Sunday Round Up
U8 Panthers
What a great game that was today. We asked them to go back to basics, with high energy and passing, like the start of the season. They didn’t disappoint. From the start, they pressed and got their rewards.
David was excellent in goal, with some important rushing out. Oliver and birthday boy James was great in defence with some good passing and clearing, and James even got himself a goal.
Lucas and Ollie was great in midfield with again some important tackles, good passing and fast pressing. Harry again showed great determination and nice footwork and also got on the scoresheet with a high press interception from their goal kick. Jenson ‘the Goat’ was again all over the pitch and was very unselfish when he could have scored himself, but still managed to score 2 goals. But man of the match today went to my Midfield General Henry. From the moment he stepped onto the pitch he was everywhere, tackling, passing, tracking back and shooting. He scored 4 times including direct from a corner. Well done Henry. Well done all of you, very proud today.
U8 Thunder
A superb first half performance against a newly promoted side who boost some really neat players.
Thunder started of really well playing some lovely football and pulling the opponent’s apart. A quick two goals from, one from Archie and the other from Harry settled the team down. Second quarter we came out playing again and after Harry needed his second of the game with a neat bottom corner strike, we felt the game was secure.
This was partly the reason we let the opposition back in the game as we stopped playing the football that we displayed in the first half.
However an Eryk press and tackle saw him put himself in front of goal and finished comfortably.
A second of the game for Archie rounded off a convincing display.
Well done boys!!
U8 Spitfires
U8 Spitfires came up against AFC Hiltingbury Hurricanes in a very entertaining which was end to end. Spitfires came from behind on numerous occasions even with decisions going against us. Brody Hibberd was on fires in front of goal as was Elliott Finch, Adriano Philips and even Henry Polkinghorne was on fire from the penalty spot after going on goal in for majority of game as our normal keeper was not available. So proud of these boys for there fight in the last few games. POM went to Zachary Curtis who was solid throughout.
U9 Royals
AFC Stoneham U9 Royals had a great game vs St Francis knights, who had previously given us our toughest game of the season. The boys battled well throughout in a tense end to end game that could’ve gone either way. Special mentions go to Oakley and Leo who were excellent in defence and to Nathaniel who ran his socks off up and down the wing. The goals came from Dexter and Lucas showing calm finishes from the edge of the box. MOTM today went to Archer who was solid in goal throughout with great distribution and box command. However an outstanding final quarter with multiple 1v1 saves saw him take the award, with Leo in a close second. A great performance and shows how the lads have improved individually and as a team!
U9 Spitfires
A good performance from the boys today against a spirited Millbrook Hurricanes team. The boys have really started to gel over the last couple of weeks. The performance was really positive and there was lots of passing and supporting play. Goals for Jakub, Reuben, Tomo & Marley. MotM was Sam. Well done boys!
U10 Wolves
Facing a strong, physical and well organised Netley Royals, the Wolves felt prepared for the task and confident of an upset!
The Royals were limited to 2 goals without reply. A disappointing result but a performance to be proud of.
Today we discovered 3 leaders, each given a team responsibility at the start and each of them delivered. Dominik controlled his back line in his first extended outing in central defence, when Jude moved into midfield his positioning and bravery were both excellent and Noah was suddenly fighting for every team cause.
Special mentions to Reuben who kept us in the game with 3 very special saves, one outstanding, and Dash who, in a pivotal 2nd quarter kept everything together by combining determined defending with his trade mark forward dribbles
The front 3, in various combinations of Oskar P, Adam, Finn, Noah and Jude passed as a team in the approach play and all we now lack is the final pass at the right time and we will have more goals galore!
Tyler played well in his first game in defence, Rayane continues to develop in defence and Rivers improved again this time in midfield.
Wolf of the Week, for his leadership qualities both in training this week and at today's match, is Jude.
U10 Spitfires
Top quality team performance from the Under 10 Spitfires today. Turned into a comfortable 5-0 win. Chamberlayne were restricted to only a few long range efforts, which then allowed Charlie to produce a couple of top draw saves. With goals from Forbsey, Alfie and a hat trick for Freds. MOTM went to Forbsey for his goal and all round composure on the ball throughout
U11 Lions
Brilliant performances from all today, a much needed confidence boosting victory. A special mention goes out to Maisy for her hat-full of goals but Man Of The Match was scooped up by Josh who didn’t put a foot wrong all game. A brilliant performance to warm up a cold Sunday morning. Up The Lions!
U12 Spitfires
U12 Spitfires played top of the league Millbrook who have a 100% record this season and the boys gave them a close run game and arguably were the better team. Score line was harsh on the boys who lost 4-2 but the performance was excellent. The score could have gone the other way but punished for a few mistakes.
Harry Halligan scoring both our goals and won POM but have to say the whole teams effort was a credit to the boys
U13 Spitfires
U13 AFC Stoneham Spitfires v Southside Wolves.
The whole team put in a fantastic effort today. We played some wonderful football and were unlucky to be 0-0 at half time. With the percentage of play swinging in our favour, we got the goal we deserved and went on to win the game 1-0. Goal scored by Logan. The whole team were outstanding and a credit to our club.
Well done Spitfires
U14 Panthers
U14 Panthers produced a great first half display on their way to beating Hiltingbury 2-1. The boys started on the front foot and controlled the game before taking the lead through the excellent Will Hosmer, who drifted past two players before slotting the ball into the back of the net. Shortly afterwards, Will was brought down inside the box following some great skill to draw in the defender. Will got to his feet and dispatched the resulting penalty to help the boys lead 2-0 at half time. The pattern of play continued through the opening phase of the second half, with Will having a chance to score a hat trick, however somehow his shot ended up over the bar. Hiltingbury then scored with 10 minutes left, however following this the game became very scrappy and the boys denied any further opportunities. The players voted Charlie Bellinger and Will as players of the match. Charlie was making his debut for the team, and was excellent throughout.
U14 Knights
U14 Knights beat Eastleigh in the Community 3-0 away from home in Tyro Div 1. Goals were scored by Adrian - free kick (30’), Will (53’) and Elliot (55’). MOM was Sam for his constant threat, work rate and support play
U14 Royals
Tough day at the office for The Royals. We never really turned up and the opposition wanted it more. We learnt a hard lesson in a 9-0 loss. Special thanks to Euan and Ollie for taking one for the team and doing a half each in goal.
U15 Spitfires
U15 Spitfires were excellent away to AFC Totton winning 4-3. After a slow 1st half boys went in 1-1 at half time then found themselves 3-1 down with 2 break away goals early in 2nd half. Boys then re-grouped and dominated the game and deservedly went on to win 4-3. Great performance. Goals were scored by Taylor Waters (hat trick) and Owen Leece. POM went to Fergus Mitchell-Moore who battled hard throughout.
U16 United
United 1 - 1 Hamble
Hindley (pen)
Sadler (MotM)
A scrappy, tetchy game today in which we were 0-1 at the break and fought hard in the second half to come away with a point.
U16 Galaxy
An improved display by Galaxy this afternoon has hopefully kick started their season. a committed attitude resulted in them winning their 1st point as they drew 2-2 with Littleton.
A great finish from Keiran Kandiah got them off the mark with the 2nd an OG after some excellent work from Davi de Paula.
Up the purps
U18 Rovers
A very good 4-0 win over Winchester City Black.
Goals: Wise 2, Sunley, Ingram (pen)
