate.

For the first time this year, the girls received some harsh but fair words at half time. They had to work harder out of possession and be calmer in possession, why did Portchester want it more than them…?

Second half, different game, the girls were buzzing, all of sudden we were sprinting, battling and the fight was back! Iris Wakely was there at the right time following up a shot as all good centre forwards do to make it 1-0. It was all Stoneham, the girls were bright and the confidence grew. A cross on from the right found it’s way across to Sophie Freeman, who converted from close range for 2-0. From there we were dominant and it could have been 3 or 4. The girls saw out the game solid as ever at the back and tenacious in midfield. A tremendous second half display.

FT AFC STONEHAM 2-0 AFC Portchester

12 unbeaten… well done girls, a great reaction at half time.

U16 Hampshire League

Another league win under the scorpions belt. A very even match v kingsworthy. Started rusty after no games for 4 weeks. Girls put heart and soul into the game after sitting at 2-2 for a while. Coming away winners at 4-2.

2 Goals from Mia Garwin, one from Katie Babahami and one from Hannah Webb. 6 from 6 now.

A well earnt MOM by Victoria Johnson playing out of position as centre back.

Todays weather conditions were tough to deal with for both teams with the wind gale force influencing the match throughout,

Stoneham lost the toss and had to play against the severe wind in the first halve but handled it superbly by scoring three goals and keeping a clean sheet playing good short passing football, the second half with the wind gave more challenges and made it very difficult to control possession but the girls managed to finish the game 6-1 winners on the road onwards and upwards up the purps

Well done girls !

Sunday Round Up

U7 Panthers

A tough start to today's game as we went a goal down early on, however, this didn't affect the boys motivation and the score was quickly levelled out by a goal from the Panthers. It was evident the strong passing between the Panther players was a challenge for Littleton Juniors U8 Cyclones, as the Panthers continued to score further goals. Some great goals came from Logan, Jack, Hayden, Cooper and Manny. Fred battled with the opposition across the pitch and made some great assists. Our keeper Fraser kept goals at bay with some fantastic saves and some great goal-keeping decisions, which led to him getting Player of the Match.

U8 Panthers

Great game by the boys today.

We played a strong Salisbury side and it was an even match.

It was end to end with both teams having chances. I thought the boys worked their socks off and made up for the last two game performances. And snatched the winner in the last kick of the game.

David was outstanding in goal with some fingertip saves. James and Oliver defended well with some important tackles. Lucas and Ollie worked hard in midfield with some great link-up with others. Ollie also getting on the scoresheet with an accurate penalty.

Henry was back on form and was the driving force in midfield. Harry worked hard with some great crunching tackles defending from the front. But my man of the match went to the matched winner Jenson, he never stopped running and was a nuisance all over the pitch and bagged himself a hat trick inc that last min winner. Well done Jenson, well done all of you for picking yourselves up and the determination.

U10 Wolves

Jubilant January continued for the Wolves as we tamed the Lions in style today.

This encounter always had the potential to be special with the improving Wolves up against a team who are used to playing at a higher level. But confidence has arrived in bus loads! The Wolves now believe in their ability to win and twice came from behind to earn a deserved result.

The boys were regularly overloading both the midfield and attack with passing options from supporting players. The outstanding Fuku was settling quickly into a new central midfield role using both Finn on the left and Adam on the right to set up the hard working Oakley for good attempts at goal.

This was one of Finn's best performances, not just because of his two goals, but for his creativity in attack and the support he gave to Alfie behind him who in turn would venture forward down the left giving excellent support to Finn. On the right, a similar partnership, with Dash whose work in creating havoc every time he approached the Lions' den was always reinforced by the excellent Harry.

Special mentions also to Rayane who has developed calmness and dependability in defence, Reuben who made some key interceptions outside his area, Dominik who was strong as ever and whose positioning was much improved and Oskar P who is now at the top of his form in both midfield and attack.

A knee injury to Dash suddenly allowed Harry an opportunity in right midfield which he grasped with everything he had. The scores were level, play came over from the left, Harry received the ball centrally, dribbled forward taking the goalkeeper to the right before cleverly sliding the ball back across the goalie into the net. Scenes of joy! A winning goal and a winning performance from our Wolf of the Week, Harry!

U10 Royals

The U10 Royals extended their unbeaten run to 8 consecutive games, winning 7 of the games. After conceding our first goal in 5 games, we bounced back with a great goal by Marcus, sliding in and poking it under the diving goalkeeper. We continued to press the opponents, and prevented them from having many clear cut chances. A spectacular corner taken by Harrison ricocheted off of the far post and then off of a defender to put us infront, followed by another quick goal by Zain sealed the deal, taking us to 3/3 wins in the new league! Player’s POTM went to Marcus for his resilience and got his deserved goal, Managers POTM went to Nate for his constant press, and incredible support play when out of possession, as we worked on in training! Up the purps

U10 Spitfires

A battling performance today saw the U10 Spitfires fight back from 3-1 down to win 4-3. The boys showed character after going 3-1 down, trying to maintain their passing game on a tricky pitch, with goals coming from Bushy x2, Charlie and Freds. There were strong performances from Alfie and Zach, with MoM going to goalkeeper Charlie for important saves from several free kicks.

U12 Panthers

Under 12 panthers played a friendly today away to St Francis Rangers who play in the division above us. We played 11 a side in preparation for moving to this next season.

This was the first time the boys have tried it and we haven't worked on it in training but they played fantastically and came out 2-1 winners, and it could have been more comfortable with a little more composure at the right time.

We took the lead early following a goalmouth scramble and the last touch unfortunately came off a St Francis defender. St Francis pulled a goal back but Jake scored a 2nd for us.

The boys showed real grit and determination to get over the line and Ryan made some fantastic saves in goal. The back 4 in particular all played well as did the rest of the boys.

Many of the Match went to Liam for his fantastic positional play at left back, tucking round when needed and being an outlet to help drive us forward.

Well done boys.

U12 Spitfires

U12 Spitfires had a faultless performance at home to BTC Shark winning 2-0. From the start you could see the boys were up for it and battled hard for every ball and the passing was excellent. The boys dominated the 1st half and got the goal their play deserved when Mikail Field sweetly struck from outside the box into the top corner. 2nd half was played much the same in which we dominated but BTC did create the odd chance which we defended well and looked solid. Our 2nd goal came from out of nothing but full credit to Ethan Cripps for chasing down the ball causing both the defender and keeper to panic leaving an open goal which Ethan finished well with his left foot. Every player has a great game today and POM was shared between 2 players today, firstly Ethan Cripps who chased every ball and got a goal he so deserved and secondly to Mikail Field who was all over the pitch and scored a cracker. So proud of these boys today who worked hard with a depleted squad but all round pleased with what a great team they have become.

U13 Panthers

Southside AFC Youth Wolves 2

AFC Stoneham Panthers 5

One of our best games of the season. Some outstanding performances but more importantly a fantastic team effort. We went 2-0 down within 11 mins from Southside’s first real attack of the game and then a penalty.

We then scored two within 5 mins to bring us back to 2-2 by half-time with goals from Jude and Jack.

We went on to another three in the 2nd half - one from Harry, the other two from Jude for his hat-trick!

What a game!

U14 Panthers

Incredibly proud of the 10 boys who battled to 2-2 draw at home to Blackfield & Langley. Despite being well in the game, we came in for half time at 0-2. The second half the boys dominated the majority and scored through Tomi Mengyi. Shortly afterwards Brandon MCclory found an equaliser to earn a well deserved point.

U14 Wolves

Fantastic away day for the boys today, first half was very close either team could have come in on top but was 0-0. After the break and a few changes boys started to turn through the gears and quickly took a 2 goal lead good strong head from Alfie W from a corner quickly followed by 1st for Jayden. Romsey got themselves back in the game from a corner before a fantastic press from up top saw the ball drop to Max to lob the goalie from 35yrds out, boys continued to press well and some lovely through balls spilt Romsey open and allowed Jayden another 2 to complete his hat trick, boys continued to work hard right up to the final whistle which allowed another late goal from Floyd to seal a great victory for the boys. Full time 6-1

Men of the match went to Jayden and Max.

Great team spirit today and some great football played very worthy winners.

U14 Knights

U14 Knights beat Upper Clatford away 12-0 in the Quarter Final of the Testway League Cup. With 6 goals scored in each half there were Hatricks for Ewan & Ben braces for Elliot, Waseem & Will S.

MOM goes to Ewan for a well earnt hatrick. His movement, timing of runs plus some great finishing was brilliant to watch today. Thoroughly deserved.

U14 Royals

U14 Royals got off to a slow start and found themselves 2-0 down at halftime to 2nd in the league Whiteley. We started the second half with a better work ethic and improved attitude. Goals from Daniel Wrycraft and Ashton Pitter saw us back in the game. We continued to create chances but lost our shape and had tired legs in the closing minutes of the game. A goal 3 minutes from time, saw Whiteley take 3 points. A disappointing result after getting back level.

A great team effort, well done Royals.

U16 Panthers

The U16 Panthers returned to action after a 6-week break, picking up where they left off with a 5-0 romp against Southbrook, but it could have been so different.

After the boys started strongly, having a goal ruled out for offside and missing an array of chances, everybody watched, as on a rare attack, the Southbrook forward rounded Liam Small in goal and seemed guaranteed to simply stroke the ball home. However, he hadn’t accounted for Adam Lee, who appeared from nowhere with a phenomenal block; a match saving block, keeping the scores level. Such moments define games and seasons and truth be known, there was only one result from that point onwards.

Positive, free flowing football ensued, and once Sam Holder opened the scoring with a clever back heeled finish, the goals flowed and the eventual score line could have been double what it was. Goals followed from Dylan Cross, Billy Tierling, Jude Cowan and Luke Collins Smith, but just as notable was the effort, attitude and style of play that the whole squad showed until the final whistle. Not the first time that’s been said.

Man of the match could have been awarded to an array of players, but deservedly went to Adam Lee for THAT block.

Well done to all of our youth teams today.

Girls round up

Saturday

A superb day for female football at AFC Stoneham with many great victories!

We have shown the results of our older teams below with our U16 Girls beating Eastleigh 7-1 and our U14 Eagles defeating Stubbington 3-1 to both reach the semi finals of the Hampshire Cup.

The Purps also beat Eastleigh at U14 level with our Lionesses winning 2-0 whilst our U18s defeated Romsey 5-0 both in league matches.

We have highlighted two other great games from Saturday which illustrate yet again the huge progress the club is making around girls football.

U11 Girls

AFC Stoneham Tornadoes 3

AFC Stoneham Pumas 2

WOW!! SUPER proud of both sets of girls is an understatement today…

A Stoneham derby today Tornadoes V Pumas…

AFC Stoneham is fortunate to have two girls teams both playing top division football for their age and both sets of girls dedicated to the game putting in 110%…

The game was a mixture of halves, some missed opportunities, great tackles, superb passing, banging shots and to top it off great sportsgirlship afterwards with high fives and fist pumps

Superb parent interaction and coaching cuddles afterwards

Best wishes to both teams next week against different opponents!

Club view:

We have received many reports on the above game all wishing to let us know how super proud we as a club should be of both teams.

This was a wonderful game with exemplary behaviour from every player, manager, coach and parents.

Everyone involved brought huge credit to our club. Thank you .

U13 Girls

Home to Winchester City who sit top of the league. A game we had to win to stand any chance of pushing for the Div 3 title….

A very evenly matched first half saw both teams giving everything. Not many chances on offer. With 25 minutes on the clock Winchester broke free off the left and fired a low shot past Flo to make it 0-1. The girls took a while to recover, when a shot hit a high Winchester hand in the box and we won a penalty. Cherice Johnson stepped up, and stroked it home in the bottom corner! 1-1… all to play for. The half finished that way.

We asked the girls for an extra 10-15% in the second half, my word they gave it…. the game was end to end and all of a sudden very open. Iris Wakely, through on goal… hit the post! Goal mouth scramble, shot block, shot block…. how have we not scored?!!

Then Winchester won a free kick on the edge of the box, they struck it in the top corner…. BUT super Florence Page leaped high to deny a certain goal! Outstanding.

End to end, when Iris has laid Lillie Banks through 1 on 1… could she…. ?? ….. Go on Lillie…. The crowd held their breath ….. 2-1!!!!! Limbs everywhere in the sideline!!!

But then backs against the wall, under pressure defending for our lives and the ref has given a penalty to Winchester for handball…. But the girl has put it wide! Still 2-1….

Corner after corner for Winchester… we stood firm… and there was the final whistle!

FT AFC Stoneham 2-1 Winchester City

11 unbeaten, we march on… up the Purps

Club view:

Our U13 girls only started playing football in the summer and have been formed into a super team now enjoying great success with a manager ,Steve, who should undoubtedly be a sports reporter with his wonderful match reports !

As a new team the U13 girls epitomise what our club is trying to achieve with girls football .Fantastic!

A huge well done to all of our girls teams on yesterday's superb set of results.

AFC Stoneham Panthers U10

Romsey Town Lionesses U10

The first time the girls have met up since the Christmas break and the game was played in the cold, heavy rain.

The Panthers took the lead early in the first quarter through Jessica H but were pegged back to 1-1 by Romsey.

Jessica H then added a further six goals in the next 2 quarters with Mirela also scoring a well deserved goal.

The parity rule evened things up at the end with Jessica P scoring in the final quarter.

Well done to Abigail (twice), Jess P and Georgia for going in goal in the weather.

Momentous result today, beating the league leaders and keeping a clean sheet.

I was proud of the level of play in the first half but we found another level in the second half. I’ve never seen us so calm in possession and with our unrivalled ability to transition from defence to attack and vice versa, we were able to dominate a very good team.

Our players must be proud of their achievement. We are now the highest placed team in our league and into the cup semi finals

It’s also important to acknowledge that we played a different formation today, we explained it in the warm up. The switch to wing backs was designed to nullify their wingers and relied on our central midfielders creating with movement and 1-2s. I honestly cannot believe that 9 & 10 year olds can take on and execute that level of tactical information

In one phase of play we won 12 consecutive 1v1s. I saw defenders making incredible choices, playing safe or breaking lines with passes. We look comfortable with a proper goalie. Our wing backs were outrageously good, dominating defensively and clever in possession. Our 4 midfielders today did everything, won it, shared it and were a constant goal threat. Our quality of decision-making in possession is incredible. In attack we have varying threats, and we saw some great link up play as well as a desire to run in behind and lead the press.

I feel like mentioning individuals would detract from what was the best team performance I’ve seen. Considering we were missing 2 important players, everyone had to deliver, and did, big time. That said, our trophy winners Roxy and Phoebe, often unsung heroes, will get a name check. They were an unbreakable foundation for the team today.

As managers we expect a lot and it was pleasing to see them exceed expectation over and over again.

AFC Stoneham 3

Bridgewater Blacks 0

On a cold very wet Saturday afternoon Stoneham U16JPL girls hosted Bridgewater Blacks. Stoneham dominated the first quarter with plenty of shots on target but failed to beat a very good Bridgewater keeper. At half time the result remained 0-0.

However second half the girls came out with an assertive determination which paid off with Stoneham’s first goal coming from a brilliant curling left foot from Molly Gladwell. Bridgewater fought hard however they were unable to break down the home teams solid defence. Second goal came from Ede Buchele after a powerful run and taking it round the keeper to place the ball in the back of the net.

Third goal came from Kayleigh Maishman after a great delivery from a corner for her to score. Another great win for the PURPs

Well done girls for three great results in awful weather !!

Sunday Round Up

U7 Spitfires

U7 Spitfires' first game back after the Christmas break was a cold and wet one vs. Hamble Club Youth Typoons. The first quarter saw both teams having lots of the ball but both unable to score. The second quarter Hamble grew into the game quicker, switched on, and scored a brace before halftime. Spitfires were looking to get back into the game, but a mix-up at the back gave Hamble another. Spitfires did not give up, though, and managed a fine solo goal through Charlie Liburd with a rasping finish from outside the box and also converting a penalty. Archie R also had a great game marshalling the defence and getting stuck in, and Joey showed great link up play! All players showed character and gave some great ideas on what to do! Playee of the match to Charlie for his goals and fantastic movement on and off the ball!

U8 Spitfires

Spitfires started 2022 off in style with an excellent performance against Pace Panthers. Some really nice passing and great finishing made for a faultless performance. Every player played their part and everyone of the boys had a great game. Henry Polkinghorne and Brody Hibberd where on fire in front of goal and Harvey Whyte done something today for the 1st time this season. POM could of gone to anyone today but awarded to Theo Yaldren who battled hard for the team and the determination to win every tackle. Really proud of all the boys today, well done ‘mini Spitfires’

U8 Panthers

Unlucky today boys. We played some really good football at times and could have easily been the reverse score if it wasn’t for their great defending and goalkeeper’s. We created so many chances, and just need to remember to shoot on site. The boys never gave up and kept going which was a please to watch. It was just one of those days we wasn’t going to win. Taking nothing away from Southside, they deserved the win.

David done well in goal with some great saves. Oliver and James defended well, and made some good interceptions and passes. Lucas was great in midfield, battling and passing and managed to get on the scoresheet. Ollie and Harry played well in both midfield and attack, and were both unlucky not to score. Jenson was a menace up front and also scored a goal. But my man of the match went to Henry.

His drive, determination, tackling and passing was a pleasure to watch. He never gave up, and also scored. Well done Henry. Well done all of you.

U9 Spitfires

A great performance from the boys today against a spirited Hythe & Dibden team. The team went one down in the first few minutes of the game but didn’t concede again until a penalty was awarded against us in the 4th quarter. All the boys were really on their games today. Everyone could have been man of the match, the honour went to Reuben, who did some great tackling and popped up with a goal as well. Blake, Marley & Myles were great in defence. Tomo and Sam showed some great speed on the wings and nice passing with Jakub in the middle.

Goals for Jakub 3, Reuben 1, Blake 1 & Sam 2. Well done boys!

U9 Royals

AFC Stoneham U9 Royals

The boys got off to a slow start on a frozen slippery pitch, Archer was brought into action and made a few good saves to start the game. The 2nd quarter saw a great attacking display with Mikaile, Lucas, Aron and Dexter combining brilliantly throughout to break down the Marchwood defence. The Royals continued to dominate the game, a few stand out moments were Henry and Leo’s long range goals as well as couple of perfect slide tackles from Danny. Jafha and Aron also scored as well as an own goal from a great Dexter corner. MOTM went to Leo for silky skills, an assist and two superb goals. A top start to the year, well done boys!

U10 Spitfires

A great start to the new year for the Under 10 Spitfires with a very strong performance and convincing win. The first quarter saw Charlie pull off two great saves, with the team really coming alive in the second quarter with 5 goals. A further 3 goals came in the remaining quarters with today’s goal scorers being Bushy, Alfie and Zack. The defence stood strong throughout, achieving a well deserved clean sheet, and being involved in several of the goals and chances by playing it out from the back. Man of the match was a tough decision after such a good passing team performance, with Alfie being awarded the trophy. Well done boys.

U10 Jaguars

AFC Stoneham Jaguars v North Baddesley.

Great to be back and an excellent start to the new year for the Jags.

Right from kick off every player was energised and enthusiastic about the game.

From a solid defence along with great passing and holding the Jags completely dominanted this game from start to finish.

A hatrick from Sammie and a brace from Alex and 1 for Ollie was only bettered by 4 goals from Egit which included a great solo effort form one end of the pitch to the other to finish the game.

U10 Wolves

The Wolves started the second half of the season with a first class team performance.

After learning our final new formation, there was once again the mid-game switch, but this time during play rather than during a break, meaning on-field decision making and communication were crucial and fortunately these were carried out well.

There were some outstanding performances, notably in goal from Reuben who commanded the area by often coming off his line to bravely dive at the feet of attackers, from Dominik who showed determination in defence combined with good positioning and firm tackling, from Oskar P who adapted well to his first game in midfield giving him more space to run with the ball as well as an opportunity to show off both his shooting and marking abilities, and from Dash who successfully switched when needed from right defender to right attacker and then to left midfielder.

Wolf of the Week is the ever reliable Adam who is starting to enjoy his move from midfield to attack. He tracked back effectively, covered more of the pitch than ever before and was rewarded today in his shooting.

From a winning position we partly closed the game out, but not completely so as to still prioritise player development over the result. This meant mistakes could still be made - and were - but this in turn meant it was those who made mistakes who became today's true winners.

U10 Royals

The U10 Royals got off to the dream start in their new division after their recent promotion. They brushed off the cobwebs from Christmas very quickly through Jake, and took a lead midway through the first quarter. From there it was simply onwards and upwards, with goals from Marcus, including a great header from a corner, to give us our 3rd consecutive game without the opposition scoring! The team were happy to be back playing again after the break, and their performance showed how much they missed it all.

Player’s player of the match went to Marcus for his goals and for never giving up

Coaches player of the match went to Hari, who did not make a single mistake in that game, keeping us with a clean sheet for today. Up the purps!

U11 Tigers

The Tigers had a fully-fit squad for the first time since November with Covid hitting the boys hard in the lead-up to Christmas, with a perfect surface down in Fawley to kick-off 2022 -despite the disastrous weather the last few days

Both teams created chances in the first half with Stoneham Tigers arguably on top but it was the home team who took the lead first. A string of amazing saves from Jack Binns kept the Tigers in the game.

However, Fawley quickly scored a second and it would have been easy for the Tigers' heads to drop. The boys' positive attitude and eagerness to continue sticking to our principles enabled Oliver Lewandowski (yes that is his real name!) to find a reply and we went into the interval just a goal behind.

Shortly into the second-half and Fawley grabbed two in quick succession. Stoneham Tigers managed to earn themselves a number of corners in rapid fashion and scored from both, courtesy of Miles Griffiths to narrow the gap.

The last ten minutes was all purple as the boys searched for an equaliser but a late goal from Fawley, after a superb initial save from Jack Binns, rounded the game off.

Despite the result, the Tigers can truly be proud of themselves with a can-do attitude from the first whistle to the last and always stuck to our team principles.

Special shout-outs for Zachary Simmonds, Alfie Talbot and Jack Binns. Our matchday leader was Vinnie Hamstead.

U12 Panthers

Under 12 Panthers finished our league fixtures to with a 4-1 win away at Baddesley. We had a good start to the game and played football I the right way. It then became more of a battle as the pitch started to cut up more and get boggier in places. Goalscorers today were Jake, Sam Warner, Ben and Isaac. Player of the match went to Liam at left back who put in some great tackles, was always an outlet on the left and helped drive us forward.

We will finish in the top 2 but where depends on the results in the last couple of games for Hamble, who have 2 games left to play.

We now just wait to find out what the league are doing to create more fixtures as it must be too early for the season to finish.
