AFC STONEHAM VISIT DOWNING STREET!

AFC Stoneham were delighted to be invited to 10 Downing Street recently to celebrate our positive impact on the local community.

With 113 teams and 1500 players, our club is one of the largest community grassroots sports clubs in the country. We gained national recognition for our work as a volunteer-run, community club.

We were invited to attend by The Right Honourable Lucy Frazer, The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. AFC Stoneham were represented by Club Chairman, Mark Stupple, who said:

"It was great to visit Downing Street and represent the whole club. We discussed our recent growth, our positive impact on the local community and our future plans which were very well received. The invite is undoubtedly recognition for a lot of people who have undertaken an enormous amount of work to ensure that the club is where it is today and can be prosperous and sustainable in the future”.

The club is acutely aware that this recognition is a very proud moment for the whole club and every volunteer that contributes to both our success and the positive impact on our community.

We would therefore like to send a huge thank you to every manager, coach and club volunteer who contributes towards our club and made this national recognition possible.

Without these great people there is no national recognition.

A very proud day for AFC Stoneham.

U18 SPITFIRES - COUNTY CUP SHOCKS!

U18 Spitfires - Big Cup Shock! (V2)

Match report:

Meon Milton U18 v AFC Stoneham U18 Spitfires

The boys, after their massive cup upset last round , came up against Meon Milton from the same league, so 6 divisions above us in the round of 16.

Wow is all I can say!!!!

Massive underdogs but the boys played with no pressure and matched Meon Milton for the whole 1st half and were unfortunate to go behind after a shot came back off the bar landing at the feet of a Meon Milton player who put them ahead. This was the half time score.

Half time team talk was very easy, keep doing what you’re doing.

2nd half couldn’t have started any better as Taylor Waters played a superb ball over the defence that sent Aaron Batista clear, his shot came back of the keeper but hit Aaron and trickled over the line to make it 1-1. Within minutes of this the boys went ahead when Billy Tierling’s corner was cleared back out to him but sent a superb ball into the box which David Cavalcanti got some part of his body on it to put us deservedly 2-1 ahead.

This fired up Meon Milton but some superb defending by all the boys kept us ahead. The pressure eventuallly led to an equaliser which was harsh on the boys as goal should not have counted as Mitch Shrimpton (our GK) was flattened but goal stood!

This then fired our boys up and superb through ball from William Drew sent Billy Tierling clear who finished superbly in off the post putting us 3-2 ahead, and deserved!

The final whistle seemed to never come and must have played 10 minutes injury time but the boys put the bodies on their line and the scenes at full time where amazing.

POM was deserved by everyone today but David Cavalcanti took home the award as was a defensive masterclass and even got on the scoresheet!

This team has pulled off another massive cup upset against another team 5 leagues above and on their own patch!

Words cannot describe how proud of this team we are and now in quarters finals of the Hampshire Cup!

Club Comment:

Very difficult to quantify what a massive result and achievement this is for Kevin and his Spitfires team.

Meon Milton are six divisions above the Spitfires and this is an exact repeat of the last round when they beat AFC Totton.

For a Division five team to reach the last eight of the Hampshire Cup and beat two teams from six divisions above is unheard of!

A remarkable and unbelievable achievement.

The whole club is hugely proud of the Spitfires fantastic progress. Well done to Kev and all of the boys!

SUPER U13 TIGERS

Super U13 Tigers - County Cup Last Four!

Our U13 Tigers finished 2023 unbeaten in the league and found themselves in the Semi Final of the Tyro Cup and Quarter Final of Hampshire Cup. In fact they actually haven’t lost a competitive game since October 2022!! A fantastic achievement from a great bunch of lads.

They went into their tough Hampshire Cup quarter final away to division one Romsey Town Panthers who play a division above the Tigers who were cruelly denied promotion from division two last season.

The boys continued to show their qualities and pedigree with a superb 4-3 away win to reach the County Cup Semi final for the first time.

Goalscorers were Miles Griffiths with a brace, Charlie Allen and Connor Pendergast. At the other end of the pitch debutant goalie Oliver Kiloh ,thrown in at the deep end, was outstanding.

A fantastic team performance from everyone and a huge well done to Chris, Richard and all of the boys .

U18 Panthers - Hampshire FA Midweek Cup

Our U18 Panthers Hampshire FA Midweek Floodlit Cup run came to an end in the quarter final with a 4-1 defeat to Aldershot Town including two penalties.

Although disappointed the boys have enjoyed a tremendous season to date and run in this competition. To exit to a full time academy team is no disgrace.

The boys played exceptionally well and as always were a credit to our club.

Well done to George, Matt and the team.

WEEKEND ROUND UP: DEC 9/10

WEEKEND ROUND UP

U8 Wolves v AFC Stoneham Spitfires

Another Stoneham Derby, with the Spitfires in Purple vs the Red Wolves looking to apply more pressure and position ourselves to pounce at the right the time.

The Spitfires got ahead early on with a corner nicked in at the near post, but Shay, Harry, Fyfe and Jack worked themselves back into the game and pushed for an equaliser. Jasper made some decent stops to see out a tight quarter.

Jacob defended well with the ball on the ground but the fast bounce on the astro caused us trouble. Vinnie pressed from the front and Harry and Louie were combative in midfield but two quick fire goals gave us a real uphill struggle.

Q3 we saw more of the ball, and a couple of good chances went close before the highlight of the game for Wolves. A free kick from distance gave Fyfe a chance to set his sights and he delivered a beauty to give us a shout going into the last 10.

We huffed and puffed, but couldn't blow the Spitfires house down and they well deserved the result today with a couple more either end of Q4.

We've had better days, and will in the future so the Wolves will dust themselves down and hope to see 2023 out on a high next week. Shay was solid at the back and Jasper made some good stops on top of his great distribution and so they took the players of the match.

U9 Panthers v Winsor Utd Youth Red

The Panthers were on fire today despite the rain and miserable weather. They stayed warm by passing quickly and both teams played at a fast pace making the game entertaining for all the soggy supporters.

Fraser kept a clean sheet with lots of impressive saves and was awarded Man of the Match. We saw a fantastic assist and goal from Billy and a hat trick from Manny with further assists from Freddie and Cooper.

A great team performance all round!

U9 Eagles v AFC Stoneham Hurricanes

A cold but dry 3pm U9 derby game today for the Stoneham Eagles against Stoneham Hurricanes. The boys started strong straight off the bat with Albert getting a shot on target within minutes of starting the game. He was a force across the pitch from the get go and he was constantly on the ball which meant a good start for us.

Kian was constant attacking on all his quarters and was hard to catch up front.

Julius was perfectly placed at times on the pitch and this was very clear to see when he managed to get a well-deserved first goal of the season!

As per usual our defence was phenomenal across the back, Quinn made 11 successful passes and stopped shots towards goal so this earned him man of the match. Jenson was hard to beat and managed to hit the back of the net with a wonder strike from long range but unfortunately the whistle blew as it left his foot, cancelling a superb finish. Wali also stayed strong across the back.

Leo was putting some excellent kicks in and worked hard across the field and James was constantly attacking and made some excellent forward runs. Freddie managed to put himself near the goal constantly and was able to put a shot in.

Harry made some excellent saves and was strong in goal.

Billy put on a good show across the pitch and helped with some good assists and also his own goal.

So far this season the boys have proved they are a team to be reckoned with and should be proud of how far they have come. It's fantastic to watch this well gelled team and see the work Will and Andy have put in at training come to fruition!!!

U12 Wolves v Winsor United White

Wolves overcame the pressure that comes with expectation to eventually beat Winsor 5-0 at a windy Stoneham Lane today.

Winsor started strongly, packing the midfield and preventing our forward passes, although Wolves still created chances through Evan who provided threat with his pace down the right and Talal who always shows skilful touches down the left.

But for once, more composure in front of goal was needed and 0-0 at half time was probably a fair scoreline.

Second half and Wolves were now learning the importance of patience whilst keeping possession more and making stronger passes. Our high levels of fitness were also now making the difference and it wasn't long before a through ball from Adam gave a goal for Ahmed and a directed clearance from Alfie set up Frankie for a goal from distance.

Dominik was then called on to make a great save, before Talal scored from a Muhammed corner and Frankie cut in from the right to add his second.

The introduction of Dylan's dribbling down the left and Harry's awareness in midfield then added yet more creative options.

Dominik made two more fine saves before Evan made it five for the Wolves with a fierce volley from close range.

The defensive four of Rayane, Jude, Alfie and Dominik were all outstanding today in helping to keep the clean sheet. Rayane also added to his skills by dribbling from deep to finish with a shot, Jude's positioning was excellent today while he was also strong and committed in every challenge, Alfie's key interceptions together with his improved distribution made him our Wolf of the Week, while Dominik's saves at key moments in the game were crucial to the outcome.

Congratulations to the whole team!

U14 Spitfires v Sarisbury Sparks

The boys came up against the team immediately below us in the league so crucial they got a positive result, and that they did.

After a couple of bad recent results we wanted the boys to get a result their efforts deserve and after a 1st half with very little chances for either team we went in 0-0 at the break.

2nd half we looked a better outfit moving the ball around nicely with a few chances being created but could not get that opening until…….. Harry Halligan after being tripped on 2 occasions kept the ball and out of frustration for not getting a foul kicked the ball away which landed perfectly at the feet of Harley Marjason who on the outside of the box looped his shot over their keeper into the back of the net. A lead the boys deserved.

Sarisbury got an equaliser against the run of the play but this fired the boys up who immediately responded when Charlie Gray’s mis-hit shot turned into an amazing assist landing perfectly for Ethan Cripps to poke home restoring our lead, 2-1.

This was the final score and some last ditch defending with players throwing their bodies on the line to keep Sarisbury out got the deserved win for the boys.

Some excellent performances today but what was pleasing was the togetherness in the 2nd half and determination to win.

POM went to Charlie Gray who was excellent with some great skills on show, superb assist and constant chasing/closing down all over the pitch. Special mention to Ethan Cripps who worked tirelessly upfront and got a goal his efforts deserved.

U14 AFC Stoneham Athletic away to Millbrook in the Hampshire cup.

Gutted for the lads to concede a late goal but we hope they are all as proud of themselves as we are of them. They fought for each other, worked hard with and without the ball and went toe to toe with Millbrook. Great attitude before, during and after the game Thanks as usual for the help running the line etc, to Charlie, who along with Toby had a great first competitive game, after stepping in late and to the United lads that supported.

Well done

Great performance by all of our teams who played....well done!!

SUNDAY ROUND UP: DEC 3RD

Sunday round up – 3rd December 2023

U8 Wolves v Wellow

The Wolves were looking to break out of a difficult patch of results with today's match against Wellow. Top scorer Ollie unavailable for this one so the boys were tasked with replacing his goal threat.

We started poorly and found ourselves 2 down early on with Wellow breaking the press and isolating Jacob 2v1. We soon got wise to it and worked our way back into Q1 when Harry made half a yard and drilled his shot into the corner. Shay led the line from the start and his physicality caused problems for the Wellow defense with Fyfe nearly benefitting from his hold up play on several occasions with long range efforts.

Jack, Vinnie and Louie came in for Q2 and adjusted our positions to a more defensive style and despite an onslaught from Wellow held firm with Jasper pulling off some fine stops and Jacob making some excellent tackles.

Wellow turned the screw in Q3 and took control of the game with a couple of excellent strikes from distance that gave Jasper no chance.

We still felt we could get back into the game and after a further worldie from Wellow, Jack broke free at pace and finished with style. From here the game ebbed and flowed with more goals at both ends. Louie closed down every ball from the front and Shay stepped forward from a defensive midfield position to hammer home for his first of the season. Fyfe, who had been trying his luck all day, lobbed the keeper with great technique but for every goal we mustered Wellow had another long ranger in their locker and could have had a couple more without Jasper's top drawer reflexes.

Another example of a pleasing performance with a disappointing result. We're seeing the things we're training happen on the pitch and playing good football, just getting unstuck by great shooting! Players of the Match went to Louie and Jacob today both sticking to their task calmly, winning the ball and getting us playing.

The Wolves will keep hunting!

U9 Eagles v AFC Stoneham Falcons

The rain cleared just in time for kick off of the first of two consecutive Stoneham v Stoneham games.

The Eagles used the occasion to showcase just how much they have developed since last season, both individually and as a team.

With an unbelievable work rate on show from them all, they moved up and down the pitch at a pace that most teams would struggle to compete with. It was particularly encouraging to see such impressive link up play, with one example certainly a contender for our best team goal of the season so far.

With 76 successfully completed passes between the team, it's unsurprising that we saw 6 different players with assists, well done James, Billy, Quinn, Jenson, Julius and Kian!

Albert had a fantastic afternoon in front of goal, creating numerous opportunities through determined drives down the left wing. Freddie, Kian and James also enjoyed their afternoon in the last third.

Harry bravely battled feeling under the weather and contributed with a couple of fantastic saves before the discomfort became too much for him, allowing Leo to kindly sacrifice his outfield quarter to support the team and protect our net.

Wali, Quinn and Jenson were resolute in winning the ball back in front of our goal and calmly starting off the flowing passes that took us up the pitch.

Well done Billy on a man of the match performance, centered on positive forward play, 12 successfully completed passes and 2 fine assists.

Finally, congratulations Wali on picking up November's Player of the Month trophy for his continual hard work, incredible attitude and dedicated application. November saw Wali make 7 critical tackles/interceptions and the defensive contribution to the team has really helped us push on in the last couple of months.

Go Eagles!

U12 Spitfires v Totton and Eling

The U12 Spitfires were back to their best with a great performance against Totton and Eling this morning. All of the boys played their part in a 8 nil victory playing some great football. Although not having many saves to make, keeper Carmel was on his toes to make some good clearances, as well as playing it out confidently from the back. Defenders James, Forbes and Adam were as solid as ever at the back, covering each other well, getting some good defensive headers in, and linking up well with the midfield. Alfie L and Alfie B controlled the centre of midfield, winning tackles, driving forwards and playing some great balls through to the strikers. Bushy and Tobias terrorised the Totton defence, making attacking runs down the wings and playing some great balls into the box. Strikers Freds, Ethan and Charlie held up the ball well, linked up well on a tight pitch, and made some penetrating runs. Alfie Lomas started the scoring in the first half with a great left foot strike into the top corner, soon followed by a goal from Freddie who brought the ball down well in the box, and composed himself before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner. Alfie L got his second of the game before half time, skilfully knocking the ball over the top of an advancing keeper. Totton started brightly in the second half with some good play. Bushy then made a great run down the left wing and crossed the ball across the face of the goal where Alfie L was running in to score his hat trick. Bushy then scored two outstanding goals with his trusty left foot, smashing the ball across the keeper into the corner of the net. Defender James then got in on the act with a confident penalty, and then made a driving run into the box to smash the ball into the net to make it 8 nil. The Totton keeper should be commended for some great saves throughout the match. Man of the match went to Alfie L for his runs from midfield and his three goals. Well done boys.

U13 Jaguars 2 - 6 Bursledon Supernovas

For the second successive game the Jaguars left it until half time to start to play, surrendering a 4-0 goal league in meek fashion before the interval.

Both collectively and individually the Jaguars walked their way through the first half, and were found wanting as a defensive unit.

The second half was a markedly different affair. Charlie sparkled after being switched to the wide right position and he, Matteo, Jamie, Freddie and Tyler worked some wonderful combinations. The Jaguars struck first: Tiago’s corner was drilled in, and with Daniel’s run to the near post drawing the defenders, the ball landed at the feet of Matteo whose finish kissed the underside of the bar. Despite another individual defensive mistake leading to the hosts’ fifth goal, the Jaguars continued to play some really wonderful following football, often with Tyler as the fulcrum, particularly down the right side, and following an overlap from Jamie, Charlie started a move and then finished it with aplomb, lobbing the goalkeeper from 20 yards. Another defensive mistake shortly after handed Bursledon their sixth goal, but it didn’t deter the Jaguars who carved out numerous other good chances with their two and three touch football.

A deeply frustrating first half and a second half display full of offensive menace and controlled football. If the Jaguars can be more consistent in their approach to the game from the outset then the results will follow.

U14 Sharks 6 – 2 Hedge End Falcons

MotM - Crofton

PMotM - McPherson

Fantastic performance today, probably the best performance yet with every player playing well and genuinely contributing. Three players were stuck in traffic so we played the first 20 mins with 10 players. Despite this, we held our own and looked the more likely to score until a shot from distance caught on the wind and lobbed Whitelock dipping in just under the bar, not much he could do about it.

Immediately afterwards, our additional players arrived and with a full 11 on the pitch, we dominated the game thereafter. We immediately started to create lots of chances and were unfortunate not to score on a few occasions. 31 minutes in, Crofton put in a lovely cross which beat the keeper and left Naderi with the easiest of tap-ins at the back post.

9 minutes after halftime, a great bit of skill and a lovely ball through by Hallett put Naderi through on goal and his powerful shot was too much for the keeper to deal with and went in off the underside of the bar.

Very much against the run of play, Hedge End then drew level at 2-2 with a goal on the break. A few minutes later, McPherson sent in a lovely corner kick and Ali was able to get onto the loose ball and calmly slotted the ball in the far corner for his first goal of the season.

Three minutes later, a careless foul led to a freekick on the edge of the opponents box. Crofton took the freekick, beat the keeper and found the top left corner of the net.

Naderi had another chance on the break, when he lobbed the keeper but the keeper then took his legs out in the air for a penalty. Naderi then stepped up and blasted his shot into the bottom left corner giving the keeper no chance.

In one of the last plays of the game, Ali neatly sidestepped in the box drawing a foul by the defender. McPherson stepped up for the penalty and calmly slotted the ball in the bottom right corner, sending the keeper the wrong way.

MotM went to Crofton who was really strong in all areas of the pitch today. McPherso earned PMotM for his phenomenal work rate, popping up everywhere, creating multiple chances and getting his penalty goal.

Naderi is now clear top goalscorer in the league.

Amazing job today Sharks, a thoroughly deserved win.

Thank you Hedge End for a great game. We wish you the best of luck for the rest of the season.

Well done to all of our teams!

WOMENS FA CUP: AWAY TO PLYMOUTH ARGYLE

26/11/23

Womens FA Cup - 2nd round

Plymouth Argyle 4

AFC Stoneham 2

Scorers: Lucas and Delaney

Firstly, we need to give some perspective.

Plymouth play three leagues above our girls and are only two promotions from the Women's Super League. They beat a team from our level 13-0 in the last round and our club has never been in round two of the FA Cup before.

Clearly the girls did not want to suffer an embarrassing result and therefore defended stoutly in a very organised fashion for most of the game although found themselves 4-0 down after 85 minutes which would have been a great result in honesty having been 2-0 down at half time.

Then what happened was very nearly unbelievable

Suddenly we took the game to Plymouth and Susani Lucas struck on 85 minutes before, after great work from Chloe Andrews, Mia Delaney struck on 88 minutes.4-2

Then Chloe Melton has a goal disallowed on 90 minutes for 4-3 when clearly onside. This did leave a feeling of "if only" however had we not set up as we did before the last 10 minutes or so we may possibly have been further behind.

The girls lost the game 4-2 but in truth there was only one team that "won" today. Our girls from AFC Stoneham.

To say they were a huge credit to our club both on and off the pitch would be a huge understatement. To those that were there and enjoyed the day, we were privileged.

Our club are bursting with pride tonight and very proud of every girl that pulled on a purple shirt today.

Thank you to everyone of you

25/11/23

Womens FA Cup - 2nd round

Plymouth Argyle v AFC Stoneham

Our Ladies first team make history on Sunday by competing in the 2nd round of the FA Cup for the first time in 105 years

The team has already won through three rounds which is a fantastic achievement.

Tomorrows task is a huge one against a club that play three levels above ourselves and are only two promotions off the Womens Super League. They progressed to this round by winning 13-0 in the last round.

To put this in perspective if anyone had said this game was possible some five years ago when our ladies were in the Hampshire Womens County League Division 3 they would have been laughed at. Tomorrow it's reality.

The magic of the FA Cup!

Everyone at AFC Stoneham is super proud of the girls and whatever happens they will enjoy a wonderful day and a fantastic experience.

Everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Good luck girls!!

SCOTT HILLS

Scott Hills

The club wishes to announce the departure of Scott Hills to Alresford Town

Scott has played 268 games for the club scoring 88 goals over a nine year period and was top scorer in the Wessex Premier League during season 2019/20.

Scott's commitment, attitude, work rate and persona over that nine year period epitomises our club and its values.

We are very sad to lose Scott however at this time he feels that he will gain more game time at Alresford who are an excellent club.

Scott has been on the journey with us over nine years making his debut in November 2014 at Stockbridge on, with respect, a very muddy pitch in the middle of nowhere whilst we were a mid table Hampshire League team.

Like many others at that time, he probably never envisaged that we would be where we are today and would have experienced the many wonderful memories that we have done during that fantastic journey.

Scott Hills has been pivotal to that journey and a huge contributor to our continued progress and success.

He will be missed by everyone at the club however he knows that the door is always open and both him and his family will be warmly welcomed back at AFC Stoneham at anytime.

We wish Scott the very best of luck at Alresford.

NOV14: Hampshire Senior Cup AFC Stoneham 1 Southampton 2

Hampshire FA Senior Cup

Oyekunle(2)

The boys put on a very good performance but narrowly lost out to a youthful Southampton side in front of nearly 600 supporters.

We were one down in a couple of minutes when Nick Oyekunle seized on a short back pass however we then had the better of the first half but missed good chances and Jefferies in the Saints goal denied us on more than one occasion.

Saints doubled their lead on 64 minutes when a ball hit a hand in the box allowing Oyekunle to score from the penalty spot.

The boys then took the game to Saints and, again, the keeper pulled off some excellent saves whilst we still missed good chances.

Yumo Wan scored on 85 minutes to reduce the deficit and we still had time to create two more chances before the final whistle.

A game that we probably deserved more from and put on a very good performance on a great night for the club.

We would like to send a huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the boys.

OCT 28: YOUTH ROUND UP

SATURDAY ROUND UP

Saturday 28/10/23 match report

Let’s start with our U7’s…

AFC STONEHAM OWLS vs WHITELEY WANDERES YOUTH WARRIORS

With depleted teams on both sides due to half term holidays & illness, the boys had to work extra hard.

Max was back in goal, and made some terrific saves with his hands & feet!

Lucas scored the first of 3 goals for the Owls, Luca followed with another 2. One being a penalty which he cooly slotted in.

Ted & Finley in midfield made some great tackles and through balls and keep the Warriors battling.

Luca & Archie played all 4 matches, no signs of tiredness from them.

Man of the match went to Captain Archie for his solid effort in defence.

U9’s…

AFC STONEHAM SHARKS V DENMEAD.

The boys are really starting to form as a team, after a rocky few weeks, we are starting to see the results come from the boys, with the strength, passing, shooting and team playing.

Todays game was quite evenly matched, and both teams battled hard.

Noah and Owen who are great shot stoppers and kept the boys in the game with the braveness of being in goal.

Robert, George Yassar and Keaton where superb in there performance in defences, made some big tackles, good passing out from the back and communication.

Across middle we had Mathew, Max, Keon and Logan who managed to string some good passes together, working as a team, making good runs off the ball, and some great through balls played.

Our strikers for today where Carter and Daniel. Carter ran endless helping out the midfield when needed, using his great strength, Daniel was great in his hunting the ball down.

There was some great shots from all the lads today. We are looking to carry on our string of food performances upto th E Christmas break

Man of match - Carter

Oppositional player - Keon

Big shout out to Jade and Mark, who work hard with the boys, planning session and making sure every one has fair game time, and making sure all the boys play with a smile on there faces.

U10’s..

AFC STONEHAM Lionessess vs STUBBING U10 NIGHTINGALES.

Great game today for the lionessess. 3 players away, but this meant lots of game time

We were a bit slow to start but some fantastic defending, great movement and we started to relax.

We went a couple of goals down, but continued to work hard. Remembering our passing and moving drills, creating some fantastic spaces.

Then, 2 goals in 2 mins! Cracking goal from Renae to put us on the score sheet, then a lovely calm finish from Dulcie

We may not have gotten the rest from the score line, but the team effort, listening and working hard with some fantastic football at times was definitely a win for the girls

Well done to Skye for Parents Player and Rose for Opposition Player

U13’s..

AFC STONEHAM LIONESSES V SOUTHAMPTON WOMEN

Young Lionesses played a very good Southampton team who was very clinical in the first half going 3goals up.. Giving themselves a massive challenge in the second.

They quickly grabbed a goal from Olivia giving themselves a great opportunity.

The girls were totally dominate in the second half Lola simper powered through giving the girls hope.

Symonds added a worldie from the halfway line ..

Lionesses continued to dominate and credit to Southampton women’s goalie pulling off a few late saves..

A draw was definitely a fair reflection on the game keep up the good work girls

U14’s..

AFC STONEHAM UNITED V ANDOVER FTC

It was a very close game that could have gone either way, we went behind early on and were always chasing the game which led to Andover getting 2 in the final quarter as we were pushing higher and higher.

The boys played some really good football, hit the cross bar twice and the post so if any of those went in it would have been a completely different game.

What we said to work on for next time is being on it from the start, make the opposition chase us.

PoM went to Hamid for his unrelenting hassle, winning the ball back all over the pitch and driving forward it was also great to see Alfie and Jonjo get their first minutes for us, both having strong performances

AFC STONEHAM ATHLETIC V LJR

An early start for a day trip to the Isle of White.

The lads played the best football we've seen from them this season. Dictated play from minute one and used the width superbly to pull our opponents apart.

Were never out of posession long due to the disciplined narrow shape the boys are getting better and better at, filling gaps and working as a unit to stop opponents breaking through.

And on the odd occasion they did get through, our back line was immense.

Fair play to the opposition goalkeeper who kept the score down to six.

A massive well done to the above teams who didn’t allow the weather to take over their games & massive well done to all of our other teams who enjoyed their games

OCT 22: WOMENS FA CUP Royal Wootton Bassett 0 AFC Stoneham 1

Womens FA Cup - 3rd qualifying round

Royal Wootton Bassett Town 0

AFC Stoneham 1

Scorer: Moody 66mins

Our ladies won a tight and tense FA Cup encounter today which was probably always going to be decided by one goal.

Although the girls were undoubtedly deserved winners the game could have gone either way and the deciding moment was a cracking 35 yard free kick from midfielder Rebecca Moody on 66 minutes.

The girls now progress to the FA Cup first round proper for the third consecutive season and worked extremely hard today to record a superb result and, as always, were a huge credit to our club.

We thank Royal Wootton Bassett for their excellent hospitality and wish them the very best of luck for the season.

Well done girls !!

AFC STONEHAM 6 BOURNEMOUTH FC 0

AFC Stoneham vs Bournemouth Match Report

Big scorelines are becoming ever so increasingly familiar with James’ side now, with Tuesdays empathic 6-0 victory over Phil Brown’s poppies a very appropriate response to the frustrating result and performance away at Hamble at the weekend. Duarte added 2 to his already impressive season goal tally as an controversial Owen Fee penalty, a clinical finish from Clarke and a double from Tyrell Sampson made the overall scoreline a pleasing one for the home side.

For the first 20 minutes of the encounter neither side were able to obtain full control of the game, with Clarkes opening goal coming somewhat against the run of play. Bournemouth's only significant chances came before the opener with the side very much on the back foot for the rest of the game after conceding. Things got immediately very bad for Tuesday's opponents, after the ref sent Dan Bradford of Bournemouth off the field after conceding a penalty and antagonising the ref, that saw his side 2-0 down and down to 10 men. A heated response from Bournemouth's players and management after the controversial penalty saw the ref draw another red this time for one of the management team.

Stoneham were able to capitalise on their frustrated opponents and having an extra man on the pitch as Duarte slotted in a brilliant ball from Nagle to make it 3 to the hosts. Duarte repeated the trick minutes later, this time heading in a Ryan Cluett header to give the side a very comfortable 4 goal lead going into the break.

The second half was even more energetic than the first with the purps eager to add to the scoreline. Several missed opportunities came before Tyrell Sampson made it 5 to continue his illustrious form in purple this season. A close shot from Jim Orvis was followed by another goal from Sampson to make it his brace and 6 for his side.

Overall Phill Brown will reflect on yet another heavy defeat for his side who now have a fairly poor defensive record this season, whilst James Phillips will be delighted with yet another flurry of goals from his side, who have been brutal in front of goal in the league this season.

WEEKEND ROUND UP:SUN OCT 8TH

U8 Tigers v AFC Totton

Another Sunday afternoon thriller for the parents today in a very close 3-3 draw with a talented AFC Totton team. A game that swung back and forth ended up with us scoring a last-minute equaliser and even nearly nicking it at the death. Boys showed unbelievable character to keep going after a lot went against them throughout.  The boys are showing a great togetherness at the moment, keep it up Tigers! 🐅

MOTM: Finn Western, some unbelievable saves at an important time for the team today and is improving week by week into a top keeper. Well played, Finners! 🧤

U8 Panthers v Colden Common

Well done today boys. It was a great team effort against a decent Colden Common team. The boys are really starting to pass the ball around now even on that poor pitch. The most pleasing thing is the link up play starting from the GK, through defence, to midfield and then up to the forwards. You are all getting your head up and passing.

Man of the match was Jacob. His footwork was excellent today, passing out to the wings and nearly scored from a Goal Kick. Well done, Jacob. Well done all of you. Special mention to Evan with his hat-trick and Edison, Harley and Matthew all with magical moments.

U8 Jaguars v Chamberlayne Youth

On an unseasonably hot day, the Jaguars returned to play on the grass at Stoneham. Samuel started in defence making solid tackles as usual. Within a couple of minutes of the start, he passed to Lucas and onto Captain Cooper to score the Jaguars’ first goal of the game. Lucas continued to make great runs past a couple of players with the ball and got through to Joseph whose attempts were blocked at close range by the Chamberlayne defenders.  Freddie, who was taking his turn in goal, was a safe pair of hands taking the ball calmly at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, Walter started the half by making some great tackles winning the ball back on several occasions. Cooper took a strike from out wide, which screamed across the goal. Harry made some confident saves both from open play and corners. Harry’s goal kick ended up in the opposition’s box and Freddie was almost on hand to knock it home.  Walter and Samuel showed great resilience under pressure and both were unlucky not to score in this quarter – both just going wide of the post.

The third quarter saw Walter in goal. Harry was going end to end, making brilliant runs down the line. When Walter got stranded, Harry cleared the ball off the goal-line and then took the ball almost the whole length of the pitch to cross to Freddie who scored the Jaguars’ second. Harry not only powerfully scored the Jaguars’ third goal in this half, but he was also getting back to defend well. Samuel was strongly tackled by a Chamberlayne player leaving him temporarily on the floor, but he managed to keep the ball, got up, ran past two players and smashed the ball home. The Jaguars’ conceded at the end of the quarter swiftly followed by Lucas on a fabulous run, then striking just wide of the post.

The last quarter of the game, saw Joseph in goal and having to face a penalty not long into the quarter. The shot hit the crossbar and Joseph managed to get a knee to it and then stopped the next shot a few seconds later. Chamberlayne pulled one more goal back, which was sent top-corner.

A great team performance today for the Jaguars. Man of the match was Samuel!

U8 Wolves v Stoneham Falcons

After a competitive start to the season, the Wolves have found it tough the last couple of games but a setback is a setup for a comeback. Stoneham derbies are always special and the Falcons have been trying to find their way in this league too so both teams were highly motivated to find that win.

An attack of Ollie, Harry and Fyfe opened the match, playing some good combinations and running at players with intent and reacting fast to the action. Harry put in a real warrior's display, winning the ball and driving into space.
Ollie's skilful dribbling made him a handful and he twice twisted into a shooting position and finished well both times. Fyfe's passing range gave us a terrific weapon enabling him to bypass the Falcon press. Shay was a wall at the back in first quarter and took care of multiple Falcons attacks. The Falcons played some good football and posed a threat from distance, outlined by an outrageous strike from halfway.

Jacob took over in defence and kept things simple, clearing his lines well but also recovering the ball for his team on several occasions in a typically solid display.
Jack and Louie provided the culture and energy in midfield, whilst Vinnie pressed brilliantly from the front. His finish when the chance came was absolutely clinical. The whole team worked brilliantly in triangles to create chance after chance. Louie's aggressive running down the wing was devastating and he provided two fantastic assists for Jack who had probably his best game in a purple shirt, scoring a fantastic hattrick, the third from a great through ball from Jacob. Jasper in goal pulled off some great saves throughout including a world class dive to his left towards the end.

A genuinely superb match that neither team deserved to lose and so it was with seconds on the clock the Falcons pressured and got the equaliser. The Falcons boys look very tidy and well organised and no doubt they'll keep getting better from here. We're really delighted with that performance, everything we've worked on in training was applied brilliantly.
Players of the Match could have been every single player but Jack and Louie were top class for the Wolves today.

U9 Panthers v Winsor United Red

A tough game for the Panthers today. After a tight first quarter, both teams battled throughout.
The opposition pressed hard and didn’t give the boys much time on the ball. They took their chances and defended well.
A lovely goal scored by Luca today with Freddie taking Man of the Match for his grit and determination throughout the game.

Stoneham U9 Eagles v Littleton Cosmos

The Stoneham boys came out strong from the get go. Scoring several brilliant goals in the first quarter. The Eagles dominated the field in all 4 quarter, even when Littleton had all their players on the field in 2 of the quarters, our 7 players still made spaces, defended well and scored goals!
James had a great game scoring 4, Freddie got a hat-trick which was well deserved, then Kian coming up with 2 great goals in the last quarter.
Albert scored an absolute powerhouse goal, plus Leo and Billy scored crackers as well.

Littleton scored 2 own goals that took Eagles to 14 goals. Littleton came back with 2 goals and their team were gracious in their defeat - not letting it get the team down, very impressive boys!

As always, our defence was strong with special mentions to Jenson who worked hard near the back with Wali and Quinn for support at all times.

Harry had a clean sheet this week and Leo made some great saves when it was his turn in goal. Julius assisted some of the goals and ensured he was an annoyance to their defence by finding spaces and making great crosses.

Kian won man of the match, which was well deserved and as always the boys worked as a unit and it showed on the pitch throughout the game.
We done boys, up the purps !!!!

U10 Hurricanes v Hamble Club Typhoons

Our Winning streak in Blue 2 continues with a win against a very good Hamble team.  A great hat trick from Frankie secured the win of our last game in Blue 2… White 2 here we come! 💜⚽️

The boys have managed a fantastic 22 goals so far this season… GK Cedric is a machine 💪🏼
4 league games … 240 minutes of football… only 3 goals got past him.

Proud what the boys have accomplished so far this season.

U12 Wolves v Future of Football Wizards (home) Hants Cup Rd 1
Wolves are out of the Hampshire Cup but the scoreline of 1-6 does not reflect the incredible effort from all the boys, both in preparing for and during the game, against an unbeaten Wiltshire side from five divisions above our current level, and in which a shock result was still a possibility until midway through the second half.
In 23c heat, the boys closed down and pressed at every opportunity to restrict the magical Wizards to a single first half goal, with Talal and Adam working especially hard in supporting both the defence and the attack from their wider positions while Ahmed was once again a battler in the middle of the pitch.
Dominik was on top form in goal including making four incredible saves to keep us in the game, making him our Wolf of the Week.
In the second half it was a long kick from Dominik that set Ahmed free to create a goal for Muhammed bringing us to 1-3, after which we threatened another before the Wizards finally found more tricks up their sleeves to see the game through.
Every Wolf can be happy with themselves today for their work rate and commitment, for learning and applying a more defensive system in the first half, adapting well to their more familiar system in the second, and for staying determined to the end in what will have been a great and worthwhile experience for our boys. We are proud of you all!

U12 Spitfires v  AFC Totton

The U12 Stoneham Spitfires showed good character today to come from behind twice to beat AFC Totton 2-5. A competitive first half was goalless with chances for both teams. In the second half after a bright start from Stoneham, AFC Totton took the lead after their striker was put clean through on goal. The Spitfires replied straight from kick off with a goal from Alfie Lomas. Totton then had a long range effort expertly saved by keeper Carmel before they then went 2-1 up with another long range effort, this time dipping below the crossbar. After a good spell from Totton, captain James took control with a powerful run forward into the box to hit the ball into the corner of the net to equalise. Another penetrating run from James soon after resulted in a penalty after he was taken down in the penalty area. A powerful shot from the spot by Alfie L was saved well by the Totton goalkeeper, but Freddie followed up well to make it 2-3. Ethan then scored a great goal, smashing the ball into the roof of the net with a one on one with the keeper. The match was secured near the end after a pin point cross from Bushy was well headed in by Charlie. The Spitfires battled well with no subs against a good AFC Totton team. Man of the match went to captain James for turning the match with two powerful runs forward from the back.

AFC Stoneham Jaguars U13 3-4 Littleton U13 Galaxy

The Jaguars provided a hugely improved performance on the previous week, despite the disappointment of losing to a late goal in a seven-goal thriller.

Perhaps it was the early kick off time, but the home team seem to start in sleepy fashion. Regardless, they took the lead through a really well-worked routine: Archie floated in a free-kick, Taylor flicked the ball on for John to run on to, who then intelligently played the ball across the six-yard box for Tiago to tap in at the back post.

The visitors hit back almost immediately and then within the space of a few minutes took the lead, capitalising on some slack marking. That goal seems to finally waken the Jaguars who began to implement the game plan of utilising the wide men, and Tiago, a thorn in the side of the visitors all game, found Harry in the box who finished coolly to level the scores, capping an outstanding personal performance. Despite the momentum generated by the equaliser, it was Littleton who retook the lead when a long shot through a sea of bodies left Fin with no chance. With the half time whistle in the referees’ mouth, the Jaguars showed their resolve by equalising yet again: great work from Tyler saw him thread a ball through to Tiago who grabbed his second of the game with a deft finish.

The second half was a dominant display by the Jaguars who took almost complete control of the game. Daniel and Isaac shored up the defence, Josh and Harry were tenacious in the tackle and intelligent with their use of the ball with quick transitions, and the forwards, led by Freddie, asked questions that the visitors struggled to find answers to. The home team created chance after chance with Tyler, Freddie and John unable to finish off good team moves. Jamie fashioned a chance for himself by pressing the full back, only to see his shot cannon off the bar, and a wonderful corner by Archie somehow evaded everybody to skim past the far post. Unfortunately, the Jaguars profligacy in front of goal came back to bite them when just before the end a defensive error saw the Littleton forward put the ball into an empty net for the winner. It was a tough result to take, but the performance has set the standard for the coming weeks.

Hampshire Cup
Hythe & Dibden Sharks U14 Vs AFC Stoneham Spitfires U14

A complete performance from the Spitfires saw us run out 7-0 winners in the Hampshire cup.

A first half hat trick from Harry Halligan which included a 25yrd free kick. Ethan Cripps won’t score many easier goals as he pressures the goal keeper into a mistake to poke home from a few yards out. Oliver Drew unselfishly puts the ball on a plate with only the keeper to beat for Charlie Gray to finish from 5yrds. HT 0-5.

Second half was a more fiery affair, but the Spitfires continued, or at least tried to play actual football, the same cannot be said about the opposition. Rohan Raj brilliantly followed up a Charlie Maguire free kick to tap home before Ethan Cripps grabbed his second of the day and probably the pick of the bunch. Dribbling from deep past several players forcing the keeper into a good save only for it to fall kindly back to Ethan who stroked home with his left foot.

Player of the match was Oliver Drew who seemed to enjoy his more attacking role from midfield, a great assist in the first half and a consistent outlet for which we built our attacks from. A proper captain’s performance.

U14 Panthers v Baffins Milton Rovers

Under 14 Panthers played away against a very strong Baffins Milton Rovers team this morning in the Hampshire cup and although we played well and battled hard, we fell to our first defeat and we have to admit Baffins deserved it.

Hamble United U18 vs Spitfires U18

The boys travelled to Hamble for our 1st away game if the season and put in great performance as a team.

Missing our goalie and only having 1 recognised CB in the 2nd the boys worked hard for each other in the heat. Against the run of play we found ourselves behind midway through the 1st half from a long ball. The boys kept the heads up and got back to playing our style and a great run then finish by Aaron Batista got the boys deservedly level for half time.

The second half was much the same in that we controlled the game but again we fell behind only to respond with an equaliser when Taylor Waters cooly slotting home to put us level. It seemed a matter of time until we went in front and a few shots going close in a stop/start spell but just could not find that goal, until……….a scramble in the box and the ball fell to William Drew who got his 1st goal in purple to put us in front which the boys fully deserved.

The boys defended well to see out the victory and deserved the win. Special mentions to Taylor Waters & Sam Lawrie for playing a half each in goal and Aaron Batista for a make shift CB for the 2nd half. All were excellent.   POM went to Harry Rasor who was solid in defence and calm on the ball throughout.
