FA Vase Match report v Christchurch away

Christchurch vs AFC Stoneham match report:

It was another successful day for AFC Stoneham as The Purps won 2-0 away at Christchurch FC in the FA Vase on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Jamie Johnston in a much changed lineup secured the win.

The Purps made a fast start as Jamie Johnston received the ball on the right hand side from a Jim Orvis pass before curling beautifully into the top right hand corner to make it 1-0 in the first minute.

Jamie Johnston gave his full back a further scare on the eight minute mark when he beat him, but a good low cross was turned behind behind before Jim Orvis corner floated straight onto the post.

Stoneham were soon to threaten again as the towering Ben Clarke met a corner and headed it back across for Mitchell Speechley Price to head just over the bar.

Tom Annetts was next to try his luck for Stoneham as the ball was turned across for Annetts to have two bites of the cherry, only to see both efforts blocked.

Around the midway point of the first half, Tom Annetts won the ball back before laying it to Stuart Green whose long shot sailed comfortably into the goalkeepers hands.

The home goalkeeper was once again forced into action as Mitchell Speechley Price knocked the ball back for Jim Orvis who saw his shot sailing into the top left before it was saved.

Christchurch had the better of the opening exchanges with a flurry of speculative shots including a volley which went wide to the keepers right.

Stoneham had the best chance soon after though as a speculative Jim Orvis half volley was deflected against the post and behind for a corner.

After some indecision in the middle of the pitch, Stoneham were able to profit as Mitchell Speechley Price played the ball out to Jamie Johnston who cut inside however his tame shot was easily saved.

The game was in the balance until the latter stages when a lovely ball from Matt Bainbridge picked out the run of Jamie Johnston who made no mistake to double his tally and the Purps’ lead to secure the win.
