Weekend Round Up

Weekend round Up

U7 Panthers

Well Done today boys a local derby against our own AFC Stoneham Hurricanes U8’s.

In what was a cold, wet and bitter conditions, the boys played outstanding. None of you stopped running and just kept going. Jacob was great in goal with some brave driving at the feet of the attackers. Morgan and Caleb were solid at the back with some crunching tackles. Evan & Edison played extremely well in midfield, breaking up play and driving forward with the ball. Evan with 3 magic moments and Edison with one, followed by a knee slide. Matthew and Seth worked tirelessly up front. Chasing down balls and getting into spaces. Seth also grabbing a brace of magic moments. But my man of the match went to Harley. His box to box evergy and tacking was outstanding today. And he managed to get 3 magical moments also. Well done Harley, well done all of you today, for not giving up. So proud of you all.

U7 Wolves

The last game of 2022 for the Wolves was a real Christmas cracker against a Millbrook side that had handsomely won last time the two sides met.

With the temperature being a challenge of its own we played 6 a side which meant no subs today and every player did their part for the team. The first half ebbed and flowed with excellent football resulting in some good goals from both sides, starting with an early run and finish from Ollie and an opportunistic long range drive from Fyfe. As the game progressed chances kept coming for Ollie, Vinnie and Jack, with the woodwork getting in the way a few times. At the other end Fyfe and Louie worked hard to get back and support Jacob in defence but Millbrook played some fast counter attacking football and opened up an advantage.

The game turned on a moment of brilliance in our own goal. A scramble led to a looping shot coming in which had Ollie beaten, but Louie was in exactly the right place and made a fantastic goal line clearance. This galvanised the team and in the space of four minutes Vinnie pounced three times to give us the lead for the first time in the game. We kept our heads and kept moving and in the last minute Louie won the ball in midfield and drove forward before finishing well to top off an amazing team performance.

Words can't describe how proud we are of each and every wolf in this pack. Jacob, Harry, Vinnie, Louie, Fyfe, Jack, Ollie and Adam you are all stars. To watch you play your first games back in the summer and progress up a division to where you are now has been a privilege and both Kieran and John are so thankful to have such a lovely bunch of kids to coach and an amazingly supportive and passionate set of families cheering them on.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the whole AFC Stoneham family!

U8 Tigers

The Tigers played a great game versus excellent opponents in Littleton.

The score kept changing and both teams were happy at the end despite awful weather!

Kyran was on fire in front of goal and Teddy was excellent at the back. The whole team battled very hard and all 6 boys ( Max, Isaac, Fin, Tudor, Kyran, Teddy) should be very proud of their great performance as they all played a big part.

Well done Tigers!

U8 Panthers

The Panther boys battled hard in the wet and cold today for their last match before Christmas. They had great possession against their big, strong opponents so had to find space and look for the best passes.

Logan opened the scoring with an Absolute screamer! Jack found great space, controlled his passes and the perfect assist for Oscars goal while Freddie did not give up on a single tackle! Vinnie had a couple of great quarters in goal, making some good saves to allow Oscar to play outfield and score! Cooper made some beautiful passes and great tackles, Billy was solid in defence and midfield while Manny found some good positions up front.

We had a Hat trick from Hayden and a final goal from Freddie.

Huge thank you for the season so far to our amazing coaches Scott and Chris with the support of Nathan and our sponsors Hendy Group and LightWork Accounting. Merry Christmas everyone!

U9 Rovers JPL

Our U9 Rovers ended the year against Pompey In The Community.

The boys controlled the game from the start with some great passing and majority of possession limiting our opponents to counter attacks which were dealt with superbly by our back line. Somehow we went in godless after the 1st third.

2nd third our opponents started brighter but the boys soon took control of the game again and Harrison Jacobs fired the boys deservedly ahead. The lead never lasted long as an equaliser was scored following an indirect free kick due to the no heading rule!

Final third the boys battled hard but just couldn’t find the winner they deserved.

POM went to Chase Marjason who was excellent and done everything but score and his efforts deserved a goal.

It’s been a very positive season so far in our 1st ever JPL season and so proud how all the boys have done. Well done to all the Rovers players and superb support on/off the pitch from the parents.

U9 Spitfires

U9 Spitfires ended the year against FC Salisbury in an entertaining game. We were on the back foot to start with as had our customary slow start and found ourselves 2 behind at half time.

Unfortunately lost a player due to illness at half time so went down to 6 players but this seemed to spur us on and got 2 quick fire goals through the impressive Mazen Ismael who was a threat all game and earned himself POM.

Tiredness started to show but the boys battled hard and even though we went behind again we got back level through Alfie Bungay.

The additional player started to show as the game went on went behind again and this time just couldn’t find another goal.

So proud of the boys today in horrible conditions and having to play half the game a player down.

AFC Stoneham U18’s JPL Vs Moneyfields U18

Quarter Final of Hampshire Cup

Our last game of 2022 and the girls started with a somewhat sleepy start.

A corner came just 11 minutes in and was headed into the net by Mia.

With full pitch coverage working all the team to the max, Moneyfield equalised just 10 minutes later.

Warming up and getting the flow going, our midfielders & defenders kept the opposition at bay allowing Darcey to bang home goal number 2, Mia goal 3, Darcey goal 4 and Mia goal 5 all ahead of half-time.

After another rallying talk from Coach Paul J, the girls came out for the second half on fire.

Mia placed goal 6 and then goal 7 from a fantastic Iyna cross.

Darcey ended the goal-fest bringing us to an 8-1 finale.

Another tremendous demonstration of how team work can bring success and how individual determination makes a team work.

Semi-Final here we come!

Well done girls, Paul J & co. and thanks to Chris for showing off his legs whilst running the line .

Well done to all of our teams some of who played in awful weather!
