AFC Totton preview

AFC Stoneham play their final game of 2022 on Tuesday 20th December as they host high-flying AFC Totton in the third round of the Southampton Senior Cup.

 AFC Stoneham:

Stoneham have been in pretty good form themselves, winning four games on the bounce, with the most recent being a 2-0 win at home to Christchurch.

The Purps are currently third in the Wessex Premier League table, with their good results applying pressure on Horndean in second, as they look to cement a place in the promotion spots.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Stoneham comfortably beat Bishops Waltham Dynamoes 8-2 in the second, thanks to goals from Duarte Martins (x3), Cian Cleary (x2), Liam Callaghan (x2) and Scott Hills, setting up this local clash in the third round.

Stoneham will certainly go into this game as the underdogs and will want to create a cup upset, something that Totton have previously fallen victim to when Stoneham beat them 3-1 in the semi-final of the Russell Cotes Cup back in 2018.

AFC Totton:

The Stags’ have had a great start to their league campaign, sitting second in the Southern League Division One South on 36 points, eight points off Sholing in first who have played two games more.

They are currently the holders of this trophy, winning it at St Mary’s back in May after defeating Wessex League side Folland Sports 3-0 in the final.

Their most recent game was a 1-0 league win againstWilland Rovers, but they began their defence of this cup back in September, sweeping aside Ringwood Town 4-0.

Due to COVID-19 stopping this competition from going ahead in the 2020/21 season, it means that Totton haven’t lost a game in this tournament for around two years, with their last being on penalties to Bush Hill in the 2019/20 Semi-Finals.

Therefore, the Stags are the clear favourites for this tie, so can Stoneham produce yet another cup upsetagainst Totton and seal their place in the quarter finals?
