Saturday Round Up
AFC Stoneham U10 Girls Panthers 1 City Ladies Rubies 2
It appears under 10 girls and strong winds and freezing temperatures don’t mix. The girls really struggled with the conditions playing into the strong wind for the first half but took the lead through a fine solo goal from Mirela.
Despite having the better chances, City Ladies Rubies scored twice to take the lead, which they held on to thanks to some very good saves from their keeper.
The two teams meet again in the quarter final of the Plate.
AFC Stoneham U11 Girls
Tornadoes 4 Down Grange 1
What a morning! The wind chill was Baltic and we also had snow at the end, thank goodness and not during the game..!
Great experience for the girls to play on actual grass in that weather - sometimes we’re a little spoilt with 3G…proper grass roots football today!
Luckily we had a squad - a bare 9 today due to various reasons against a whole village ! The opponents had circa 16 players - Almost enough for two teams and plenty of fresh legs…
Our girls fitness and ability held the game today…
Realistically without taking anything away from Down Grange we should have won 25-0…We eventually lost count of opportunities where we could have finished however their keeper had a phenomenal game and really kept them in it…Her reactions, positioning and ability to read the shots is something that you just can’t teach…only enhance and get better…rightly so, our girls nominated her player of the day.
Millie Fear had a great game today scoring all 4 goals for us…that said opportunities were taken by several other players…just not enough oomph to put the ball in the back of the net.
All of the girls put a shift in today, no subs, they ran their hearts out….hence why we’ve been increasing the CV training on Thursdays by way of ‘mainly’ game scenarios to keep them engaged…As the girls are getting older and playing in a higher ability league against higher ability opponents they become harder to play against so we need to increase what we’re doing also to keep up and get ahead…
Potd: Selena great work and energy
U11 boys JPL v Portsmouth
The under 11s had a tough game today against Pompey in the Community in the JPL. An even first quarter where both teams squandered chances, ended with Pompey 1-0 up after a lapse in defence allowed them a free run at goal. The second quarter continued in the same vain, before a penalty made it 2-0 to Pompey. At this point, our boys came alive and a lovely assist from Jacob allowed Fin to score. 2-1.
Next some excellent play out wide and a whipped in cross allowed Tyler to smash one home. 2-2
An unlucky own goal made it 3-2 to Pompey before Josh stepped up and delivered a worldly free kick to bring things level again. 3-3.
In to the second half and a great counter attack sent Ablaye on his way to score for us. 4-3.
Both teams creating chances to score and in to the final quarter it was Pompey who took advantage of a wayward clearance to equalise 4-4.
The snow started and the wind picked up but that wouldn’t deter us, as another counter attack set Jacob on his way, who calmly rounded the keeper and kept his composure to slot home. 5-4.
Another devastating counter attack from us set Jacob on his way again who finished on the half volley, beating the oncoming keeper to make the final score 6-4.
What a game, what a result. Well done U11s.
U13 Girls match report
Home to 100% record top of the league Netley at a wet, bitterly cold, and windy Stoneham.
The weather made for a scrappy first half with the two teams cancelling each other out. Not many chances to report and defences on top.
Second half was similar but we started really strongly, then conceded an unfortunate goal, the defence a bit static the ball heading towards goal and it bounced off the post hit our defender and dribbled over the line… agonising! 0-1.
We kept the pressure on but struggled to create the clear cut chances against a strong and quick defence… until a shot from outside the box from Cherice Johnson went under the Netley GK and into the net!! The crowd went crazy wild and it was no less than the girls deserved. From that moment we grew in confidence and had the better of it but couldn’t find the winner.
FT AFC Stoneham 1-1 Netley Royals
5 games without defeat now for the girls!!
U14 Girls
Winchester Kites U14 Girls 2
AFC Stoneham Lionesses
U14 Girls 2
Another superb performance from all the girls today in Arctic like conditions, against top of the division Winchester Kites.
After a dominant first 25 mins playing uphill, against a gale force wind, Stoneham somehow found themselves a goal behind. To say this was against the run of play would certainly be an understatement, and it deflated the girls confidence for the rest of the half. To their credit though they came out 2nd half firing on all cylinders, once again playing the opposition off the pitch. Annabels
equaliser surely has to be goal of the season, and was followed up by more excellent play resulting in a 'determined' Emily Essex goal.
Quite how the Kites scored their equaliser with the last kick of the game, is still beyond me, and quite possibly the opposition.
An excellent game to watch, with attractive football being played by both teams, just a pity it was the wrong result.
So many deserve a special mention today, Angel & Annabel bossed the game in centre mid, Essex and Emily Harryman look to be a good partnership up front, Saoirse who quietly goes about her game week in week out. Finally Tia in her first game for the Purps.
Bring on the game against Pompey next week!

U16 Girls

Final score 5-1 to AFC Stoneham and congratulations to the girls and coaches on a great win in what was a bitterly cold afternoon!!
Well done to all of our teams
