THANK YOU!

THANK YOU!

As we briefly draw breath the club would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday to support the team and are now looking forward to cheering them on at Yeovil on Sept 16th

Saturdays remarkable game and Mondays fantastic draw has led to a lot of interest in the club especially on social media culminating in a Twitter post having currently 250,000 views and a Facebook post at now over 700,000 views. These figures are normally 50 or 60 on a good day!

Nine years ago our club were in the Hampshire league and our players paid to play. Yeovil Town were in the championship.

The magic of the FA Cup is most definitely alive. We are humbled to feel a very small part of that magic and for the wonderful support the club is currently receiving.

Thank you very much.

AFC STONEHAM 8 CHRISTCHURCH 1

AFC Stoneham 8

Christchurch 1

Scorers: Martins(4), Callaghan (2),

Batt and Jenkins.

Christchurch scored first with a tremendous strike from the edge of the box on seven minutes before the boys recovered from a slow start with five goals in eighteen minutes before half time.

Three further goals in the second half sealed a good three points after the drama of the weekend.

We wish Christchurch the best of luck for the season ahead.

Well done boys !

SEPT 3 WEEKEND ROUND UP

Weekend Round Up

Some of our teams returned to action this weekend and below are their match reports

AFC Stoneham Tigers U8’s:

First league game and a great game to get us back into it drawing 2-2 against a good hamble side.

Boys worked really hard in that heat today and played some lovely stuff at times. With our first league goal of the season being total football counter attack, finished off perfectly by Alex shows the progression these boys are making. Showed great character again to not give up and get that equaliser we at least deserved. Roll on next week and the rest of the season.

MOTM Alex Pietras! Goal, assist and all round brilliant performance.

U8 Lionesses

The girls entered the Braishfield Tournament and had a great day out!

Panthers U8 Report

What a game to start the season with against a strong Totton & Ealing side. It was our typical slow start but once the boys got into their passing groove, we looked unstoppable. There was some great goals, great tackles and great saves from both teams. We kept the ball superbly at times and also the strength from the boys was outstanding. Man of the match went to Henry. Apart from his 3 magical moments, his hold up play and passing was excellent.

Special mentions to Evan with two magic moments with Harley and Seth adding a further moments of magic each. Well done all of you today, with your never give up attitude. One proud manager.

U9 Panthers

A beautiful sunny Sunday for the first match of the new season saw a great performance from the Stoneham U9 Panthers. They started the match well, sticking to the challenges set by their coaches in each quarter. Billy was on fire with assists, a goal and lots of shots from distance while Luca made some important tackles and scored an amazing hat trick! In defence Copper and Oscar were solid, making some great passes forward. Upfront, Copper converted 2 goals, Manny adding to the score sheet. There were brilliant saves as always from Fraser in goal and attacking passes from the back. Freddie was on a mission, winning ball after ball in midfield. Every player fought for the ball and it was a great team performance. Man of the match this week goes to Oscar. Perfect start to the season!

U9 Spitfires

Won the Braishfield tournament. Well done boys!

Panthers U10 Report

What a great start to the season, against a good Hythe & Dibden Dynamite. I know it’s going to take time for the boys to gel, but after looking at that performance, you wouldn’t think we were half a new team. You all worked together collectively, Attacking, defending and closing down. You were everywhere today.

So proud of you all. Man of the match was a tough one, but went to the hat-trick hero Henry. Your skill on the ball, shooting and just getting into the right positions were excellent today. Special mention to Jake, for his hard work and engine in the middle of the pitch. Also to Gabi, again, your footwork and distribution was excellent today. Well done Henry and all of you, a great team performance.

U18 Girls

First time the u18 girls played together at the Winchester tournament and they went 5 from 5, scored 11 and conceded just 2 to bring the cup home, and we tested them with playing a different line up every game and some players in new positions, couldn’t be prouder

Well done to all of our teams!

AFC STONEHAM 5 BASINGSTOKE TOWN 4

FA Cup

AFC Stoneham 5

Basingstoke Town 4

Scorers: Martins(2), Welch,Clarke, Callaghan.

It is very difficult to sum up todays game in a Facebook post. One actually had to be there to believe it! Wow!

The boys were three down in 28 minutes and went in 3-1 down at half time against a very good team from two leagues above. We were always huge underdogs for this game.

We were 4-1 down on 49 minutes.

What then happened in the remaining 41 minutes of normal time and nearly 12 minutes of added time will live in the memory for evermore!

The boys somehow found added belief and energy to score 4 goals and miss a penalty in a truly unbelievable last 41 minutes of normal time. The added time seemed endless as the boys literally threw their bodies in front of every shot as we defended as if our lives depended on it.

We progressed to the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Cup and beat a Step 3 club for the first time ever with probably the greatest result in our 103 year history.

A truly wonderful and momentous day for our club which will never be forgotten and we would like to thank everyone who came along to support the team.

The magic of the FA Cup lives on !!

AFC Stoneham Vets - What a Season

AFC Stoneham Vets - What a season!

Our Vets had to play in the 3rd tier of 6 in the Open Age Junior 1 City of Southampton league this season as they were deemed slightly too good for the Vets league.

Despite having at least 20 years on some of their opponents they won the league !

They also won two cup competitions just to add to this awesome achievement !

However the "icing on the cake" was recently being awarded The Southampton League "Team of the Season ".

Led by their Spiritual Leader Stewart Beck ,aka Becko , they have enjoyed an outstanding season and brought huge credit to our club.

We are all hugely proud of our Vets!

Well done guys on a superb season

Adam Lee - New Ladies Manager.

Welcome back Adam !!

The club is delighted to confirm that Adam Lee has returned as First Team Ladies manager.

Adam will oversee the first team and ladies structure including the progress and development of our young players.

The two senior squads have already enjoyed some excellent pre-season sessions and very much look forward to the new season.
