Weekend Round Up

Weekend round up

A much shorter version this week due to many games being cancelled.

U8 Jaguars

An excellent game played out today in the cold and sleet.

A very close game with a wonderful hat trick by MOM Freddie Nichols and a great goal by Jio made up the scorers for the Purps!! Thomas , Lincoln and James all worked tirelessly in this well played game.

U9 Rovers

U9 Rovers put in great display against Proco where a 5 minute spell goal fest was enough.

Henry Polkinghorne got the scoring under way when an unintentional through ball from the half way line went straight in followed closely by a Brody Hibberd brace and Mazen Ismael with his 1st goal for the team.

Solid defending throughout got David Trowbridge his clean sheet with POM going to Alfie Bungay who was solid in defence and a threat going forward.

Well played boys.

U9 Spitfires

Spitfires played our very own Panthers in a game that had everything snow, rain, sun wind!

A very end to end and even game in which the difference was in how clinical the boys were in front of goal.

On another day we could’ve won today but it just wasn’t to be. We go again next week. Credit to the boys who kept going in freezing conditions and didn’t get the result that their play merited.

Player of the match went to Hector the “Sweeper Keeper” who was great when called upon. Special mention to Henry Polkinghorne who found the target for us.

U11 Spitfires

The U11 Spitfires put in a brilliant performance. Hamble started the brightest with a couple of good chances early on ,forcing some great saves from Charlie. Stoneham then took control and dominated the second half. The defence and midfield were solid, providing a platform for some great attacking play. Freds was awarded man of the match for some majestic runs, super passes and two goals. Ethan also terrorised the defence with his pace and was rewarded with a goal himself. The boys showed again their strength when they play together as a team. All in all a great team performance. Well done boys. Merry Christmas purps

U16 Spitfires had a proper away game at Alton and the boys were superb. In freezing conditions with on/off snow throughout the hits started fast and Aaron Batista put us ahead latching onto a super through ball from Ollie Payne. Shortly after Ollie Payne got himself a goal cutting and striking into the corner. Alton pulled 1 back but the boys instantly responded to regain their 2 goal lead through Aaron Batista who similar to our last goal cut inside and fired into the bottom corner.

2nd half Alton responded and pulled 1 back but again the boys responded and regained their 2 goal lead when Ollie Payne shot from 25 yards which deflected up and over the Alton keeper. A controversial penalty for Alton made it 4-3 to us and in the last minute Alton got an equaliser which was harsh on the boys and feel I deserved but that’s football.

On another day and decisions go our way we won the game.

Proud of the boys today for their efforts in Baltic conditions and only having the 1 sub.

POM could have gone to anyone today as all were superb but Harry Rasor took the accolade who was solid in defence.

Well done to all of our teams who braved the cold weather!!
