Petersfield Town match report

AFC Stoneham edge past a resilient Petersfield side on penalties and are through to the

next round of the Russell Cotes Cup.

There was nothing to separate the two sides after a foggy and cold 90 minutes, resulting in

the game going straight to penalties, where Stoneham won 5-4 and sealed their place in the

next round.

It was an evenly contested first 10 minutes with both teams looking lively, however there

wasn’t much goal mouth action.

A long ball forward by goalkeeper Parker-Trott caused problems early on when it was flicked

on by Martins to Cleary, who’s shot was fumbled by the keeper and his rebounded effort

was blazed past the post.

Lewis Nagle was also a handful for defenders with his driving runs, with one of them

resulting in a promising free kick whipped in by Orvis, but Martins’ header just went wide of

the right-hand post.

Martins had another chance soon after following good link-up play with Cleary, but his shot

from the edge of the box was fired just high and wide, nearly nestling in the top corner.

Petersfield had a frighteningly quick front three, and they came close to opening the scoring

when Orepo’s fizzed in cross found the feet of Balde-Djuara, but his shot was also off target.

Stoneham had a good chance to take the lead just before half-time, but goalkeeper Wilson

tipped over a fierce shot from Callaghan, meaning his side went into the break level.

Half Time: AFC Stoneham 0-0 Petersfield Town

The second half started slowly and neither team were creating too many chances, so

Stoneham looked to the bench in the 63 rd minute and replaced Callaghan for Scott Hills, who

created an instant impact.

His authoritative runs were a problem for their fullbacks, and he managed to create a

shooting opportunity for himself in the 67 th minute, but his powerful effort sailed past the

post and allowed their defence to take a breather.

The visitors did enjoy a spell of possession, but the Stoneham defence was organised and in

good shape, limiting their opportunities

The Purps did have the ball in the net in the 80 th minute after a fantastic header from

Martins, however the referee deemed Martins to have nudge the defender and was quick to

give a free kick, with no real complaints by the players.

There were good chances towards the end of the game for both teams, with the first falling

to Martins again, who’s swivelled effort just missed the target.

Then in the 90 th minute of the game, a ball in from their number three found the head of

their captain, who’s looping header seemed to go over Parker-Trott in slow motion and

luckily went just over the bar, meaning that the game ended goalless and goes straight to

penalties.

Petersfield Town preview

AFC Stoneham host Division One side Petersfield Town in the Russell Cotes Cup on Wednesday 30th November with a 7:45pm kick-off.

 AFC Stoneham:

Stoneham come into this game off the back of a hard-fought 4-2 home win against an improved United Services Portsmouth side last Saturday.

Goals from Clarke, Bulpitt, Orvis, and Cleary were enough to seal the victory for the Purps and help maintain their good form, which they will hope to take with them into the cup.

They faced another Division One side in the previous round of this tournament, sweeping aside Fleet Town 4-1 at home courtesy of goals from Callaghan, Evans, Hills and Martins.

However, they know it won’t be an easy task against an in-form Petersfield side, who got the better of Stoneham in their last meeting.

 Petersfield Town:

Nicknamed the Rams, Division One Petersfield come into this game off the back of a 1-1 draw at home to Totton &Eling.

They currently sit 4th in their league and are experiencing a great run of form, being unbeaten in seven games in all competitions.

The previous round of this cup saw them beat title contenders Andover New Street 2-0 away from home, thanks to goals from Greenough and top scorer Barsa, who has eight goals this season.

The away side will look to take their league form into this cup match and cause an upset by defeating a team in the league above them and seal their place in the next round.

Sunday Round Up

On a rain effected day

Panthers U8 vs. Bursledon Youth U9 Stars

The rain held off for our mid-afternoon match against Bursledon Youth U9 Stars. Solid start to the game with some great passing, attacking and defending by all, it really was end-to-end stuff. So much so we held a level score right through to the start of the third quarter. Hayden finally got us on the score sheet with a goal at the start of the third quarter. This was then followed by another goal from Fred. Bursledon were not giving up that easily as they fought back hard. Thanks to some awesome saves from Oscar in goal, we managed to stay two goals up. Into the fourth quarter more goals kept coming with a goal from Cooper (assisted by Jack) and another from Hayden. As we were leading, Bursledon bought on an extra player. This helped them as they gained a goal back. Nevertheless, before the final whistle Jack managed to grab the final goal of the game with a great assist from his team mate Fred. This has to be one of the best games spectators have witnessed this season so far. There were some mighty battles on both sides however the boys kept going right to the final whistle. Logan was strong in defence with him also having a crack on goal when the opportunity came. Vinnie was also a menace in defence, stopping everything that came his way and making some great clearances. Billy was strong with some great passes down the wing along with his defensive play and Manny was good up front waiting to follow up with the perfect through ball. Player of the day went to Cooper for being strong and for his unselfish play especially in the second quarter.

U9 Panthers

Unlucky today boys. Thought our workrate and movement was excellent today and if it wasn’t for their giant of a keeper, we would have scored at least 3 goals. They passed the ball round well and that was what lead to the two goals and our players not tracking back or ball watching so must concentrate better. However, on reflection, we deserved something out of that game.

Man of the match was Jenson, apart from his magical moment, he was a menace going forward and nearly replicated Maradona’s wonder goal against England, taking on the whole of the team.

Well done Jenson. Well done all of you today. Keep the workrate up.

U9 Spitfires

U9 Spitfires played their final game before moving up to the top league against Littleton Cyclones. A very slow start by the boys found themselves behind but immediately got back level through Elliott Finch from the spot. Littleton were the better team until half time and deservedly went in ahead.

The boys then upped their level and started to control the game and Brody Hibberd & Mazen Ismael found their shooting boots.

Good end to the game as we now prepare for going up against the best at this level.

Well done Spitfires.

U11 Spitfires

Another positive game for the U11 Spitfires today with a dominant performance. Freds got the scoring started in the first few minutes with a great header from a corner. More goals then came in the third and fourth quarters from Ethan, Charlie, Forbes, Zach and Alfie B. The boys limited pace to very few opportunities, with the opposition finally scoring from a free kick in the last minute. James picked up man of the match after yet another solid performance at the back.

U11 Wolves

Our Wolves put on a brave performance today. Playing against a well organised team who had started the season two groups above us in Blue 2, Wolves began very brightly and were easily on top throughout the first quarter with Jude and Fuku in control of midfield, often cleverly bringing Adam and Muhammed into play on the wings with Harry once again providing excellent back up to Muhammed down the right, and half chances were soon created for first Frankie and then Dash.

A forced change in the second quarter then upset the shape of the team from which they never recovered while for the second week running a single fast direct forward was able to outrun our full backs with punishing effect.

There was however a moment of glory for Harry as he successfully grabbed a brief opportunity to move into wide midfield during the second half.

Evan returned to his favoured left midfield today and took up some excellent attacking positions while Rayane showed alot of grit when returning to defensive midfield to plug a central hole.

Wolf of the Week is Alfie who has been at his very best at Centre Back ever since our move up to Yellow 1, strong, fast and determined, he is now leading our back line with intelligence and purpose.

Our Ladies Development squad got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Andover New Street .

Well done guys !

Saturday Round Up

U7 Hurricanes

A great game for Hurricanes today, we got off to a brilliant start and kept the momentum going til the very end, great passing and defending from all, each player had a moment of magic, lovely to see players mixing it up with positions, the boys played with great determination today, and should be rightly proud of them selves.

Parents Player went to Leo with 3 magical moments and MOTM went to Caleb with 3 magical moments

U7 Tigers

AFC Stoneham Tigers had another exciting game today against a good physical side .The Team played well and are relishing the challenges put in front of them each week.

Today's MOTM Alex

U7 Wolves

A real progress report for the Wolves today as they met Hedge End in a repeat of the first game of the season. The boys came flying out of the blocks today and early bird Vinnie was played in by Louie to get us going. Vinnie turned provider shortly after with a great tackle and run before shifting it to Harry who took his chance calmly. We controlled the midfield and used the space on the pitch brilliantly today and Fyfe was instrumental in this. Louie and Harry were their usual combative selves and gave Vinnie and Ollie license to cause trouble for the Hedge End defense. We talked about being cool and taking the time to make our chances count and we did that today. We didn't have it all our way though and at the back Jacob snuffed out attack after attack, winning the ball, moving into safer areas and getting us moving forward again. The whole game Hedge End only broke through our lines twice, the first forced an outstanding double save from Harry and the second time an excellent piece of skill and unstoppable strike from their forward.

Pleasingly, the lads managed their energy really well and we finished the game strongly with Ollie producing a fine moment to give the team what their recent performances have deserved. Players of the match could have gone to anyone but Paulo Maldini and Andrea Pirlo, oops Jacob and Fyfe got the awards this week. Super stuff Wolves

U9 Rovers

U9 Rovers played our final game of the ‘completion games’ against our very own Athletic. Slow start from the boys found us behind from a looping free kick but immediately replied through Henry Polkinghorne who then got his 2nd soon after.

In the 2nd third the boys dominated and quickly got themselves a 3 goal lead through a brace by Brody Hibberd and controlled the whole third.

The final third was a bit more even but a Chase Marjason brace completed a great win for the boys which ended a great competition.

Really pleased with all the boys efforts today and POM could of gone to any of the boys but Brody Hibberd took the award.

Well done Rovers.

U11 Lionesses

With the U11 Lionesses going into todays game missing 2 important outfield players in Millie & Hettie alongside our phenomenal goalkeeper Scarlett the girls pulled together with a fantastic team spirit.

With incredible team work starting in defence through to attack the girls played some fantastic football and found themselves 2 goals up at half time thanks to a brace from Lola.

Upon the restart, the girls found themselves again in control of the game, and April soon found the net to score her first league goal of the season before Lola complete her Hat-trick with a great finish into the bottom corner.

Unfortunately a penalty to the opponents in the last few minutes was cooly finished by their striker to complete the scoring and the game ending with us a 4-1 victors!

Huge thanks to both Eliana & Ava for playing a half in goal each - you were both brilliant

Player of the Match today went to the incredible Ava, first half she won every tackle and played some nice passes and second half turned into our very own Mary Earps in goal making some great saves! You should be very proud

U11 Girls

AFC Stoneham Girls Panthers 4

Waltham Wolves 1

The Panthers bounced back from their first defeat of the season with a convincing win.

The Panthers took an early lead when a Jess H cross/shot was dropped by the visitors keeper and Aimee tapped home the rebound.

The Panthers had several chances saved before Waltham created their first opening when a shot from the edge of the box was well saved by Abigail.

The Panthers continued to dominate but the game changed when Georgia (much to her annoyance) was moved upfront.

It took only a few minutes for her to make the score 2-0 when beating the keeper with a tidy finish after collecting the ball on the right of the area.

Georgia scored her second with a similar finish to make the score 3-0 before the break.

The second half started as a midfield battle with Mirela, Mimi, Emily and Lyra working hard. A cross from Lyra was deflected into her own goal by an opposing defender to make the score 4-0.

The parity rule came into play and the defence of Ilyse, Victoria and Rosie did well to prevent any chances for Waltham.

Eventually, a long range shot bounced into the net giving Abigail no chance to make the score 4-1.

Away team POM - Mirela

Parents POM - Georgia

Managers POM - Mimi

U18 Girls Scorpions

So proud of the girls in a great game in the plate game v a strong Portchester team.

Coming away 5-1 winners.

2 great performers from Rhea Fernandes and Terri Butler as stand in keepers. 2 Goals from Mia Garwin, 1 from Hannah Webb, Acacia Rogers and Violet Alen.

Well done to all of our Purple teams on Saturday !!

US Portsmouth match report

AFC Stoneham survived a late scare and came from behind to beat United Services Portsmouth 4-2 in an action-packed contest.

The opening 10 minutes saw both teams have an equal share of possession but not really test any of the two goalkeepers, with the first shot from U.S Portsmouth’s Luke Richards being comfortably saved by goalkeeper Tom Parker-Trott.

Lewis Nagle was lively early on, with his devasting runs giving their defence a headache, but his curling efforts didn’t cause the goalkeeper too much trouble.

Scott Hills found himself one on one with the goalkeeper early on after a great ball from Jim Orvis, but Shepard got down well to save it and the follow up shot from Mat Bainbridge was blazed over the bar.

Nagle and Hills both put a handful of crosses into the box early on, but on nearly every occasion the U.S Portsmouth defence dealt with them efficiently and cleared the danger.

A short free-kick given to Orvis created the best chance of the first half, but Callaghan just headed over following pressure from the on-rushing goalkeeper.

U.S Portsmouth’s number nine Lamin Jatta was causing the Stoneham defence problems, but he was forced to drop deep to collect the ball, keeping him away from any goal-scoring opportunities.

AFC Stoneham’s solid defensive shape meant that U.S Portsmouth had to try their luck from long-range on many occasions, not troubling Parker-Trott too much and creating a quiet end to the first half.

HALF TIME: AFC Stoneham 0-0 United Services Portsmouth

Jamie Bulpitt replaced Liam Callaghan at the break, hoping to bring solidity to the midfield and push for the opening goal of the game.

However, the first goal of the game came for the away side five minutes later after confusion between Clarke and Ovington allowed Burroughs to steal in and

slot the ball past Parker-Trott to give Portsmouth a 1-0 lead.

AFC Stoneham thought they had equalised just minutes later but as the ball was fired goal-wards, it hit the hand of a man in purple and the referee was quick to disallow it and give a free-kick to the away side.

But they did indeed level the scoring in the 62nd minute after Mat Bainbridge’s on-target corner was nodded in on the line by centre-back Ben Clarke, kick-starting Stoneham’s comeback.

The persistentPurps were probing again and nearly took the lead shortly after, but Bainbridge’s through ball was blocked by the hand of the last U.S Portsmouth defender, who was a lucky man to escape a red.

AFC Stoneham finally went in front in the 68th minute thanks to substitute Jamie Bulpitt, who’s long-range effort managed to creep its way past the scrambling goalkeeper and into the bottom right-hand corner.

This is where the home side really started to take control of the game and a third only took eight minutes to arrive, after Scott Hills was brought down in the box before he was able to pull the trigger, earning a penalty for his side.

Captain Jim Orvis took the penalty kick and rolled it into the bottom left corner, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and giving his side a two-goal cushion.

Three minutes later, U.S Portsmouth won a penalty for themselves after their captain Cam Quirke was bought down in the box, which was then converted by Sam Emeneyto make the score line 3-2.

In the 90th minute, U.S Portsmouth’s Lamin Jatta looked almost certain to level the scoring after taking the ball around Parker-Trott and having an open goal to tap it into, but he somehow fired the ball wide and let Stoneham off big time, missing the opportunity to level things late on.

Deep into added time, Cian Cleary wrapped up the three points for Stoneham after his clinical effort found the bottom right-hand corner and meant the game ended 4-2 to the Purps.

AFC Stoneham Starting XI: Parker-Trott, Barnes, Dyer, Bainbridge, Ovington, Clarke, Nagle, Orvis (79’), Hills, Clements (66’), Callaghan (45’)

SUBS: Evans (79’), Bulpitt (45’), McNulty, Thomson, Cleary (66’)

United Services Portsmouth Starting XI:Shepard, Aston, McGee, Burns, Emeney, Benjamin, Jibley, Quirke (c), Jatta, Burroughs, Richards.

Subs: Spencer, Grant, Andrews, Mathe, Jewell.

US Portsmouth match preview

AFC Stoneham return to league action following midweek success in the cup as they host

United Services Portsmouth on Saturday 26 th November with a 3pm kick-off.

AFC Stoneham:

Stoneham come into this game off the back of a hard-fought 3-2 victory on Tuesday night

against the 10 men of Brockenhurst.

Once the pitch passed the inspection from the referee, goals from Ockwell, Martins and

Dyer were enough to seal the victory and send Stoneham into the next round of the Wessex

League Cup.

Stoneham currently sit 5 th in the league, with games in hand on those above them, so three

points would help strengthen their position as they try to climb the league table.

However, they will be without Jamie Ovington and top goal scorer Duarte Martins for this

game due to suspension.

United Services of Portsmouth:

U.S Portsmouth were formed in 1962 with the intention of enabling navy players to play

competitive football at the highest level possible.

They gained promotion to the Wessex Premier League in the 2020/21 season and play their

home games at HMS Temeraire under the manager Frazer Quirke.

They currently sit 15 th in the league and come into this after a 5-0 thrashing of bottom of the

league Alresford, with all five goals being scored by different players.

U.S Portsmouth have won 3 of their last 5 matches, with 20 goals being scored across these

games, suggesting that Saturday’s clash might be a high scoring one.

Brockenhurst match report

AFC Stoneham’s dogged display saw them come from behind to beat 10-man Brockenhurst 3-2 and seal their place in the next round of the Wessex League Cup.

A 90th minute deflected free kick from Cade Dyer saved the match from going to penalties and broke Brockenhurst hearts after playing most of the game with 10 men.

It was a competitive start to the game with a flurry of chances for both teams, with the best chance falling to Stoneham striker Martins when the goalkeeper mis-judged the ball and left him with an almost empty net, but his shot was blocked by the desperate defender who spared the goalkeeper’s blushes.

Brockenhurst had a clear corner tactic from early on when they kept crowding keeper Tom Parker-Trott, but the Stoneham defence protected him well and headed away any potential danger.

Liam Callaghan also looked lively and caused the Brockenhurst defence all sorts of problems with his explosive runs and quick feet, which nearly led to a goal when his cross was skewed by the defender, but luckily spun back to the thankful goalkeeper Snelling.

The big talking point happened in the 18th minute when Joe Chamberlain brought down Cian Cleary right on the line of the box as he was one on one with the goalkeeper, resulting in a red card for the Brockenhurst man.

Four minutes later, Stoneham took advantage of the extra man and grabbed the lead after Bainbridge’s deep free kick was headed back across goal by Clarke and put in by centre back George Ockwell.

However, it only took the home side four minutes to respond when a long ball was flicked on by Woods to top-scorer Speechley-Price, who slotted it past Parker-Trott for his 14th goal of the season.

Stoneham were then forced into a change before half-time when Clarke went off injured and was replaced by Jamie Ovington.

HALF TIME- Brockenhurst 1-1 AFC Stoneham

The second half started in the worst possible way for Stoneham after Brockenhurst took the lead straight from kick-off, when a dangerous cross deflected off Ovington and in for an own goal.

Changes were needed for Stoneham as Brockenhurst started to get on top, so they brought on Orvis and Nagle for Bulpitt and Cleary, in the hope that they could be game changers.

A huge mix up at the back for Brockenhurst nearly saw Stoneham draw level when the goalkeeper tried to keep the ball in play but gave it straight to the dangerous Duarte Martins, but Snelling managed to recover and tip the resulting shot past the post.

In the 70th minute Stoneham found their route back into the game after Jim Orvis’s pinpoint free kick met the head of Martins, who nodded it past the keeper for his 22ndgoal in all competitions and level the scoring at 2-2.

The 10 men of Brockenhurst certainly didn’t look disheartened with the equaliser, as they flooded forward looking for a third, which they would have got if it wasn’t for Ovington’s last ditch tackle that stopped the attacker from pulling the trigger.

As the game was drawing to a close, both teams looked tired on a sticky pitch and were searching for that bit of inspiration to find them a goal.

This is exactly what Stoneham got when substitute Lewis Nagle went on a marauding run down the right-hand side, tricking his way past defenders before being fouled as he cut inside.

Up stepped Cade Dyer to take the free kick, who’s strike took a big deflection from the wall and found its way into the corner of the net, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and sending AFC Stoneham into the next round of the cup.

It wasn’t the performance that Stoneham would have wanted but it’s the result that counts, and huge credit to Brockenhurst who battled well with 10 men.

Brockenhurst Starting XI: Snelling, Prescott, Edmonson, Hartness, Chamberlain, Magookin, O’Donnell, Haynes (C), Speechley-Price, Woods, Dennett

Subs: Stacey, Bartram, Pomeroy, Waugh, Taylor

AFC Stoneham Starting XI: Parker-Trott, Barnes (84’), Dyer, Bulpitt (52’), Ockwell, Clarke (42’), Cleary (52’), Bainbridge (C), Martins, Clements (84’), Callaghan

 Subs: McNulty (84’), Orvis (52’), Ovington (42’), Evans (84’), Nagle (52’)

Sunday Nov 20 round up

U7 Tigers

The Tigers had their first game in the League above, and what a game it was end to end goal fest .The whole team played their part and played some good football. We are going in the right direction

MOTM Finn

AFC Stoneham U8 Panthers

Great game under floodlights today for the Stoneham Under 8s Panthers against our U9 opposition.

The Panthers worked hard to close them down and joined up some lovely passes and finding space.

Fraser and Oscar were strong in goal as always. Freddie and Logan were determined in defence and midfield. Jack made some lovely runs and was unlucky not to convert.

Billy and Manny scored hat tricks while Oscar, Hayden and Cooper found the back of the net. The highlight had to be some beautiful play from Hayden through to Jack, assisting Logan for a great goal!

U9 Hurricanes

Hurricanes had a great day despite going into the last quarter behind.

Great fighting spirit and resilience from the whole team, some brilliant team goals were scored playing out from the back!

U9 Panthers

Unlucky today boys. That draw felt like loss to me as the performance deserved the win. I personally thought it was a dominating performance from start to finish. Our passing and link play was brilliant today. And on another day the score could have been double figures. Just didn’t get the rub of the green again!! You all played brilliant but my man of the match went to Ollie, his footwork, passing and strength was outstanding today. Well done Ollie. Well done all of you for your workrate. Special mention to Jenson, Jake, Lucas and Ronnie for their magical moments.

U9 Spitfires

U9 Spitfires played a superb game against Bursledon Stars but had our trademark slow start. The boys grew into the game and scored in each quarter and thoroughly deserved the win. Brody Hibberd was on fire in front of goal and kept the matchball. Some superb finishing from Elliott Finch, Mazen Ismael and Alfie Bungay after a sweeping move.

The boys were a pleasure to watch today and played some amazing football at times.

POM couldn’t be decided by us coaches as all deserved it but in the end went to Jackson Neve after voted for by his younger brother (no favouritism there )

U11 Wolves

U11 Wolves v Baddesley Park

Development football teaches us to be better players! And so it was today as the resilient Wolves learnt how to deal with physicality in a magical second half.

Dylan was exciting down the left in the early stages but overall the Wolves were out-battled in the first half and forced to play too deep.

In the second half the Wolves learnt that the way to play against aggression was not to fear it and to play to their own strengths of skill and pace. This increase in tempo transformed the Wolves! Alfie became a fortress in defence, Muhammed and Harry were dominant on the right, Dylan was still rising to the challenge on the left, Rayane pushed play further forward through the middle making wide forward passes and Wolf of the Week Frankie was incredible in his skill and determination.

Chances were created, the team had come together in adversity and the smiley faces we have become used to seeing at the end of the game will very soon return!

Eleven heroes today! Well done boys.

U11 Jaguars

AFC Stoneham U11 Jaguars vs Colden Common Youth U11 Rangers

Both teams had chances in the 1st quarter but it was Rangers who scored first.

Jags pushed and created openings but just couldn't get the goal they deserved.

The defence stayed organised with Charlie solid as ever at the back.

In the 2nd half the Jags produced some fantastic football, with Sammy picking up the ball and driving up the wing before feeding the ball to Wezi to equalise.

Both keepers were on top form and made great saves before Wezi broke forward to score a second and put the Jags 2-1 up.

The 3rd started well with Egit working hard up front for the team, creating chances and testing the Rangers keeper.

2 quick goals for Rangers would put them back in the lead.

In the 4th the Jags knew they were still in the game but it was Rangers who scored a crucial goal to extend their lead.

Determined, the Jags fought on and pushed for goals, shots from Will, Charlie and Egit just missing the target. Wezi added 1 more goal but it was not to be as the Jags would lose 3-6

Tough game but lots of lessons to be learnt.

Parents player of the week goes to Charlie who worked hard in defence and was instrumental in getting the ball forward to start attacks. (Special mention to Sammy who narrowly missed out on the Parents vote for his efforts on the wing today)

Coachs player of the week goes to Egit who keeps working hard for the team and once again unlucky not to be on the scoresheet.

Jag of the week goes to Louie, great attitude in training and on match days. Even when injured he came along on crutches and supported the team from the sidelines

U11 Spitfires

An excellent team performance today from the U11 Spitfires saw them score 9 goals against Winchester. The boys scored some of their best goals of the season so far with some great passing and movement. The goals came from Freddie who scored 4, Ethan and Charlie who both scored 2 each, and Bushy. The man of the match trophy went to Charlie who scored two great goals, and made some excellent runs and passes.

U12 Panthers

After a cup game last week, it was back to league action today with trip to Arlesford. The Panthers came away with a 6:3 win against Arlesford Town U12 Lions.

The battle of the big cats was an exciting one to watch! The end to end action was brilliant and both teams had to dig deep! The first half saw 2 goals scored by Spencer and 1 by Travis. Panthers conceded their first goal in the 24th minute, taking the half time score to 3:1.

The excitement continued in the 2nd half. A penalty was awarded to the Lions after a player was brought down in the box. Spectators held their breath as the ball hit the cross bar and ricocheted away.

In the 40th minute, Carl took a shot which rebounded off the post. Travis was there to take the rebound and sink it into the net, scoring Stoneham's 4th goal of the game.

Spencer went on to score in the 53rd minute. Just a few minutes later, Tyler led with a great pass to Spencer, crossing to Bobby who scored the Panthers' final goal of the game.

Well done to Travis this week whose effort was outstanding; scoring 2 goals and having a further 3 shots on goal.

True to form, Spencer impressed with another hat trick.

Ben's relentless defending forced the opposition into tricky situations, allowing Stoneham to regain possession on multiple occasions.

Man of the Match was awarded to goal keeper, Fletcher, who covered evey inch of his goal and made save after save. A top bins save from a free kick was a real stand out!

Well done on a deserved win! Bring on next week!

U12 Jaguars

Hythe and Dibden Cobras 3

AFC Stoneham Jaguars 6

The Jaguars responded superbly to a tough result last week to take all the points in a goal-filled encounter.

The Jaguars started brightly, putting the hosts under early pressure though pressing all round the park, and were rewarded with an early lead when Elliot’s corner was flicked in by the foot of a Cobra defender. One goal quickly became two when Elliot pressed the central defender into an error, held him off strongly and finished into the bottom corner. The Jaguars eased further ahead and scored their third when Charlie, who had been on the pitch a matter of seconds, ran onto Elliot’s smart through ball to shoot low past the goalkeeper. Then followed a period of control by the visitors, with the Hythe and Dibden danger players - their two wide players - being kept quiet by our wide forwards, with Owen being particularly industrious.

The final five minutes saw a real drop in levels of defensive application and a return to long ball habits, and the hosts made the most of a Stoneham midfield that had clocked off early for the half to twice pull back byline crosses for two easy tap ins.

To the boys credit, they took on board the half time instructions, and emerged for the second half back to the levels expected of them. Early in the half, Elliot chased down a dinked ball through the middle and forced a mistake from the goalkeeper to put Stoneham 4-2 up. The visitors’ two goal cushion was reinstated five minutes later when Matteo burst through the centre with a well timed run to finish with aplomb. The hosts continued to ask questions of the Jaguars at the back, with the Cobras captain proving a real threat on the right. However, defensively, Stoneham shone in the second half, as they repelled attack after attack. Isaac proved an obdurate barrier in the centre, and either side of him, Jamie and Archie demonstrated an excellent reading of the game with a series of last ditch blocks and covering tackles to snuff out the danger. When the Cobras did manage to shake off the Jaguars’ defensive shackles, they found Finn in magnificent form between the sticks, providing some outstanding saves. Just two minutes from the end, Elliot smashed the ball high into the net to complete his hat trick and ensure the Jaguars wrapped up three well-deserved points with a sixth goal. A great away win for the Jaguars and an equally important lesson learned about never switching off. Up the Jags!

U13 Spitfires

U13 Spitfires played away to Alresford Town today were world class today after a few down weeks. A positive training session on Friday showed on the pitch today as the boys came together and a thoroughly deserved 5-0 win. From the 1st whistle the boys were on it and took the lead through Harley Marjason followed by a 2nd by Ethan Cripps and went in 2-0 at half time.

2nd half was the same with the boys dominating and playing some great football and scoring a 3rd through Ethan Cripps who chased a lost cause to finish past their keeper. Moment of the game then happened from a corner when Harley Marjason scored an overhead kick in the ‘top bins’ which had to be seen to be believed and summed up the boys performance! George Polkinghorne then added a 5th with a left footed half volley into the bottom corner giving the boys the win they thoroughly deserved.

Superb support from all our parents and POM went to the whole team (parents included) for coming together and showing what a great team we have.

Well done Spitfires.

U13 Panthers

Under 13 Panthers didn't play as well as we could today but came away with a slightly lucky 2-0 win.

It was 0-0 at the break and we gave away a penalty that could have put us a goal down but were relieved to see it go wide.

Soon after after a bit of pressure we opened the scoring with a fine finish from Ewan Halliday slotting it in first time from the edge of the box having read a pass played by the opposition keeper.

Some fine saves kept us in the lead and then we managed to score a 2nd from a cross by Ewan that deflected off a defender into the net.

Not too many candidates for Man of the Match today it went to Ewan as he kept trying to make things happen and got his reward with the 2 goals

Brockenhurst match preview

AFC Stoneham will look to bounce back when they travel to Brockenhurst in the next round of the Wessex League Cup on Tuesday 22 nd November.

Brockenhurst:

The Badgers were founded in 1898 and currently play at the Meadens Skoda Arena on Grigg Lane, a venue they moved to in 1951.

The home side come into this game off the back of a 1-0 defeat away to Christchurch in the league on Saturday.

Brockenhurst have entered this round of the cup following a 4-0 thrashing of Bemerton Heath Harlequins all the way back in September.

Their last five games has seen 16 goals so this could suggest a high scoring match, and their top goal scorer Speechley-Price will certainly be looking to add to his goal tally of 13.

AFC Stoneham:

Stoneham also come into this game off the back of a league defeat following a narrow 4-2 loss away to Laverstock & Ford, so the Purps will be hoping to prove that this was just a bump in the road.

The previous round saw them beat Cowes Sports 3-1 thanks to a double from top scorer Martins and one from defender Ovington.

Stoneham are currently 5 th in the league and will want to take recent form into the cup with them, but they know it won’t be an easy task against an attacking Brockenhurst side.

This match-up is hard to predict and could go either way, with their last three meetings all ending in different results.

Last three meetings:

26/03/22 AFC Stoneham 3-2 Brockenhurst (PREM)

25/01/22 AFC Stoneham 1-2 Brockenhurst (RCC)

27/11/21 Brockenhurst 1-1 AFC Stoneham (PREM)

19/11/22 Report : Laverstock 4 AFC Stoneham 2

AFC Stoneham narrowly lost 4-2 away to Laverstock and Ford in a intense affair that saw two red cards.

The nine men of AFC Stoneham showed grit and determination to battle hard but were just edged out in a game that could have gone either way.

Both teams were looking to go long in the opening minutes, but it was AFC Stoneham who were dictating the play and had the majority of possession.

The Laverstock defence dealt well with crosses from Hills and Martins but the best chance early on fell to Bulpitt, who’s storming run through the midfield ended in a long-range effort that just went wide of the post.

However, Laverstock took the lead in the 16th minute when the ball fell kindly to their player following a scramble in the box.

Stoneham quickly regained control and almost drew level shortly after, when Bulpitt’s deflected shot nearly creeped its way in following a short free-kick.

Surging runs from Callaghan were also causing problems for theLaverstock defence, forcing them into challenges to stop him from carving his way through their team.

Just before the 35th minute, the home side doubled their lead after ping-pong in the box and despite blocking a few efforts, the ball found its way out to the right-hand side where it was smashed into the net.

However, it only took three minutes for Stoneham to respond and grab a goal back after Cade Dyer’s deflected free kick ended up in the back of the net and gave the away side something to take into half time.

Half Time: Laverstock& Ford 2-1 AFC Stoneham.

The Purps had a perfect start to the second half when they levelled the scoring one minute in after Martins off-target shot was tapped in by the lively Callaghan.

But the feisty affair finally boiled over in the 50th minute when Ovington saw red following an incident that sparked an outburst of emotion between the two teams.

The next 12 minutes saw Laverstock score two more after exploiting the space and taking advantage of the extra man.

Goalkeeper Tom Parker-Trott then denied them another after a brilliant save from point-blank range, stopping an almost certain goal.

Stoneham then went down to nine men after top goal scorer Martins received a second yellow.

However, the remaining nine showed fantastic attitude and worked tirelessly as a team, defending as a unit and seeing the final 18 minutes through.

Laverstock& Ford Starting XI: Taylor, Fletcher, Wakeford, Bourner (C), Brockway, Matthews, Ward, Lovegrove, Sykes, Roach, Jones

Subs: Roberts, Edgar, Campbell-Smith, Jackson, Roberts.

AFC Stoneham Starting XI:Parker-Trott, Barnes, Dyer, Bulpitt, Ovington, Clarke, Callaghan, Thomson, Martins, Bainbridge (C), Hills.

 Subs: Orvis, Ockwell, Cleary, Clements.

Saturday Round Up

U7 Wolves.

The Wolves welcomed Wyvern today and it was a case of history repeating last week. The match was played in a firm but fair manner, with some excellent tackles and blocks from both sides. We looked in control of midfield for the first 3/4s but a few unlucky moments went against us in both boxes in the last few minutes. All the goalkeepers made good saves, Fyfe, Adam and Harry got forward to take their opportunities well. Jacob and Louie both made some mazy runs out of defense, Ollie, Vinnie and Jack were menaces with their speed and agility and all worked hard to get back to support their team mates. We're really close to getting the results we want in this division; just need to crack that last quarter! We have two MoM awards - Fan's vote went to Adam and Coach's went to Harry today.

U9 Rovers JPL

U9 Rovers came up against Socca FC in our penultimate game of the competition games. The boys controlled the game in the early stages with high pressing but just could not get a goal. Early in the 2nd 3rd our pressure paid off when a mistake led to Harrison finishing into an empty net. The boys continued to control the game and some great skill and a superb strike from Chase gave the boys a deserved 2-0 lead. Opponents hit back in the game from a lofted ball over the top and then a equaliser followed although not deserved. Boys rallied together and pushed for a winner but just could not find that winner although POM Henry Polkinghorne cane closest when he struck the bar. Great effort today and hard on the boys not to come away with the win.

U11 Girls Lionesses

A stuttering start for the U11 Lionesses today, falling 2 goals behind in the first half, a positive pep talk at half time seemed to push the girls on and in the second half took control of the game!

Unfortunately we couldn’t turn possession into goals and the second half saw no more goals for either side.

Huge shout out for Sienna, after establishing herself in the game, she became an immovable object with numerous strong fair tackles and today takes the honour of Managers Player of the Game!

Although conceding 2 goals today, Scarlett played an absolute blinder in between the posts to keep the score respectable!

U11 Girls Panthers

Moneyfields Yellows 4

AFC Stoneham Panthers 1

The Panthers lost their first game of the season with a poor performance on a dreadful pitch.

The first third of the game was quite equal and the Panthers should have been ahead but missed a couple of good chances and hit a post.

They were made to pay for the missed chances as the hosts scored two quick goals to take a 2-0 lead.

Lyra pulled a goal back with a tidy finish after running through the visitors defence to make the score 2-1 at half time.

Despite a lot of possession in the second half, the Panthers couldn’t find an equaliser and were punished late on with 2 goals on the counter attack.

U12 Lionesses

This crazy bunch played table topping Hamble Belles U12s who have yet to be beaten In 5 games in the league .we've also been beaten previously 7-2 & 5-1 And all 11girls where superb winning 3-1 Lola simper grabbed herself a cheeky hat trick ,up the Lionesses..

U15 Knights

U15 Knights won 6-1 away against Clarendon in the U16 Testway League Cup.

Having conceded an early goal the Knights went on to score 2 before half time and 4 after. The goal scorers were Ads, Will x2, Oliver, Brandon and Elliot S (p). Game of two halves again today…. Boys much better in the second half. Despite the opposition and pitch the boys played good football at times, created some good chances and scored a couple of quality goals. MOTM goes to Will. Couple of quality goals at the right times in the game and created a number of good chances for the team. Onto the next round we go. Well done boys. .

U16 Panthers

After a long drive for an early 9:30 KO up at Newbury, The Panthers started the game in the wide awake club and scored with their second attack after great work on the right wing by Harvey Reid who finished the move off slotting past the keeper to the near post. This set the tone for the day with the Panthers dominating possession creating chance after chance and but for some superb goalkeeping from the Woolton Hill keeper would have been four up within the first 15 minutes.

As the game wore on, The Panther began to turn to dominance into goals and great finishes from Fred Young, Ollie Gorniak and another from Harvey saw them lead 4-0 at the interval.

The second half started in a similar way with The Panthers dominating the ball creating more and more chances however Woolton Hill struck against the run of play after a slip on a very muddy pitch allowed them to pull a goal back.

The Panthers responded and within one minute of the restart broke through after some great midfield interchanges and Ollie Gorniak scored his second and very shortly afterwards secured his hat trick after slotting home down the right side of the keeper. George Hunt made it 7 with a jinky run in the box and finished convincingly. Skipper Keiran Wilkins scored a fully deserved 8th goal from a corner rising above everyone in the box to powerfully head home and Rupert Gray scored a ferocious volley from 10 yards out to finish the job and make it 9 goals.

A good day on the road for The Panthers and worth leaving home at 7:30!

AFC Stoneham Pumas v

AFC Stoneham JPL

Hampshire Cup

Today saw us in a derby match, for the Hampshire Cup, against Stoneham Pumas.

A beautiful sunny day with no wind, perfect conditions for this winter match.

We started rather erratically, clearly the stakes of playing a rival club team causing some initial nerves.

We soon settled and the flow returned.

Our midfield were solid throughout and our defence rarely allowed them through to take a shot.

When they did penetrate the defence wall, Holly, in goal, was unphased and caught with ease.

In the first half, Darcey banged in 3 goals in 10 minutes, 1 a superb penalty take. A 4th was then hit home by Aimee just before the half time whistle.

We stayed strong throughout the second half seeing 3 more goals, 1 from Mia, another from Darcey & goal 7 came courtesy of Aimee.

A great performance from the whole team. Well done.

Well done to all of our teams who played on Saturday.

Saturday Preview v Laverstock

AFC Stoneham travel to Laverstock & Ford for their 12th Wessex Premier division game of the season on Saturday 19th November.

 Laverstock& Ford:

The newly promoted side are enjoying a steady start to their first season back in the Premier division since the 2011/12 season after play-off success last year.

They are unbeaten in their last four league games and currently sit 14th in the league, 13 points behind Saturday’s opponents.

However, they crashed out of the Wessex league cup midweek after suffering a 4-0 loss to fellow Premier Division side Shaftesbury, so they will be hoping to find their form again on Saturday.

Laverstock’s top goal scorer Archie Lovegrove will be looking to add to his 8 league goals but will face one of the best defences in the league with AFC Stoneham only conceding 9 league goals this season.

 AFC Stoneham:

AFC Stoneham come into this game unbeaten in seven Premier Division matches and currently sit 4th in the table with games in hand on those above them.

Their most recent game came in the Russell Cotes Cup on Tuesday where they won 4-1 at home to Fleet town, securing their place in the next round.

Goals from Hills, Evan, Callaghan, and Martins helped the Purps seal the victory, which included an impressive display from 16-year-old Joel McNulty on his first start for the team.

In the league, AFC Stoneham are the fifth highest scorers netting 27 goals, with a third of them coming from forward Duarte Martins.

A victory could see the Purps climb into third place and leapfrog Horndean after playing the same number of games, whilst still having matches in hand on the top two teams.

 Last two meetings:

30/03/2019 Laverstock& Ford 2-5 AFC Stoneham (Division 1)

26/03/2019 AFC Stoneham 3-0 Laverstock& Ford (Division 1)

U7 Panthers

Panthers U7 Report

Great game today boys.

The passing in the last 2qtrs was excellent and the boys battled so well.

Jacob again was excellent in goal with some brave diving.

Morgan and Caleb was superb at the back defending and tackling when needed.

Evan and Harley was brilliant in midfield up and down with some great shooting with both Harley and Evan having 2 magical moments each.

Matthew lead the line well with some importing tackles and also grabbing himself 2 magic moments. But my man of the match went to Seth, his strength, energy and passing today was excellent and also managed to get himself a magical moment. Well done Seth. Well done all of you today.

AFC Stoneham Panthers U8 v AFC Totton U9

We started todays game with a respectful minutes silence. Overall a challenging game against Totten U9s. They were strong and physical. Today, our players were moved positionally with the idea of enhancing their development. This meant that players played in positions that weren't preferred or may come more naturally to them. By the start of Q4 we were level pegging however we struggled to retain that in the last quarter. Today's goals came from Billy and Cooper (penalty). Player of the Match went to Freddie for listening to instructions and getting on with the game and the positions he was allocated.

U8 Jaguars

Another great performance from the boys for U8 jaguars today. A good Wyvern team.

Jio, Preston and Freddie were our goal scorers.

Always hard to pick a player of the day as they all did really well, but today it went to Jio. He played in defense, midfield and up front over the course of the match, doing well in all of them.

Go Jaguars!

U9 Panthers

Panthers U9 Report

Unlucky today boys. Result could have gone either way. The boys battled as a team and never gave up. The passing and movement was great to watch, and they worked together as a team. Just didn’t go our way in the final 3rd and their keeper pulled off some incredible saves to keep them in front. Man of the match went to Oliver. His tackling and energy was great and never stopped running. Well done Oliver, well done all of you for not giving up.

U11 Wolves

U11 Wolves v Wyvern Saints 13/11/2022

This was one of those"blood, sweat and tears on a heavy pitch" games, but it produced many learning points for the boys and everyone went away very happy!

The Wolves are now stronger thinkers! Attackers were shooting straight at their goalkeeper until better decision making produced more placed shots with much better results, central midfielders with options to play the ball wide, pass forwards or go it alone are learning from having to make those decisions, and full backs Jude and Dylan always chose their moments well to support an attack.

Wolf of the Week Muhammed played in four different positions today. He was faultless in defence, supportive in both wide midfield positions and also effective in attack.

Special mentions also to Anderson for his distribution, Dash and Evan for their determination, Frankie for his amazing work rate, Alfie for his intelligent play in central defence and also to Rayane and Adam who were both unwell but showed great resolve in playing through to the end.

U11 Spitfires

A convincing scoreline today for the Under 11 Spitfires against an Andover side who should be commended for some of the football they played, and continued to play despite losing. The first goal for Stoneham came from a great finish by Ethan, who scored a second in the last quarter. Goals also came from Zach, Charlie x2, Bushy , and an og. James (MoM) delivered a captain style performance with some great tackles, passing out from the back and his leadership.

U11 Jaguars

Eastleigh in the community FC v AFC Stoneham U11 Jaguars

Before kick-off all players and managers observed a minutes silence and paid their respects on a sunny remembrance Sunday.

Both teams had chances in the 1st quarter, Jags keeper Riley making some great blocks.

The Jags took the lead thanks to a free kick launched forward from Charlie enabling Wezi to run through and score.

The 2nd quarter saw an early goal from Eastleigh to level the scores.

The Jags continued to press with a shot from Egit and brilliant play from wingers Sammy and Will.

Keeper Riley came up with yet more important saves to ensure the quarter finished 1-1.

In the 3rd Quarter the game swung Eastleighs way as they added 2 more goals.

Chances came and went for the Jags, the Eastleigh keeper making great saves to deny Egit on multiple occasions.

A through ball from Jacob would set up a second goal for Wezi to pull 1 goal back.

The final quarter saw 6 goals as the game went away from the Jags.

Wezi added a 3rd and 4th to his tally but it wasn't enough as the Jags lost 6-4.

Parents player of the week goes to Riley who once again made some great saves, quick off his line and distributed the ball well.

Coachs player of the week this week is Wezi who was always a threat upfront and scoring 4 great goals

U7 Hurricanes

Great game today for the team brilliant battling through out, with some great passing and tackling on display, Lots of opportunities through out for the boys, overall a really good game, the boys all played superb. Parents player & Man of the match both went to Leo, who displayed great workrate, energy, tackling & footwork.

U7 Wolves

The Wolves came into today's match as relative underdogs against a very strong Wellow Youth side. Both sides observed two minutes silence with great respect. I was so impressed with the belief, bravery, energy and quality with and without the ball the lads showed today. Jacob and Louie were super disciplined defensively, but also showed their ability to take the opposition on and support the team going forward. Jack and Fyfe both covered the pitch end to end and really help us transition to attack whenever we won the ball. Ollie and Vinnie were a nightmare to defend against, twisting and turning and getting shots off. The game was extremely close for the most part with some great moments for Ollie, Louie and Jack (who has been practicing his golf swing!). We had the upper hand for much of the match but in the end the difference between the sides came down to energy levels and Wellow took the game away from us, but that doesn't in anyway dampen how absolutely proud the Wolves should be of themselves for that performance. Fan's MoM went to Louie, he put in a bulldozing shift and epitomised the whole team's display.

AFC STONEHAM TIGERS U7'S

The boys played well today against a good organised side, didn't get the result but can't fault their effort .It's good to see them developing. MOTM Theo

U9 Rovers

U9 Rovers were involved in an entertaining end to end game against Pompey In The Community.

After a impeccable minute silence observed by both teams the game started in a high tempo which continued until the final whistle. Some great goals scored by both teams and some amazing goalkeeping by David Trowbridge for the Rovers. Henry Hall struck a worldie for the Rovers and Jake Davies tapped in from close range but unfortunately was not enough today.

So proud of these boys and every week they put in so much effort and play like they have been together for years when in fact they are players from across 4 of our teams at this age.

POM went to Harry Kalogerias who was excellent in defence and so calm on the ball.

Well done boys.

U10 Pumas

The girls were excited for today, first time on a new pitch. The improvements over the last few weeks and the fact they were playing another newly formed team, along with the fact they had the first opportunity to play the pitch set them off on the right foot from the start. Seen in straight after the 1 min silence so well observed by teams and fans:

Skylilly in goal didn't have a lot to do, but had safe hands when called upon

Emily, lottie and Sarah in defence were strong and kept out the Grange Down attack and helped move us forward

Naya decided to play like messi from the centre of midfield

Mia and zoe were powerhouses left and right, with Zoe picking up her first 2 goals.

Daisy was strong as a forward for her goal and Ella came on and showed fantastic positional play and was unlucky not to walk away with 2

The girls tired at the end, and despite a late goal held for a 3-1 win. Their first as a team, and the first on the new Stoneham pitch. Amazing pumas!

U11 Lionesses

An amazing performance today saw the U11 Lionesses take a well earned victory today, we could be in need of some new socks as the girls worked tirelessly for each other and im sure burnt holes in them

It takes us to 3 wins from 3 games and I for one could not be any prouder of the effort and commitment they showed today as a team.

Sophia with a great goal to take the lead and Florence to confirm the victory with her first goal of the season.

Big shout out for April who received Managers Player of the Game for yet another fantastic performance!

AFC Stoneham Girls Panthers U11 4-1 Petersfield Town Whirlwinds

Playing a team unbeaten from the division below with no substitutes was always going to be difficult but the Panthers got off to the perfect start when Jess P opened the scoring in the first few minutes.

The game was end to end with Ilyse and Emily both making last ditch tackles before Lyra gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Petersfield pulled a goal back after a long range shot came back off the crossbar and was brilliantly put into the top corner by Georgia. Unfortunately at the wrong end!

Both Abigail and the opposition keeper made saves before half time and the score remained 2-1.

After the break, it became a bit of a midfield battle with Georgia, Jess P, Aimee and Lyra all working hard. Victoria dropped back into defence to help stop the opposition attacking quickly on the break.

Jess H gave the Panthers a bit of breathing space by making the score 3-1 before a run and cross by Lyra was touched home for an own goal and 4-1.

They held us for first 10-15 minutes, but then some fantastic one touch passing split the Romsey defence.

Great team effort from the whole team. Some great debut appearances from new girls. Man of the match going to new signing Phoebe Rogers. With no regular keeper we had 2 great shifts in goal from Hannah and Katie.

Goals from Katie Babahami, a sweet header from a corner from Victoria Johnson, 2 goals Mia Garwin, 2 from Hannah Webb

Well done on some great performances !

AFC Stoneham v Bournemouth Poppies

AFC Stoneham vs Bournemouth Match Report: -

A late second half goal once again scored by Duarte Martins was enough to give Stoneham the three points and secure the win on Tuesday night. A resourceful Stoneham battled hard on Tuesday night against a difficult Bournemouth side, but their patience was well worth the wait as once again Duarte Martins was the hero and won the game for his side. One change was made as Adam Pattison comes in for Cade Dyer who picked up an injury in Saturdays game.

Stoneham kick off the first half at Clayfields (Hythe & Dibden), and start off on the right foot when Nathan Clements finds himself in space on the edge of the box, he shoots but the keeper gets down and saves. Another chance comes to rise when Lewis Nagle plays the ball in from the left-hand side, it meets Duarte Martins who finds himself in space he shoots but the keeper saves. Stoneham are playing brightly and deservedly should be in front but Bournemouth are proving to be difficult as they are defending us very well. In the 36th minute a ball is played through to Duarte Martins, he gets the slightest of touches but it's not enough and goes wide. Just before half time Stoneham have the chance to go in front when Ryan Penny wins us a free kick on the edge of the box, Jamie Ovington takes, he shoots but it takes a deflection on the way and it goes well over the crossbar. Duarte Martins wins us another foul 30 yards out, Jim Orvis takes Martins meets but the keeper saves.

Stoneham are fighting hard against a solid defence and should of put away our chances, but they go in at the break level with Bournemouth.

HALF TIME: - AFC Stoneham 0-0 Bournemouth

Second half gets underway curtesy of Bournemouth, Stoneham continue to fight to find the winning goal. 14 minutes we have our first threatening chance of the second half when Lewis Nagle from the right-hand side plays the ball into the box Duarte Martins meets and heads it but it goes over the crossbar out for a goal kick. Another chance sees once a again Lewis Nagle power through defence, plays a ball across the box towards Duarte Martins, he narrowly misses and goes out of play. In the 63rd minute Stoneham make their first change of the game when Nathan Clements comes off and Scott Hills takes his place. Scott Hills has his first chance in the game, which could have ended up with a goal, the ball gets played into the box Jim Orvis heads it down to Hills he shoots but he slices the ball and it goes wide.

The pressure and determination paid off for Stoneham as in the 72nd they finally got the goal they deserved. Jim Orvis beats the defender on the right-hand side and goes through on goal, he plays the ball across to Duarte Martins who finds himself in space, with his first touch he half volleys it into the back of the net and scores his 15th goal of the season so far. Just after the goal Stoneham make their second substitution of the evening which sees Ryan Penny come off due to injury and Isaac Evans come on. Duarte Martins has the chance to make it 2-0 when the ball is played through to him, he shoots but his shot is right at the goalkeeper. 86th minute sees Lewis Nagle come off and Jamie Bulpitt come on. However, in the 88th minute we do have the ball in the back of the net curtesy of Scott Hills but the flag goes up for offside and it disallowed by the referee.  A great and well fought performance by Stoneham sees them come away with the 3pts against a solid Bournemouth side.

U8-U11 Weekend round up

U8-U11 Weekend round up

U8 Jaguars

U8 Jaguars played in an exciting 4 - 4 draw conceding a last minute free kick !! Romsey were quick out of the blocks scoring three without reply only for Jaguars to show great character scoring four consecutive goals. Great game all-round played in a great spirit..

James Cooper , Olly Joe Small, Freddie Nichols and Preston Brooks all hit the "onion bag".

U8 Hurricanes

Great game against Hedge End Rangers Hawks.

It was end to end stuff from the first whistle to the last.

The game ended as a very high scoring score , great effort from the Hurricanes, who after a couple of questionable decisions came back being down to take the draw.

Both teams deserve great respect! Absolute scenes Geoff.

U8 Panthers

U8 Panthers v U9 Littleton Junior Cyclones

Tough game for the U8 Panthers today. The boys worked their socks off but couldn't quite make a come back. The physicality of our opponents were a little too much for us today yet the Panther U8 boys stayed strong and never gave up right till the final whistle. There was some great positional play and there could have been more goals. Despite the result it was a great game to watch! A hat trick came from Manny with a two great assists from Hayden and Jack and another goal from Cooper. Player of the Match went to Fraser for huge effort in goal and making some great saves.

U9 Panthers

Unlucky today boys.

Thought you played well in spells. There was some good passing out there today, getting into space and moving around , putting our training into practice. We started brightly but then I thought the urgency, tackling, closing down went and looked like we were just going through the motions. It wasn’t until the last quarter, when we woke up and had a go, and nearly snatched it at the end. Special mention to Jenson with his 5 magical moments. But my Man of the Match went to Jake. His overall workrate, continued running and getting stuck in was a outstanding today. Well done Jake, well done all of you for not giving up.

U9 Spitfires

U9 Spitfires were involved in a good game with Wyvern Saints with some superb football played by the Spitfires throughout. Some great passing all over the pitch with the boys trying the right things and on another day would have been on the right end of the score line. Alfie Bungay scored our solitary and POM went to Hector Hobbs who was solid in goal and kept us in the game with some great goalkeeping.

Really pleased with the boys efforts today.

U11 Spitfires

A great team spirit saw AFC Stoneham Spitfires U11s win 6-3 against Hamble this afternoon. The boys played some great football and battled for every ball. Freds got the scoring started with a header, closely followed by a great long range effort from Alfie. Hamble pulled one back with a great strike before Bushy restored the two goal lead with a brilliant left foot strike into the corner. Freds scored his second of the game , cooly slotting home from the penalty spot after being taken down. Bushy then scored a wonderful free kick which resulted in a team celebration of ‘let’s go bushy, let’s go’ . Ethan finally got the goal he deserved after relentlessly pressing the Hamble defence all afternoon, sprinting on to a great through ball to face a one on one with the keeper. The boys really played for each other with man of the match being a tough decision, however, Alfie B battled his heart out in midfield and was awarded the trophy. Well done boys.

U11 Wolves v U11 Pumas

Another tremendous day out for the Wolves! Plenty of goals and another clean sheet - that's three in a row now - with Harrison reading the game well from Centre Back but it was Dominik who pulled off two outstanding saves in the final quarter to make it no goals against from our last 3 hours of play.

Adam was awarded Wolf of the Week by junior coach Tom for his improved defending and positioning, and also for his four shots to the back of the net.

Fuku ran the midfield today while there were more good performances from all of the other Wolf superstars.

Well done to everyone !!

U12-U18 Weekend round up

U12 Panthers

AFC Stoneham U12 Panthers vJAM FC at Redbridge Community School

The Panthers set the pace of the game, applying early pressure to the opposition. Within the first 6 minutes, spencer winter and Finn Ashton each had a shot on goal- 1 high and the other wide.

In an exhilarating 10th minute spencer winter took a shot, which rebounded off the post. Oliver haveri positioned perfectly to take the rebound, sent it sailing into net, scoring the first goal of the game.

Whilst unsuccessful, a further 4 shots at goal were taken by Bobby Bennett Oliver Haveri and Spencer Winter in the first half. The Panthers' hard work paid off when Spencer Winter made an impressive cross to Oliver Haveri who scored in the 30th minute, right on the stroke of half time.

Returning to the pitch with a fire in their belly, JAM FC were the first to score after half time, in the 36th minute.

Soaking up pressure, the Panthers' defense showed what they could do when Bobby Bennett and Finn Ashton outskilled the opposition to clear the ball from a dangerous goal mouth scramble. This was followed up moments later by James Wrycraft whose brilliant defense created an opportunity for Stoneham. Oliver Haveri took a shot, unfortunately going wide.

Proving themselves a worthy opponent, JAM FC scored in the final minute of the game, leveling the score to 2 all.

Tensions ran high throughout and both teams' passion for the game was evident. Each week, the Panthers are showing incredible resilience and team work on the pitch. Their effort throughout the game was one to be proud of! Well done, Panthers!

MEN OF THE MATCH

Oliver Haveri & Tyler Callaway

U12 Jaguars

Winchester City Red U12 v AFC Stoneham Jaguars U12

In blustery conditions and on a small pitch, the Jaguars battled gamely against a resolute home team before succumbing to a 3-0 defeat. The Jags started the brighter of the two, and created one or two good openings, with Archie and Freddie working well in tandem down the left. Elliot saw a free kick whistle narrowly wide, and Jamie and Matteo were busy in midfield. The hosts scored their first following a melee in the box which eventually fell kindly for the Winchester striker to slot under Finn. 1-0 quickly became 2-0 when the hosts made the most of a long ball. The Jaguars continued to fight, but couldn’t quite find their rhythm and play the sort of football we have become accustomed to. Another long ball created the third goal, and despite working the ball into some good positions during the remainder of the game, with John performing well out wide, the Jags couldn’t quite find the final ball to score the goal that their efforts deserved. The scoreline doesn’t quite reflect the closely matched nature of the two teams, and we look forward to reversing the result when we entertain Winchester later in the season. Up the Jags!

U13 Spitfires

U13 Spitfires played home to BTC Puma’s in a physical contest and came out deserved 2-1 winners and thoroughly earned the win. Played football the right way and kept their heads on the game. We took the lead from Zach Marshman who followed up an Ethan Cripps shot to finish from close range only to concede almost immediately. The game went a bit stale until Zach Marshman (our defender) fired in a winner with 3 minutes remaining. Boys came together and fought until the end to see the Sun over the line. Proud how the boys conducted themselves in a tough game. Well done boys.

U14 Panthers

Hampshire Cup - 1st round

AFC Stoneham Panthers 5

AFC Hiltingbury Youth Hawks 0

Another good game from the boys and another clean sheet.

We took the lead within the first 2 mins with a nice cross from Will towards the back post and Arron was there to connect with a lofted header to the far corner. Jacob got the 2nd on 25 mins picking up a loose ball after pressure from Olu on the goalie. Fantastic 3rd goal after Olu received a pass with his back to goal and played it wide on the right to Jude to cross and Olu was there to make it 3-0.

In the 2nd half we made it 4-0 after another great move that was started with Tobi playing out from the back through to Frankie down the right who crossed for Olu to score his 2nd.

Jacob got his 2nd to make it 5-0 with 7 mins remaining, slotting home after a fierce shot from outside the box from George rattled the cross bar.

U16 Spitfires

U16 Spitfires played home to Southside Royals in a frustrating game and were on the wrong end of a 8-2 score line. I have to the score flatters our opponents as we controlled the game for large parts but just lacked that killer instinct in the final third and got undone by the ‘long ball’ on too many occasions today. Tom Wilson scored his 1st goal for the team today firing home from inside the box with Samuel Lawrie getting our other goal. POM went to Kai Arme who had a good game at right back which is not his normal position and really got stuck in plus was calm in position.

U18 Athletic

A comfortable 5-1 victory v Thatcham in the Hampshire Cup

Goalscorers were Chalie Shaw, Aidan Farndell, Danny Wise, Leo and Luke Pothas.

U18 Panthers

Game day 4 in the league and U18 Panthers carried on where they left off from last week with a convincing 5-2 win at home against Littleton.

With 5 different goal scorers Ollie, Alessio, Logan, Jacob and with josh scoring the best goal of the game shooting from 25yards which lobbed the keeper, Panthers carried on their good momentum. With some good footballing being played but also showing they can stick together and battle against a physical side.

A clearly united free-scoring squad bodes well for this season. Well done boys!

Another excellent weekend of football!

Well done

AFC Stoneham 4 Blackfield and Langley 0

Matchday delight as Duarte Martins nets his second hattrick of the season and earns his side the three points. A Martins hattrick and Scott Hills penalty earned The Purps the win against bottom in the league Blackfield & Langley on Saturday afternoon.

Stoneham made a second trip of the week to Hythe & Dibden to play their home league fixture against Blackfield & Langley on Saturday, a win for Stoneham would push them to 6th in the league 7 points from top of the league Bemerton Heath however a win for Blackfield would help boost their season and move them bottom of the table.

Stoneham kick off the game and start brightly, and 4 minutes in they record their first attempt at goal when from a corner: which is taken short to Ryan Penny who shoots but it hits the crossbar Ben Clarke gets onto the rebounded ball and shoots himself but goes into the side netting. With the pressure piling on Stoneham were creating more and more chances and arguments could be heard on the pitch from the opposition. Another great chance was made by The Purps when Jim Orvis whips in a great ball into the box Duarte Martins meets but his shot is wide. 17 minutes Stoneham are forced into an early substitution due to an injury with Cade Dyer, off comes Dyer and Adam Pattison makes his way onto the pitch.

The pressure finally paid off as in the 27th minute Stoneham went in front; Duarte Martins finds himself in space and from the edge of the box he shoots and hits it into the left-hand corner of the goal 1-0. A few minutes later it could have been 2-0 and what a goal it would have been, when Jamie Ovington wins the ball and shoots from just in the halfway line, the ball dips but not enough and goes over the crossbar. Just before halfway Stoneham go in front again when the ball is played to Martins, he goes one on one with keeper and he calmly slots it into the back of the net 2-0.

Stoneham started on the front foot in the first half and deserved to be going into the break leading after an overall great performance.

HALF TIME: - AFC Stoneham 2-0 Blackfield & Langley

Blackfield & Langley kick off the second half, but the same for Stoneham as the continue their attack and within 3 minutes register their first attempt for the second half of the game. Stoneham win a free kick in their own half, its take by Jamie Ovington, the ball is played over the top Duarte Martins brings it down on goes forward on goal but he pushed down by the defender shouts for penalty are heard but the referee waves them away and it’s a goal kick.

Duarte Martins is looking to secure his hattrick in the second half, and nearly goes about doing it in the 59th minute when a great ball is played over the top to him, he meets with his head but it’s just over the crossbar. Our second substitution is made a minute later when Nathan Clements comes off and we see Liam Callaghan come on. Another attempt sees Jim Orvis play a through ball to Duarte who wrestles through the line of defenders and he manages to get a shot away but it goes wide of the goal. Bad news of injury front as just being put on 8 minutes later Callaghan makes way due to an injury and in comes Scott Hills to take his place. Another attempt is made to further the score line this time by someone different, Stoneham win a free kick 25 yards out Jim Orvis takes, it rebounds out and Ryan Penny meets he shoots but his shot is just over the crossbar.

It didn’t take long but in the 74th minute Stoneham got their 3rd curtesy of Duarte Martins who secures his hattrick. Jim Orvis plays the play ball from the right-hand side into the box, Duarte gets away from his defender and slots the ball around the keeper who came off his line 3-0. With just 8 minutes to go we make a double substitution, we see George Ockwell and Isaac Evans come on and Jim Orvis and Ben Clarke come off. Going into stoppage time Stoneham win a penalty after a foul was committed on Lewis Nagle. Scott Hills comes up to take it, he shoots, his shot is saved but the ball goes under the keeper and over the line referee blows and points to the centre circle 4-0. Overall is what a great performance by Stoneham and fully deserved to win.
